Re-locating Battery 3.0tdi

Hello,

Has anyone ever re-located a battery in a 3.0tdi cabriolet to the boot?

Any tips on how to do it? OR costs if you got some one else to do it?

Many thanks.

If you’ve ever put an amplifier in your boot the process will be much the same although you’ll be wanting some much fatter cables.

Find a suitable route that will give as much protection to the cables as possible, through the cabin and under the carpet if you can or outside and underneath if you can’t, probably best you run it in some flexible conduit for extra protection if you’re going outside. You’ll need to cut a hole in the bodywork into the boot or into the dashboard cavity, use a compression gland or two to stop air/water/gunk from working its way in. Unbolt the battery connectors and find a suitably large crimp or connector to join or solder and heat shrink (if you have the tools) and connect your extension cables. Reattach battery connectors at the boot end and voila!

Can’t say I’d recommend it though, would you mind if I asked why you’d like to do this?

Depending on the type of battery you might need a breather pipe as well, you'll also need to find a way of clamping it down securely or it's an MOT failure.

The battery's a very tight fit into it's usual spot and awkward to change but I'm with Tom on this mod, unless you desperately need that space in the engine bay.

Hello guys,

Thanks for replying.

It was purely going to be a weight saving exercise from the front of the car.

But sounds like to much work for little gain.

Thanks.

Yep, it's a heavy battery but at least it's behind the axel, it's that muckle 3.0tdi sticking out the front that's the 'problem' :)
