The engine EPC light seems to be coming on intermittently once the car has been running for a short while. Once the car has been turned off and then back on it all comes up 'ok'. Anyone had similar/same snag?

Hi folks, I've not long had my A4 but sometimes when I pull up to a stop I get a burning smell (like hot oil) in the car. There is no smell when travelling along and not all the time when stationary. Any other people had similar/same experience?. I've looked for obvious leaks but found none...
