Hi all! Replaced my -12 Audi A6 Avant a few weeks back for a -16 Daytona Grey Audi S3 Saloon automatic. I have been wanting this model since a while back and have been waiting for one with the right color and spec to turn up. The car has most of the extras (panoramic sunroof, pre-sense, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, black exterior package, factory tinted windows etc) and few miles (24000kms) . Previous owner had a tuning box installed which I consider replacing at a later stage for some kind of software tuning (Revo stage 1 maybe) but for now the box is left in there and is good for about 353HP / 457Nm. I have just had the car detailed at Ditec (Ceramic) and I am very happy with the result.

I am mainly very happy with the car and performance, and the jealous looks it gets on the streets puts a smile on my face :) but I do have a few minor issues. Maybe I am spoiled by the smooth ride from the A6, but sometimes when sometimes driving over speed bumps (Sweden has these f-n things everywhere..), the sound from the dampers produces an irritating sound. Its like a clunking sound (not metallic) and this is even if I am in Comfort Mode. I just think an expensive car like this should not sound like that. I think the sound only comes from the rear dampers. Is there anything to be done about this sound? I also have some plans on lowering the car somewhat in the future, and the second question is how will this work on a car with the adaptive suspension? Any issues or things to consider?

I read there was a lot of different ideas as to when the car actually is in Dynamic mode (when using Drive Select). How do you have your cars setup for this? Since I dont want to constantly press buttons or have too much hassle, I am always in the Individual setting (Drive select button mapped to the * on the steering wheel for quick access) with motor on "auto", suspension/steering on "comfort" and rest in "dynamic". When I want to go faster I put stick down to S and it sounds and feels like the car is in Dynamic? This way also I dont have to manually turn off "start/stop" function every time I change the Drive select mode.

:welcome!: to ASN.

Fab looking car you have there.

Is the clunking from the front ? Sounds very much like the upper strut mounts lots of issues with these I've had them replaced on mine. If you're looking to lower the car by replacing the springs then I strongly recommend replacing the upper mounts and bearings.

Rear mounts have also been problematic and I believe there to be a technical service bulletin to have these replaced.

Probably best to take it to a dealer and have it looked at under warranty before any suspension mods.

I'm running Eibach Sportlines which lower the car 20-25mm. Plenty of threads on this but it cured my bouncy rear end (mines a Sportback) and handles better at a small expense of ride comfort maybe 25% harsher. I run my drive select on individual with everything on dynamic except the suspension which is on auto.

Rob is correct, if it's the rear there is a technical service bulletin. I had both rear top mounts replaced because they were knocking on even small bumps.

Thanks guys! Yes it is indeed the rear. Car is under warranty until Sept and they wanted me to swing by for them to go for a ride and check. However sometimes, I dont hear the sound, its intermittent. So I hope they choose the "right" speed bumps.. :bluecar:

Interesting thread this and nice car btw.
I've noticed I'm getting a bang every now and again from the rear when coming off speed bumps.
Maybe a trip to the dealer is in order for me too.
I'll add it to my list!

Great looking car!
I must admit, I switch between Drive Select modes when I'm approaching a speed bump area.
Normally drive in Dynamic but I have programmed Individual the same but with suspension set to Comfort for these sections.
Does make a difference.

So an update on this..

The car was up for 30000km service so I also asked them to look at the rear knocking sound before warranty expires (1 month). They called me the day after and informed me they will replace the rear mounts, just like you said. Parts were on back order though so I have to wait until tuesday, but I got a brand new Q2 as a loaner so I will not complain :yellowrs4:

My cousin just financed the new 2022 s3 & it look’s hideous. I prefer the older s3 models prefer the 8p S3 & 8v. Yours looks great! Congrats! I would take it to a wheel/tire shop & have the wheels balanced or tracked. Take it for diagnostic testing at a reputable garage. All should be revealed.

Is this one of those odd bot posts, he said what the problem was back in 2017?
