Hi,
my key fob wouldn't open the car, the red light on the fob was flashing, so I gathered the battery had gone. After replacing the battery same problem, so I put another battery in, and still got red light flash. Does any body know what could be wrong, thanks.

If your key fob lost power due to lack of battery contact, for some reason, it may need to be reprogrammed. It could loose memory of your car and you need to "remind" it.

Seen few videos on yt how to program a fob, after battery replacement.

You shouldn't leave the fob without battery for longer than 20 min, I read, as this is how long the fob will keep its memory. Not saying you did that but in general.

Try this

And if I get a second hand one to use as a second key, do I program it, and how, thanks.

Swap immo capsule across then use vcds to code the remote locking, immo & locking are independent of eachother.

The capsules are delicate glass, if megamos 48 versions, so be very very delicate removing.

If your existing one has lost memory, you can program it by putting it into the door lock than ignition and some sort of order of button press sequence has to be done or something like that.
Check yt how its done.

New replacement key jas to be programmed different way and by specialist.
You also need to make sure, your new second hand fob will be same frequency.

Isn’t the immo capsule already built in on the circuit in A6 fobs?

Recently swapped fob shell and had no capsule anywhere else visible. Pretty sure it was soldered onto the board.
All works for my fob.

I'v seen on yt that a bloke fixed his key by inserting it into ign, turning it on, press the unlock on the key and the press the unlock and lock on the door panel, turn the ign off, and his key worked.

That should be it.
Did you tried it?

Not yet as the car is in the garage, but will do and let you know.

In that case, get someone to look into it. It may be transmitter packed up as fob want to do something. Led is flashing so it all works, as for electronics but it cannot send/receive any info to/from the car.

Have a spare one?

I programmed the fob on my old Skoda by inserting the spare key into the ignition and turning it on. Then with the other key I locked and unlocked the drivers door from outside, followed by pressing the lock and unlock buttons on the fob.
Open the door, turn off ignition and removed spare key. Fob worked after that.

Mine locks the car and arm the alarm even by turning the key in the door lock.
Does yours does it?

The keys work now! I charge the battery up over night with the battery charger, and the key works and so does the alarm, so I'll keep a check on the battery, I may need a new one.
