Take the door card off, and have a check. Check the wires that run in the door shut rubber boot as well. You often get other faults ie: the mirrors, airbag light, or the windows not working......

Check the drivers door loom. You get breaks in the wires in the door shuts.

The discs are availble however you will need a hardlock and password and to get it working in the future.

I think you need to take it to a dealer or a good independant VW/Audi Garage, for them to look over it.

You will get engine fumes from split crankcase breathers etc. These may be drawn into the heater box via the heaterbox air intake which is in the bulkhead. The pollen filter may help to trap some of the soot but not the fumes. You suggest the fault is less when you select recirc?

Are all the bulkhead seals in place? If the long seal strip that seals the heater intake battery area is missing or badly fitted, engine fumes may enter the heater box. You may have a split hose in the engine bay that may be not helping?

They are cheaper/better quality genuine Audi. Dependant on the car you have the discs are around £38/£50 ea, pads are £45/50. A vin number is ideal for an exact price.

The alternator pulley is a common problem, changing loads at the moment. Often mis-diagnosed. The pulley cost £55, less than 1 hour work to change. You need a special tool to remove the free hub pulley.
