I sold a downpipe on ebay a few weeks back which was from my 2009 Audi S3 8P.

It was a stainless 3inch pipe from piperwerx with hi-flo cat which fits your existing system, i kept my old down pipe and swapped back before i sold the car, my local audi specialist fitted it within about 3omins with no hastle.

My buyer has now filed a complaint and a return saying it doesn't fit their car, it's damaged and rusty. Although its just words i am honest and have a 100% seller rating on ebay, the item was exactly as described and is in good condition, it's stainless steel ***! I checked with piperwerx they too confirmed it should fit all Audi S3 8P models.

Are there different types i am not aware of that wouldn't fit or are they just pulling a fast one here?

Can you get some photo evidence from the buyer that it's damaged and rusty and compare it to the pics you listed against on eBay? You need an air-tight case as eBay rarely favours the seller. Conscious I'm not answering your question however.

if you could get anything l from piperwerx stating that the item you sold should fit there car i can't see any reason why ebay would be in there favour , again it doesn't really answer your 2nd part about different types but i think if piper already said it should fit there Car that should be enough ,

Thanks peeps, yep i sent a screenshot of the message back from piperwerx stating 'i do not see any reason why this will not fit their car' to paypal. Fyi i declined the ebay return request with correspondance first informing them it was unfair and incorrect their accusation. So they raised a paypal dispute.

I pasted the original ebay transaction showing when i bought it (and fitted to my car fine for about a year) and then removed and sold with identical description on my ebay item, also showed the same exhaust being sold by piper_werx today with same description and photo of my exhaust matches theirs. They still believe the buyer who first claimed it doesn't fit under ebay, and then on paypal that it's rusty and damaged.(

Ive already lodged a complaint to paypal saying your buyer protection scheme should not be at the expense of honest sellers. Its all about keeping those buyers happy and keeping the money coming in. I asked for photo graphic evident to prove it's damaged or doesn't fit their car, i bet you they didn't even bother. BOC's

They probably couldn't fit it with their ape like fists! Fitting an aftermarket downpipe on these cars does require the prop to be removed and some fiddling nothing crazy!

Sounds like he decided he doesn't want the part.

If you get the part back, refund him.

Does he have good feedback?

Aha this figures hence the return request from buyer..

"The exhaust doesn t seem to fit. After taking it for fitting we ve been told that the longer pipe that joins to the OEM exhaust is too long, and would at best require cutting and modifications to make it work. The front pipe from the turbo goes on but there are concerns about it rubbing on the prop shaft."

Sounds like the muppet trying to fit it just wanted to scam them or they are being dishonest.. maybe their local Audi Stealer ;)

They have good feedback i have to say.. however with all due respect i don't believe keeping it for 3 weeks plus and then accusing me of mis selling and sending them a faulty bent rusty exhaust is fair, i spent a long evening disputing plus lost of money and time and now trying to claim back ebay fee's etc, just because they çhanged their mind. Sold my mint Loba HPFP and CAI on ebay also to 2 very happy customers!

Yeah I feel your pain.

Unfortunately eBay always sides with the buyer, and your going to be hard pushed to prevent the claim being actioned.

Best case scenario is that buyer pays for return shipping costs, and you get the part back.

By the way ive found you can take this to the Financial Ombudsman which i shall gladly do. Paypal clearly dont give a ****, as it's all about making sure people buy which keeps them raking it in. If anyone else reads this thread i shall post back procedure and how i get on, this is out of principle, i really dont like getting stiffed, they picked the wrong person. Thankyou all for your input and views, much appreciated!

Clearly the fitter has no experience of fitting uprated downpipes, as propshaft clearance is minimal on the S3. Also, does he honestly expect it to fit a std cat back system without some extra work? This guy obviously has not done his research.

Tell him to try and torque up the turbo bolts whilst pushing the downpipe up. I had to do this with my Milltek to get it to clear the prop. Theres about 4mm of gap between the exhaust and prop doughnut but I've not had any rubbing at all. You'll find it's a tight squeeze with any downpipe tbh

I am afraid this is par for the course on ebay since they decided that the buyer is always right.
I sold a brand new ECU for a ducati monster to a guy in Spain. He complained, said it didn't work and returned his origin broken unit to me and kept my new unit !!
PayPal refunded his money from my account and Ebay upheld his negative feedback.
Upshot was as a business seller i was doing £2-3k a month with Ebay. I closed my account, never sold anything on ebay again, started my own website and have never looked back :)

Whats the name off your site Paddy , pm me

Ebay buyers, ever since learning sellers can't leave negative feedback anymore, have unleashed their inner dishonesty big time and it's absolutely disgusting. You literally can't sell anything second hand without being called a liar and a scam artist no matter how honest you are as a seller and it really sucks. I hope when you get the exhaust back (because ebay basically gives you no choice but to eventually accept a return in order not to be out of pocket) you should go to the buyers house and beat him over the head with it

Dont tempt me ;)

Utter knob jockies.. there are apparently things you can do to possibly prevent the refund allegedly so ive been told but of course i wouldn't possibly consider them.

I had an experience like your one and i offered part refund even tho it was a scam , the person took the money ( a fiver ) and then i got in contact with ebay and asked if it had be a genuine return item would they think the person would accept a fiver for a £95 item they agreed and now the person is no longer trading on Ebay either through his own choice or Ebay. So it might be something worth considering even tho u sold them a genuine and good functioning item , better to cut some loses than all

Your problem is as soon as you sign up to the terms and conditions on ebay you give them the right to adjudicate in these things. they cover their backs right down to having access to your private paypal account.
Just take it as a lesson learned and simply dont bother with ebay any more, ...like me :)
