££££ trip to the dealers even though under warranty!

    My Mrs has an 2008 2.0T A3 S-line bought from Audi back in July. Been absolutely spot on until friday when the plastic trim on the drivers side door handle fell off somewhere. Anyway although it didnt effect the opening of the door it looked pretty rubbish so she phoned Audi to ask for a replacement. As its classed as bodywork its not under covered by the warranty and she nearly fell of her chair when the said £140. Its a bit of plastic 4 inches by 1 inch ffs!

    Then on friday night the boot open flashed on the DIS even though it wasnt. Reclosed it and it stopped flashing so thought nothing of it. Over the weekend there was no issues until the same thing happened twice on monday morning. When she got home last night after an hour or so of being home the alarm started to beep. Went out and re-armed it, all fixed, until 10pm, 12.30am and 2.30am!!!!!

    Was getting very grumpy now so we had no option but to leave the car unlocked till this morning

    Anyway she went to the dealer to get the door handle fixed and asked them if they could have a look at the boot aswell which luckily they could. Found out the washer pipe had corroded leaking fluid onto the sensor making it think it was unlocked therefore tripping the alarm. They said as not parts were broken the warranty didnt cover it so that'll be £350 please!!!

    Needless to say the wife is v grumpy that shes had to shell out £500 this morning lol. Oh and what with the £517 spent on 4 new tyres ordered on sunday, its been an expensive 2 days!

    Thats a bummer, should of asked us on here 1st mate, I could of sorted both probably, if in a location I'm around, for cheaper than £500, damn, but I'm curious, which door trim has come of, any pics?

    What did they do for £350 and what do they mean no parts were broken ? It's a very common fault and has been discussed on here dozens of times and the only answer is to replace the rear wiper motor.

    If they haven't done that then it is likely to happen again !

    The part has failed causing problems with the elsewhere. What kind of warranty is the Audi offer???
    If they charged £350, was this purely labour or were parts charged for. If new parts were charged then why change them? Obviously he old ones have failled..uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh I hate the BS dealer spew out....

    Yes i think they replace the motor, boot lock and jet. As it wasn't broken, just the wiper motor leaking washer fluid into the boot switch, thats why warrenty didnt cover it from what the mrs tells me.

    I do have a picture of the door handle which i'll also post up later

    TBH i didnt think to ask on here, it all happened so quickly and the dealer could fix it there and then i guess we paid the price.

    Just found out for the door handle, to supply, fit and paint the handle inc labour and VAT it was £131.27 and to supply, fit and test the new boot lock, motors and jets was £364.73

    Bargain!!!! :-(

    Sorry to say but you have been done mate ! If the wiper motor was leaking then it IS broken because it cannot be fixed. They replaced it because they know the problem.

    Boot lock did not need replacing and the jet just pulls off and fits the new motor.

    Go back and argue that the replacement work is under warranty and leave them in no doubt that you will contact Audi UK if they do not refund the cost.

    Can't comment about the door handle though.

    scrap yard a few quid and a rattle can 20 quid all in.

    The plastic cover trim costs £18 inc VAT so now you know how much for spraying and labour !

    Thats real bizarre that as my last S3 had exactly the same and the panel was replaced the 2nd time around after it had worked loose again as they are only held in by little plastic tabs. They didnt quibble at all and got on with changing it.

    The door handle plate is held in by a sliding metal part tbh mate, but yes it sits on plastic lugs iirc, then the metal part locks it there, basically the metal part needs manipulating to make it a tighter fit, presto :)

    Thansk again guys, not bothered about the door handle so much but i am going to ring the service manager tomorrow about the motor. The invoice i have states

    "Check and report on alarm going off and boot warning light on, remove boot trim and found rear wiper motor leaking washer fluid into boot switch. Supp and fit new rear wiper motor and boot switch and clean all electrical contact and test - all OK"

    So it cant be clearer that the motor is faulty and this is an internal mechanical part right?. Had a look in my warrenty booklet about whats not covered relating to this is and as close as i can get is "wiper blades and arms" and "coolant pipes and hoses"

    Don't stand for any nonsense - the rear wiper motor has failed and needed to be replaced. Boot switch would have been ok with a splash of WD40 and the washer jet is transferable.

    I know because I did the same exercise on mine two years ago !

    As stated before, a very common fault on these cars.

    If it had been within the first 3 years then pretty much everything is covered.

    The problem with these `AUDI Extended Warranties` is that the level of cover is not the same as the manufacturers and has bodywork, interior and some electrical exclusions. Hence the bill....

    This is why I didnt extend the warranty on my last S3.

    TBH the lock could of been damaged, if they tried cleaning of any water ingress & corrosion & it still failed, then yes they would replace the lock, considering whats involved & the dealer hourly rates, it would be acceptable imho, but of course as I said I could of done cheaper, BUTTTT, then again I dont have a several million pound dealership & employees to support, so in this light, its a cost you accepted & paid, so cant really complain about it now really.

    Great news, after a chat with the service manager yesterday, the cheques in the post to cover the cost yay!

    Tbh i've had a few issues sorted over the years through the approved warranty and never had a problem. The car is awaiting a new S-Tronic gearbox thats currently on back order due to a few odd noises coming from it. All approved even though the car drives fine.
    I can see why the door handle wasnt covered but no reason why they originally didn't cover wiper motor.
    At least it's all sorted out now but you shouldn't had the hassle to start with!
