The recomendation for this car is a 10w-40 semi synhetic or a 5w-40 full synthetic. All VW engines do things by codes, yours should be VW505.00 but your hand book will confirm this. There are a lot of oils to choose from that meet the VW505.00 spec and all that meet this spec will do, however some are better than others. I would personally go for a fully syntehtic 5w-40, look for a brand name and steer clear of home brands as they are made very much to a cost using cheap ingrediants if you like. Castrol, Mobil, Fuchs, Silkolene, motul all do top grade oils that will meet the VW505.00 spec, with a true synhetic you are also looking at 6000-9000 mile oil changes.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Guy.

YES! Top it up. don't be running around with the car low on oil. For the sake of a £10.00 worth of oil it could cost you alot more in the long run!

Mine needs a top up too!!!

Ive just bought some Castrol GTX Magnatec 15W-40

It does say its suitable for VW 505 00 and 501 01.

Before i top it up can sombody confirm this is ok for a standard interval srvived S3.

Taffy,
Magnatec not the best choice as viscosity is wrong for car, but any oil is better than none! According to earlier posts, I hear Castrol SLX is the correct one for the S3 (careful not SLX II), they sell this in Halfords.

Cheers
