Hi all,
Sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong place. Ok I’m looking to get some new suspension for my b5 avant fwd and I have discovered company’s selling different forms. With regards to the rear suspension I have a coilovers type ie the spring sits around the damper but there are kits for the b5 with separate spring and damper so the spring sits behind the damper like on a Ford Focus. Did Audi do two different types when making the b5? Or are these company’s selling incorrect kits? And there are a few of them like pro sport and Jom and H&R but they also sell the correct kit as well?

Eibach Pro sport kit is the choice I'd choose. They are brilliant. Had them on my B6. The ride height and handling, I felt, were perfect. Not too harsh or crashy, but just right.

The rear spring sits over the shock absorber on B5 Avants. Some pictures are generic, hence the confusion.

Ok thanks S4_dan, that’s what I thought but the amount of times I saw it I wasn’t sure. I’ll check out the eibach’s. I have the se model so it sits pretty damn high lol how much do you think would be a good drop? It’s only on 17s at the moment but want some 18s might even go for 19.

iirc - if i recall corrently , by the way make sure to update here after you get the suspension cause im in the middle of getting new kit on my TQS (turbo quattro sport ) :) and wanted to try some cheap coilovers for now cause what i really want is the bilstein b12 kit but nearly £600 for that now with christmas coming is a lot.

I will do, thank you for that I was a bit confused . To be honest I’m going for a cheap set the reason being that we have a little one so need to keep pennies really. The reason I’m going coilovers is I drove a mates car with a set of jom coilovers and couldn’t believe how smooth it was! So either my suspension is shot even though it’s not sagging and has never been picked up on mot, or Audi suspension on se models is rubbish. His was on a seat cupra r with 18s so I’m looking for bigger wheels next when I get surplus cash. He did tell me it’s not nessarily how expensive or cheap the sus is but how you set it up.

Hi mate got some kW coilovers for my avant not fitted yet this is my avant which I am in the middle of modifying will let you know how they feel

That looks tidy mate! Is that a sport? Mines only 1.8 non turbo I measured the gap between arch and tyre the other day at 90mm and for some reason it was higher on passenger side rear at nearly 100 .

Yes mate 1.8t pushing around 190bhp but going to hybrid turbo it looking for around 250bhp that's weird one side high that the other side I can only think one side has a leaky shock

Ok dude I thought I was kinda clued up with cars! What the hell is a hybrid turbo lol? Yeah it’s just the one shock that’s 10mm higher than the rest . I always wondered if it was possible to put a bam engine in the avant but I’ve been told you can’t because of the orientation it sits?

Hybrid turbo is original housing with bigger turbine different internals can't put a bam in but you can put other 1.8t that are meant for that got any pics of your motor mate

I get ya, damn that’s a shame as I might have the chance of getting hands on a bam never mind. I have mate I will try putting some up tomorrow once I work out how to lol then once I have sus on I’ll stick some more up.

What else you got planned for it mate
Needs a new exhaust so I was thinking of a dtm style twin pipe but I’m not sure on that yet. I would rather get an s3 exhaust to keep it looking standard but there different diameter pipe, do you think they do an adapter to step it back down again? And new wheels, I was thinking 18x8.5 maybe some bbs lm style rims.
What about yours or are you happy with how it is?

Lol never happy with it always doing stuff to it hopefully Santa comes down the chimney with a forge dump valve lol he's some more pics lm bbs sounds like a good shout

Ok struggling with pics at min, just got to work out how to resize them on iPad

With regards to the exhaust if you get a custom one fitted you can choose what you want decaf may even free up some bhp

So got there in the end. Yeah completely standard apart from 17 inch rep rs4 alloys which I will use as winter wheels when I get new set. Yes has tow bar and will more than likely take off as I have never used it lol.

I'd leave the tow bar on. Always keeps cars away from parking too close to the rear in car parks etc. Also helpful when reversing up to a wall or barrier. Lol.

Instead of a beeping noise it makes a crunching noise lol

Pmsl that’s very true, it would be Sod’s law I take it off and reverse into something.

Would I need shorter drop links with the Audi or is it not necessary? If I do does it depend on how much it’s lowered? I know you can get adjustable drop links but are they any good?

Hi mate I am 70% sure you don't someone may say different hopefully not because I ain't and are be dropping it in January lol

That’s exactly when I’m hoping to be dropping mine, if I have time that is lol. I know some cars require drop links being done but I’m sure somewhere I heard due to the geometry of Audi suspension they don’t really require it. Just hoping for clarification really.
