I am looking for a good, reliable and professional tuning company for work on two audi`s and a porsche 911 gt3 rsr.. I am not looking for a company comparable to AMD,that i last used (now gone,i know),that turns out shoddy work.. I have a good reason to enquire about the above company (any MRC staff reading this? -Re:appointment 9th july-10 a.m),and will appreciate any honest comments regarding this and other companies i can feel confident enough in,to undertake future tuning requirements. Thanks for your time and comments.

From what Ive read MRC come highly recommded.

As far as the porker goes, a mate of mine is a partner in Ninemeister in Warrington and owns a gt3rs himself.

They do a lot of work on race prepping cars.

They regularly appear in the porsche mag and come highly recommended.

depends where you are based though.

Thanks for the warrington lead simon. i will look into it. As for MRC,it still remains for me to gain confidence in them after todays utter fiasco at my time and expense and a wasted 216 mile, round trip, due to a simple, basic error on their behalf. This is my first experience with them and to say the least,my confidence,at the moment, is somewhat well down the scale. I will see how they rectify this before committing myself though. Thanks again.

I've never heard a bad report on MRC in the two years i've known them. Doug is an excellent spannerman and Mihnea knows VW / Audi ECU's inside and out. they've remapped and tuned many many S and RS cars always with good reports from the owners. one of the things that impresses me is they ALWAYS do a health check before laying a map on a car

i won't take my car anywhere else for engine or tuning work.

looks like Dougs receptionist has dropped the ball on this one. Oooops

Is Doug scottish by any chance? ..My initial phone call to arrange parts and fitting, was taken by a woman who said someone would phone back..After leaving my number and waiting three days for the call that never came,i phoned them back. A scottish chap took the call and said my number was not entered into the diary. So, i gave him my number and arranged a time and date for the work to be done. Great! no probs.. Today, the day of the appointment and after taking the day off without pay and filling the car up with fuel, i set off early to keep the appointment. Realising i was going to be slightly late due to heavy traffic and roadworks,i phone MRC just to be told by the same scottish chap, that the parts had not arrived and they could not contact me because my number was not entered in the diary. AGAIN??
Which one is the receptionist? They are not doing their company any favours with such a unprofessional approach to new customers.

That is abit slack i must admit, i'm booked in for Saturday. The Scotish guy was Doug.

That's quite unlike him. I've only got praise for the service i've received from MRC.

Assuming Doug is the owner/partner,that makes it even more astounding. To be fair,he did say he would do a deal on the work when the parts arrive, but i doubt that will come anywhere close to the amount i have lost today. Also, considering that i have to go through the same process again, this work is going to cost a few hundred pounds extra through my lost revenue. Im not a gambling man but if i had backed the winner of the 3.30 with what i have lost today, then i would be in a happier frame of mind now. On reflection, that may have been the more favourable option. Anyway,i hope things go ok for you on saturday.

shame to hear about your experiences with MRC. I booked mine in with Doug recently and after having the work done can not fault them at all infact I am so impressed with their knowledge and skills that I am having all servicing as well as a live remap done by them in the near future. Just cannot fault them at all.

I can vouch for MRC - they know turbo Audis inside out - especially B5 S4/RS4s. All my work has been carried out by MRC, the result of which is that I have a jolly quick car!

Thanks for the replies guys. Its good to hear your points of merit. Hopefully, the future will hold my points of merit also. The B5 S4 is surely a great car. I have chipped/mapped S4 engine, transplanted into a A4 FWD. Fun to drive but unforgiving if driven with heavy foot and a empty head.

when i had my S4 mapped by MRC they replaced the MAF as it was reading low. about 2 months later the replacement one failed. quick call to Doug and he had one in the post to me. that sort of service is exactly why i rate them highly.

i know it doesn't compensate you for the trouble and expense you've been through but they're only a small team and mistakes can be made when you're busy, just give them a chance and i'm sure you'll be more than satisfied.

think Steve Wong has the reputation for 911 tweaking.
MRC certainly have a very good track record and don't do your off the shelf rubbish. often the case with very good technician who have more demand than they can cope with, they lose track of the admin side. sounds like a simple mistake though.

911 GT3 RSR as in the full on GT racer ? 996 or 997 ? Why would you want it looked at by an Audi Tuner ? I would get on the Porsche forums and find a race team or at least a big specialist Porsche tuner.

Most unlike MRC, I agree with the others. I hope Doug sees this and replies.

I've had a bit of work done by Doug after AMD went bust.
Decent chap, but he seems to be running the whole show by himself, and it doesn't work!! The phone isn't answered and potential work not followed up......

I've phoned four times over the course of about a month to see if I can do a deal on some RS6 brakes for my S4,,, every time I had to give up!!

As others have said, I'm sure Doug's a great mechanic, but he's obvoiusly **** at admin and needs help to get it sorted.

It is the 997. I mentioned the car to Doug, but he did`nt say they do not do Porsche work. I do not know the extent of MRC`s expertise and if it extended to changing calipers, discs and pads on the car. The work has now been done elsewhere.

My only single complaint of MRC is things are badly organised and your car can be in for longer than necessary because of easily avoidable delays. This is frustrating when it is your daily transport. I still use MRC, I just make sure I keep on top of Doug and see that he follows through on everything.

MRC without a doubt are the best to work on the 2.7T & Audi 5cyl cars and are very good with all other cars in the VAG group. I have no idea what their rep with Porsches are?

Does anyone here know,or live near any MRC staff? Do me a favour and tap on their window and ask them to come on this site so i can ask them if my parts have arrived. Two days and many phone calls but no answer from them. Are they members of our romany community? They have the same habits. What a shambles!

if Doug is there by himself and is doing a health check or remap etc, then chances are he is out on a road test setting the car up if there is no reply. In my experience I have never had problems getting through but then I may just be lucky

Emailed them the other day for some advice and Doug got back to me within a day.

Thanks for the links speedy... I have still not heard from MRC concerning the parts i have ordered (after three weeks) and i still cannot contact them to tell them to shove them where the sun dont shine. I have the parts ordered elswhere now and should have them within five days. .I will not use MRC in the future for anything and will not recommend them to anyone, for anything.. They only seem to be professionals at wasting customers time and money and i will not now be convinced otherwise.

No problem. Have no experience of MRC, only what I've heard on here, shame they screwed up as they seem to get good feedback.... I have used APS who are very good, they have done work to several of my cars, ex-AmD guys. I don't have a Porsche but I know one of the guys that runs Fearnsport.

Sorry for your experiences mickpd3. I can only apologise - I left a message 2 weeks ago with my mobile number and that the arbs would not be available for shipping from germany until this week - and that H&R have not been reliable for the parts.

I am the only person that works here full time and yes the phone does not get answered when I am out, and yes I need to get more people to work here and yes I am too busy.

Your parts will be shoved in the appropriate place.

Doug

There was no message left from you on my phone. I can assure you of that. I was talking to you two weeks ago (9th) and you did`nt mention the above. The 9th was the day you arranged for me to have the parts fitted, but you did`nt have the parts or my phone number,at that time,as you claimed, even though i had given it to two people there before that date. Normally one can expect the parts to be delivered first and then the appointment made to fit them, instead of sending a customer on a wild goose chase.. Your business calls can also be diverted to your mobile phone so that customers, sat in limbo can contact you. The customer should not be expected to foot the bill, due to loss of earnings, time, etc, due to a company`s admin problems.. I have learned a expensive but valuable lesson here. .This is my last contact with MRC.

Sorry - 2 weeks ago was the 10th - the day after you phoned me. 18 second call at 18:54 to the 818487 number is on my phone bill. I offered to supply them to compensate you - again sorry for your experience - and I can understand why you would not use us.

Thorough... have suggested the sexy secretary... as the S4 becomes affordable - your business will grow, get someone in ASAP!! You can do more work, make more money, pay her off and keep everyone happy!

People will pop in just to say hi to the girl behind the desk... I would :D

Only flaw in that plan is that less work would get done. :hubbahubba:

Too many distractions for the Team.

I have to say Doug as responded very professionally and yes he Fcuked up as he stated and he wasted someone’s time but you have to say there have been no complaints about his work that has been carried out so I would not right him off yet.
