The guys running 4-500 hp in the us are using gt30 and 40 r's. They claim to drive them every day, but I doubt it.
Also to get 400hp from a 1.8T, you've got to be running 300lbft at 7000rpm. This equates to 18psi of boost at 7krpm at 100% volumetric efficiency. You'll be lucky to better 85% VE at high revs on a heavily boosted engine. so you'll need to run 24psi of boost at 85% VE at 7K rpm to achieve it. I'm achieving low to mid 70's% VE on my IHI'd 1.8T at 7Krpm.
At 6.5k rpm I'm achieving 80% VE at 21psi on a small port head, whilst rich is achieving 85% VE on a big port head with lower boost (18psi). The big port head is helping a bit, but as boost goes up, VE goes down. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif
To achieve 500hp, you'll need to maintain 21psi boost at 8000rpm, at 100%VE. This aint happening.
The head doesn't like 8000rpm without solid lifters, single piece valves, and you're never going to achieve 100%VE. Fairy stories!

I'm sure mine is still at 20psi at 7000rpm.
A lot of the cars in the US are running BIG boost. Talking 30psi!!!
Jabba themselves say that they can get upto 650bhp from the 1.8T, although I'm not sure exactly how much of the original engine would be left. Also, note that this is on their sales sheet but AFAIK its not been done yet, so its just a claim/estimate.
What IHI did Bills 400+bhp Golf run?

Mine holds 21psi to 7300rpm.
Its odd, but the ex jabba golf with a suposed 400hp (391 was the highest figure I ever saw quoted)never performed as well as it did with the 370 they claimed back in PVW 2 years ago. The figures PVW got on it are remarkebly similar to those I can achieve in my 320HP car (odd that as it's the same turbo maxed out). It also never performed like a 400hp, 1250kg car should. To give you an idea a 320hp/tonne car should hit the ton in around 10.5 seconds if its fwd and achieving a 5.5 sec 60. I never saw it better the 11.9.
I believe it ran the same turbo that you have at the end. ie ihivf34 with p20 housing. It's had some head work though and was a 1.9l /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif
