The turbo recently went on my 2001 a3 1.8T Quattro and i wanted to know if anybody could tell me the type of turbo that it is and what its called. I am aware that this turbo is different to the non-quattro version. Also if I was finding it difficult to get hold of one are there any other turbos...

I don't think it was an AGU head but one from the a4 equivalent, and if the rings got pinchedd or anything when the valvess hit they may have already been weak. The gearbox won't be replaced, just the bottom end and head... so will the 4x4 gearbox just bolt on identically to the AGU engine?

What about the gearbox and anything to do wih the 4X4... will this all just bolt on? Apparently the head that i put on was a higher compression one than the one i should have put on probably leading to the damamge, so it would mean buying another head and doing everything again. I think it would...

Well im not entirely sure that the belt has slipped, although the garage did say that at least six valves were bent, Im not sure that they could have done a compression test with the engine not turning over and they only charged my an hours labour for diagnosis. I can see that the inlet manifold...

I was travelling at about 60mph. Gonna take the head off this weekend after i can confirm that the timing marks are not alligned and I can get this stupid timing belt cover off >:(

I would'nt really describe it as a 'tick' too be honest, like i said, the only thing it sounds like to me is a cricket, lasting about half a second and happening once a second. Yeah, i did have my suspicions about the injectors. I have also noticed that if the car is run for a while and has properly warmed up throughout the noise does seem to quieten a bit, not sure if this helps?
