I think this is great but I know some people here won’t like it.

Really dislike the interior with the new touchscreen, don't get me wrong I think my iPhone is great but touch screens aren't for in cars especially while trying to perform basic functions when driving. One of the reasons I chose my S3 over a Golf R was because of the physical buttons and scroll pad.

I like the 'look' of the 3 screens... I don't like the lack of wheel or dial control.

It will be interesting to see what turns up in the next A3. Personally I quite like the idea of a touch screen. The setup in my wife's Polo seems much easier to use that my A3. Even with the Audi 'wheel' you still have to look at the screen for a lot of the functions most of which should be done whilst you are stopped anyway.

Who cares..... l buy a car on how it looks and drives and not for the silly gadgets....... There's far too much emphasis put on such things as Apple carplay and Android it's a frickin car ***......

Here are links to a couple of YouTube videos about the new A8. The garage parking and exit would be great for me as my garage is not that big and I do have some leg problems which make getting in and out of the car in the confined space of the garage a bit difficult, but I still like to be it in to the garage if I can.

The under the car charging, in the garage, would be useful for anyone who goes for the e-tron version.

Who has a garage large enough to accommodate a frickin massive A8 lol

But the reality is, you interact with the technology inside a car constantly. Whether it be for environment, navigation or entertainment purposes.

And while looks and driving performance absolutely matter, you can't tell the poor folks stuck in traffic commuting 2 hours a day that interior tech and ergonomics don't matter.

So for those customers, that emphasis you mention is very important.

Americans and Germans. But if the same technology ends up on the A3 then my A3 fits in my garage and is put there every night.

So you'll buy a car with the best gadgets over buying a car that looks better but with not so high tech and what benefits has ergonomics got over standard technology when your stuck in traffic? The next new gadgets doesn't always mean it's better.... But l bet most folks that are into this kinda kit have also got the newest and latest iPhone or Android phones?

I really don't like it. Once upon a time I have dreamed about owning one, but if I ever do get one, I'll go for model before this new one.

I literally hate touch screens as I've owned a car with touch screen before and it was a nightmare to operate while driving. Also the styling is... odd.

Well at least it has a volume dial and the steering wheel keys are still there. Imagine if they changed the steering wheel keys to touchscreen buttons....

Thing is though with this it isn't just the nav / music etc that is now touchscreen. They've even incorporated the temperature controls which have gone from simple to complex. Look at the R8 / TT for instance extremely simple to use, why fix what isn't broken :whistle2:

Dont like it at all, looks like it should be in a Ford - and look at all the dust and finger prints you can see in those photos, on a new launch car, imagine how bad that'd be to live with when constantly in use and sun beaming on it..

Guess it all comes down to cost, must be more efficient to knock these kind of units out over buttons and mechanisms. Plus I guess they are looking for a new market.

I'm a big fan of the VC and mmi screens but that combo in the A8 looks too much for me. The new Range Rover Velar has a similar set up.

In your particular example about being stuck in traffic. New technology such as ACC - being stuck in traffic with ACC is much better than without in. Also personally I see at lot more of the inside of my car than the outside! It's all a matter of balance. I like a car to look nice, but I also like some of the kit that makes the driver's life a little easier. No doubt people thought power assisted steering, power assisted brakes, automatic gear boxes, electric windows, electric moving and folding mirror etc etc were OTT when it first came out, but I doubt many drivers would want to be without then now. Having driven army vehicles without any 'gadgets' I would certainly not like to go back to them now. Even modern tanks now have automatic gear boxes.

Here here, less is more, that's why I like the pop up MMI so I can hide it away and not worry about the gadgets once I have set off.

A8 is starting to look like the inside of the Teslar which is the one reason I would not consider the new Model 3

I think that looks great. But as well as it being inevitably riddled with bugs, the fingerprints and dust would drive me insane.

*cough* New E Class *cough*

Hate the steering wheel controls on new E class.

New E class with the very expensive optional 2 displays.... Looks like something on the display shelves from Currys, there's a line in ergonomics/ user interface that shouldn't be crossed.... Next thing you know the BBC will charging ye for a TV licence for the telly displays in yer brief lol

I never said that. But given two short listed cars of equal performance and good looks, the one with more useful interior tech will get the nod. Marketplace competition.

Every driver has different use cases, but I'll venture to say the hardcore daily commuters and/or those with a single car put a significant emphasis on interior tech and comfort features; for second or "weekend pleasure cars", probably not as much.

By the way, back on topic, I am actually not a fan of the new A8 interior. Too many screens and I don't like the trend of moving away from physical buttons to touch interface ones. More interior tech is fine with me as long as it is convenient, useful and easy/safe to interact with.

Agreed. Nearly crashed twice in my a3 because there is too much tech with CarPlay and virtual cockpit which I have been trying to do something and took my eye off the road. Got to be careful

Still like my wheel... I had a VW CC with the old touch screen, it was slow and clunky! I know this new screen will be as quick and intuitive as an iPad... but won't take away that annoying thing as you reach to touch a button and the good old British roads, hit a pothole and press the wrong button!
