sort what im trying to sayIf people are keeping the airbox...what exactly is wrong with a correctly fitting panel filter?
I don't get what a cone is supposed to give...especially one that's small enough to fit, and likely to have a smaller surface area!
A number of companies produce OEM oiled cotton panel filters, are these any improvement on the paper jobs?
Has anyone managed to get a 4" ducting pipe lown to the lower bumper while still retaining the original passenger smic? If so, please post pics.
i was looking under bonnet on my a3 1.8t quottro can you not put like 4 5to7mm spacers & longer bolts to match on rear of bonnet to lift it up to get rid of extra heat i no some peeps do this on honda civics etc.this would help with standard air box set up or induction kits would it not? would prob only be any good in dry weather but thats when most go out for a blast & go to meets etc.i may try this out
yea thats what i mean should work quite well in summer but in winter would need to lower or the heater prob wouldnt work very well.& it would not cost much to do a few spacers & bolts job done.i am lookin into getting a ths motosport intercooler pipe which will help more air go in & mod inner wheel arch to let heat get out better.as on standard set up air does not flow very well past intercooler & will hit iner wheel arch & circulate around back of intercooler so if i can help it get out it will run cooler & you have saved some money buying a fmic kit.i no its not the best fix but times are hard & i like playing with tuning my car as well as my bikes.Do you mean where they lift the rear of the bonnet? I thought of this but don't like the look of it myself. I am now looking in to cryo kits to see if they can cool the air and fuel(more cuz I wanna know if I can do it, how hard can it be?!).
i no this the bonnet lifting is for getting rid of hot air not trying to suck in cooled air.& not every body can afford to get a fmic.i am looking to get a better air flow past the standard intercooler & probally look into air flow to inner panel which feeds the standard air box feed.i like a challange & enjoy solving tuning probs while trying to keep a small budget.you can gain power if you no how to do the little things that count no point building a fast motor if it cant flow in & out fast enuferm, i dont think you have saved anything at all, your mod is not going to do anything anywhere near what an FMIC will do..... the air being sucked in is from behind the bonnet and not from the front.... this isnt the most effective way to get cold air in from the start....remember an FMIC will have the full force of the cold air your car is aimed at, you simply cannot imitate it by 'lifting' the rear of your bonnet
Bonnet vents wont do anything for the IC's, theyll just allow cooler air in/hot air out depending where placed.
