Hello everyone! Hope your all well.

I haven’t posted anything on A-S.net for a while now despite visiting the forums everyday. Reason being is that my A3 has been ‘sleeping’, so to speak. It’s had its fair share of problems and I decided to put it in the drive until I can get money together to slowly but surely resolve the issues so I can fall in love with it again. So basically i've had no real input to make. As the saying goes, if you've got nothing good to say, don't say anything at all!

Anyway, to the point! I read the good reviews and feedback regarding Stafford Audi and despite the fact that it’s a 3hour+ drive up there, I decided to get in contact with Steve via eBay (very nice chap) to book it in for a Cambelt & Waterpump change (A3 is at 78k).

So the journey began!

Situated in South Croydon, I departed at 10:30am and made my way to Stafford. Before doing so, on an empty tank, I filled up with £30 of Shell V-Power @ £1.12p and that gave me 420miles. It was a very very very long drive lol. Very boring too especially if your on your own so take someone with you! The mrs was working as was everyone else so had no choice =)

I eventually arrived at 2:30pm in Stafford Audi after 185miles. It looked very nice from the outside with pretty much the whole Audi range. They were even kind enough to leave two R8’s outside for me to drool over lol :hubbahubba:

I went in and spoke to Simon who was extremely hospitable and warm. He talked me through what they were going to do and how long it would take. He also recommended a brief walk to the town centre to pass time by. The brief walk was 35mins lol.

Well, after a little snack I headed back at 5pm and the car was finished. It was just getting a clean inside & out. They also topped up the coolant for me and noted that the cambelt was out slightly (if i've said it right) which explains some of the rough characteristics the car was experiencing.

I was handed back the keys with invoice and went on my way.

I must note that everyone was full of smiles, very informative and professional. I honestly wish I had also asked for the £199 major service that they were doing as it is just a blinding deal! He also noted that nobody could beat there £275 Cambelt offer apart from a dealer in France! Lol. Whether it’s true or not, it’s funny and actually, I kind of believe him!

Anyway, I highly recommend Stafford Audi for there outstanding level of service in person and on my A3.

I know many are having a rough time with some Audi dealers at the moment so I hope it’s a refreshing change to hear from someone who got a lot more than they expected. If you’re close or, like me, don’t mind taking a day out, do go to Stafford Audi. You won’t be disappointed.

My only regret is that I should have got the major service while I was there but hey ho :icon_thumright:

Hope this helps :readit:

Nice to hear someone actually posting good experience with a dealer not always moaning about bad ones.

=)

I know it's a long post. Just looked at it again and thought woah! lol but it was worth taking my time out for and writing about how positive my experience was. I'm sure it'll be useful now or later for someone.

Good to hear of good service, seems too rare nowadays regarding Audi dealers. Its just as important to know who you can trust as who you cant! LOL. If they are worthy then its good you can recommend to other members who have the option of using them.

Can you just confirm whether the £275 for the cambelt change included a new water pump or was the existing pump checked and found to be OK.

Yes can you confirm that it has the waterpump included in that price. As I just dropped my A3 at Bolton Audi today on the Audi £329 price on cambelt change but when I dropped the car they said an extra £80 for a new waterpump.

Thought if I knew that before I would have taken up Stafford's ebay offer and travelled down.

Right so it was:

Cambelt (inc. Roller etc) @ £275 + Waterpump @ £59.

This included all parts, VAT & labour. They even topped up my Coolant as well. Total came to £334 exactly.

I asked him in advance whether I needed to change the Waterpump or not. He said it's not absolutely neccassary but it's recommended so I went ahead and asked for it be changed as well.

Hope that helps.

Booked mine in at Preston after negotiating a bit of a discount rather than travelling to Stafford. Used Preston a few times now and I like them.
I've asked for the water pump to be checked but, would you recommend it be replaced. Does anyone know what the technicians / mechanics recommend?

change pump given location & work being done, as always known of pump to be done with cambelt as per mine have & for cost cant really say not worth it cause if it goes then cost could be far worse.

Get the pump done thats for sure. If it goes then it will cause some serious damage and its an easy job to do ( no extra labour charge) when doing the belt so it would be silly not to, even if they say its in good nick, they can just fail at any point when getting old.

Wise words & exactly as per my advise, old pump new belt, not good.

yup, had an Astra in a few weeks ago with bent valves due to a belt jumping. He said he had the belt & tensioner done 4k ago but not the water pump. It seize and threw the belt. Circa £650 IIRC

The infamous Ecotec is prone to the belt jumping, Vauxhall have known this for over 10 years ago now and they still ****** do it (My dads been a Vauxhall mechanic for last 30 years and says they still have 1 or 2 a week)

You can get lucky sometimes though, the belt actually come off a Mondeo I had years ago due to plastic tensioner failure, it run fine once we put a new one (and pump) on! I cant afford to get lucky twice though!!

I think Stafford Audi are the best dealership in England at the moment. Great value for money and I've heard nothing but good things about their service and facilities.

I don't know what's happened because I would only get 75-85miles for £10 worth of V-Power Diesel but now i'm getting 110miles after the Cambelt & Waterpump change!

It's lasting so long lol

Thanks emzino, good write up and thanks for the other recommendations regarding water pump. I will ask them to replace the pump as well.
I'm down at Beddington once a month and pass Coulsdon Audi, which has just opened. They must be pricey if your travelling to Stafford.

I'll add something bad.

I'm not having a good experience with their repair centre which just so happens to be owned by the same parent company as Stafford Audi. I thought once I contacted one of the directors things would get sorted - and after meeting him I couldn't have been more wrong.

But it's nice to hear that people are having a good experience with Stafford Audi. I know that I'll be avoiding Crewe Audi, Stoke Audi and Stafford Audi in future, which is a shame, but that company is not getting anymore money from me.

I have had several bad experiences with my local Audi dealer, Crewe Audi, which resulted in me buying my car from Dundee Audi who I couldn't recommend enough.

I'm another happy customer of Audi Stafford. I think it was Simon whom I dealt with. He's a really decent guy.

Good prices, good staff and good service. What more could you ask for?

I dealt with Simon too. Really nice guy and well spoken.

Good to hear you had a good experience too. =)

I had a 2.0TDI A3 Sport and there was a vibration and a faint rattle when you depressed the clutch so i took it to Stafford Audi. Their master technician took the car out and had a look and said he could not hear anything at all and said the car was fine. I wanted a second opinion and took the car to Crewe Audi where their master technician also took out the car. We had driven less than half a mile when he said "i know what's wrong". To cut a long story short the car needed a new clutch and flywheel which was done under warranty. So much for Stafford Audi. Now i only use Crewe Audi even though it is alot further for me to get to. :kissmyrings:

I wish you luck mate, lol. Have you considered trying Stoke Audi, as they may be a little closer? They're all part of the Swansway Garages group anyway.

Nice to hear that you've had good service.

Oh and I'm glad that they topped up your coolant, you wouldn't have got very far if they hadn't LOL.

Water pump change = drain all coolant out.

Paul

Don't mention Stoke. I bought the A3 from Crewe Audi and when the time came to trade it in i went back there and got an excellent deal on a TTS. I don't mind travelling a distance when you find a good garage and just because they are all part of the same group that does not mean you get the same level of service.
