Hello all.
I have a 2009 Audi A6 Le Mans 2.0 TDi saloon. I have a dash cam that plugs into the ciggie lighter socket. When I switch off the ignition the ciggie lighter socket still has power going to it and the dash cam remains on.
Is there anyway I can adapt the sockets so that when the ignition is turned off, the power turns off?
Thank you.

I think he is in the right place, @Furryhobnob.

I have the same in mine 2010 A6. All cigarette sockets seems to have constant power supplied.

You might need to piggy back into ignition switched fuse for that. Either directly for camera power lead or redirect front cigarette socket there.

I think his thread has been moved here as it was in the c5 section when I posted

Do your sockets stay live all the time?
I think mine switch off after about 15-20 minutes when the car electronics go to sleep. I found that out when I tried to leave my phone on charge when I was camping.

Hmmm. Always thought it stays on all time.

Will check that out

Don't forget that the car wakes up when you open a door, so you need something with an LED on that you can see from outside.

You could stick a switch om the cable? Ive never chopped into one so not sure how easy this would be?

Surely eBay has 12V sockets with a power switch on?

If OP wants parking mode, he need to hard wire the camera with constant power supply. Either use batt pack or one of those hard wire kits that cut the power off when it reaches low voltage you've set.

I personally would've gone for the batt pack, as it doesn't interfere much with cars electrics.

Take a look at this, this is just the first one I came across

EBay item no - 322921352311

Left the car at 9am today and took the picture just now.

Over 5 hours and front power outlet is still on (green light on the charger).

Took the picture through the window.

This confirm constant power supply to front 12V power outlet.
Presume it will be same for the rest of them

Apologies, I have realised that I was wrong about the 12V sockets.
I have the phone cradle in the armrest and that does switch off after about 15 minutes.

Phone could be different as its wired up deeper probably than just 12v.
I personally never tested outlets before.
Good that I did now, though.

If you want a nice clean install you could snip the plug off and feed the cable across and down behind one of the a pillars, there should be a cavity through the dash you can get to via the side panels where it meets the door. Either route it to the fuse box or take it to the stereo where you'll have an ignition feed you can splice into. Big yellow wire I believe. You can get a cheap 'buck converter' to give you 5v out. I'll find a link...
