Is owning an S-Line a magnet for burglars?

I am still contemplating my next Audi purchase, I really like the S-Line range but I have a few nagging doubts in the back of my mind.

9 years ago my father bought a new Subaru Impreza RB5 (which I might add was an amazing car), however after owning it for approximately 3 months we had a break in at our house and there were 4 or 5 blokes hunting around for what we presume to be the car keys (as it happens my father kept them in a safe place). However after that incident my Dad hardly drove the thing after that and in the end sold the car a few months later.

I guess the question im asking is that are S-Lines, or Audi's in general sought after by theives etc?

yep! s-lines and s3 are gold dust of theieves and sell very quickly. both models share common parts like bumper grilee, bonnet, fog lights etc. just a shame really. Soem people actually approach these people to steal these cars and pay upfront
 
Any desirable car or 'easy to break into' car (such as your old joy rider classics) are probably targets for car crime, but this is obviously dependent on the security of the location that your car is stored at.
Also depends on your area I suppose, asin high/med/low risk for car crime.

If you live in a high risk area, yet have your own compound and high security, you would probably deter most car criminals/car thieves.
To own and drive a car that's on their hit-list is just a fact of life I suppose, otherwise we'd all be driving Kia's.
 
Think it depends where you live. Been a few people had their S3's taken or attempted to be. Think this has been in large cities though? Could be wrong.

There hasn't been a car stolen in the small town I live in ever to my knowledge! There were a couple of cars stolen end of last year from a town about 15 miles away by a gang from Liverpool that broke in and stole the keys but luckily nothing like thats ever happened here (yet).
 
i live in manchester in gorton a really ruff area but i no nearly everyone but i was burgled and they took my car whilst i was asleep in bed it wasnt an sline just a 1.6 with rs4s any audi is a target because they get good money for any when broke down .... just have good security a good alarm ive also had a cut out fitted to my feul pump so even if im burgled and get the keys at gunpoint they cant start the car and i no i shouldnt be saying on here this but they would never find the switch its an extra messure once there out the door trying to start your car you can deel with it or lock the door and phone the police either way there not driving off ....and it cost 60 quid to fit....after i was burgled it shook me up but they aint getting me down i got a better car and il be ready next time ....
 
To be honest if they had a gun i would show them how to start it and left them Feck off asap,i have the giac flashloader on mine with the kill button same again take the keys but if is in kill mode nowt they can do without the hand held unit
 
a guy in my area got a gun put to his head for his s3, a feew weeks later a evo 9 was stolen in a similar way. i am getting a bit paranoid now
 
Any Audi is going to be a target for the scum who steal cars. I live in a sleepy little village and in the space of only a few weeks, several cars were stolen (break into the house, take the keys) last year. Prior to that, car theft was unheard of why I live. They seem to target Audi, Merc, BMW.. then if nothing doing things like Focus ST's and such like have gone missing... always the same - they get the keys by breaking into the house. A friend of mine lost his TTS that way - he'd had it two days. He was just a bit upset (understatement).

My advice - lock your front door, from the inside. Lock all your windows. Fit security lighting (front, back and side of house) If you have a cat flat - seal it up, or have one that can be locked from the inside and will not bust open with a good kick. Keep your keys UPSTAIRS in your bedroom. GET A BURGLAR ALARM. Oh and FIT A TRACKER, so at least if the worst happens, you stand a very good chance of getting your car back and of course, the police catching the low life who took your car.

In conclusion - if you have a nice car, somone will sooner or later try to steal it. So, spend a few hundred quid on security, get smart to how these idiots get hold of keys (90% of the time they put their hand through the letter box and open the door - then find the car keys downstairs) and you stand a fair chance of not being another poor sod who had his or her keys stolen from their house and their car stolen. People who think 'it can't happen to me' are so, so stupid. MTPW - hope it helps.
 
To be quite honest, if guys were trying to get into my house I think I might be inclined to let them just have it, leave the keys on the downstairs table and let them go off. The last thing you want if for these scum to decide to venture upstairs (luckily the guys that broke into our house didn't get that far) as things could get very nasty then.

Also, if my car was stolen, I doubt I would want it back, especially if they have ranted the pants off it, I would rather just make a claim and leave it at that.
 
I can't believe anyone thinks it's inevitable their car will be nicked, like Esox Mark suggests.:wtf:

Maybe where he lives, thank god I don't live there.
I don't know anyone who's had their car nicked.
I've read stories on here and heard stories from colleagues in Manchester, but I've never heard of it happening in my circle of family/friends/neighbours.
Thank god.

If it did come to a 'situation', they can have the car without a fight.
It's insured and I would enjoy 'shopping' for an alternative.
 
I have a mate in Northampton who has/had a new shape RS4 and an R8.

Over Xmas burglars broke in during the night when they were asleep, nicked the keys to both, drove them a couple of streets away, located the trackers, ripped them out and threw out all of the personal belongings / trackers in the road, then legged it never to be seen again. Police arrived at his house at about 3 o'clock to alert him, and they had only been in bed for a couple of hours so proves how quick it can all be done.

Not worth the risk of fighting over it. You'll lose if they beat you up, and you'll lose if you hurt them as you'll be the one doing time, not them (they'll get sent to the Maldives to get over the trauma by the social).

Like a Martini, it can happen any time, any place, anywhere. As long as you take best case precautions thats all you can do.

The thing is, if you nick a Ferrari or a Bugatti its going to stick out like a sore thumb. You nick an Audi or a BMW, and its just another car on the road.
 
See I'm from Manchester too and have read alot of stories on here about peoples cars getting stolen and their houses being broken into for the keys. Now I havent bought my A3 yet but I'm after the 107 S-Line and I know its properly going to attract the wrong attention but I'd love to see the little scum bags get past our 2 rottweilers and staffy! hahaha :eyebrows:
 
This thread makes me laugh, best thing you can do fella is buy an N reg renault clio for £200, then you wont be worryin at all.

If your goin to be worrying about your car 24/7 you wont be enjoying it.
 
iv been burgled car robbed etc.... i wouldnt say im climbing the walls with fear lol .... but you gotta be ready for these ****** theres no harm in being a little paranoid keeps you on your toes its the people who arnt that get caught out. trust me it was a big wake up call .....they will be very lucky to get away with it next time and you know the worst of it was it was someone i know whos ended up on smack thats done it ...i have no proof but word of mouth etc ...

Well mine got stolen a few weeks ago. You're taking a risk if you have anything desirable, the question is: should you let it put you off spending your hard earned on something you want?

The day some vermin scum dictates to me what I can on my drive is a very sad one.

Although I have been fortunate and have only ever had one car stolen many years ago but wasnt subject to a break-in or carjacking etc....

Thats ridiculous, it quite clearly states the area he lives in! I dont know the place but surely wouldn't be that hard to find from that information?

My thoughts are the same as most others. If it gets taken I'd be seriously ****** off but rather they took it without a fight than me or any of my family getting shot/stabbed.

I'd fancy the sort of people who nick high-end motors never actually drive them.
It would be whisked into a shipping container and off to Dubai/Russia/China before you knew it.
 
My car got stolen afew weeks ago but it was stolen by my mate who thought it would be funny to take my keys off the pub table (with his sly hands) and blast it past the window with the tunes blasting.

I wasn't to happy but i did manage to steel his car and parked it about 5 houses down in someone else's drive ahahahaha

it was funny seeing him explain why his car is parked in their drive

You were lucky it was him that took them and not a genuine thief!

Why you would leave your car keys on display in somewhere like a pub is beyond me :laugh: :confused:

Your admiting to theft of a vehicle & driving with no insurance?

You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something you later rely on in court!

Two V8s firing up and driving away in the night surely would have woke someone up?

Christ... I know a guy who lived outside Northampton found a burglar in his kitchen looking for the keys for his RS6...

Can I ask what area of Northampton this was? I assume at least the R8 was garaged?

Hi mate-really sorry to hear about this. I'm considering getting an s3 and this is really putting me off. I live in stockport at the mo-did this happen anywhere near here? and did the carjack you at your house or were you out and about? got me worried now!!
 
Get some return to invoice GAP insurance if you are that worried.

Dont make it easy for criminals by leaving keys downstairs at night, but do just hand them over if you are threatened
 
it is contridicting yourself abit by taking your keys upstairs because they will probably come up then you hand em over you might aswell keep em on your table downstairs lol ..... or keep 20 house bricks at the top of the stairs as soon as your alarm goes off run to the top of the stair pick up your brick the first one on thethird step wallop it doesnt matter what theyve got they not gona take a guy on from an elevated leval with 20 bricks hahahahahaha lol

i dont have have a garage or a drive im afraid lol its just on the front but i do leeve my window open one inch so i can heer any creeping .......

When it came to my particular S-line, I was always disappointed when I looked out in the morning and saw it was still there.:rolleyes:
