I ordered a new car last year (Audi Q5) and I put down a deposit of £1000 for it when it was ordered.

Not long ago I got totally screwed over and lost my job! My car is sat ready to be collected next Monday l but I don’t have a job still and the mortgage takes priority!

My question is am I entitled to the deposit back?

I have been in constant talks with Audi who, when the topic is broached, tell me not to worry we can sort something, and they are very optimistic we can sort something without a job (I won’t spend £40k on a car with no job - mortgage is priority number one!)

I am seeing them on Sunday, but I don’t know if I am entitled to (or whether to expect) my deposit back?
Not sure if anyone has been in this position before?

Any help appreciated!

Did you sign an order form in the dealership?

If you didn’t and your order was placed by email or phone you are entitled to cancel with deposit refund- distance selling

Otherwise the terms and conditions apply that are contained in your order form that you signed

Hopefully the dealers are sympathetic to your situation regardless of the above

Good luck

I'm sure there are time limits on distance selling so you need to check up on what they are. Just hope they'll be a bit understanding about your job loss.

Just had another thought- any finance agreement you talked about or signed will now be void as you now have no income to satisfy the repayments.

Good luck on finding another job .

Distance selling return time starts when you receive the goods, then you have a reasonable amount of time to change your mind, whats reasonable? Lots of things when youve had ten pints of lager

Sorry to hear that. Let us know how you get on with this too. It really depends on the individual Centre I think. If it's a factory order this also might influence it, Q5 is in good demand at the moment so hopefully they could just adopt the car into stock and then sell it anyway and return your money. If you've ordered one in bright pink that will make it hard to sell, you may have more difficulty.
