My S3 Build Thread

Just a note mine needed sanding on the sides and the top by about 3mm to fit as it hit the dash switches above it. All the edges are covered when fitted so you don't notice

Yeah, I have a Dremel and should be able to get it sorted easily. I imagine that some very fine sandpaper along the edge can be used to smooth out the rough finish.

I used a multi sander with course paper, helps keep the curved profile, then finished it off with fine paper, think a dremel would ****** it up

Id say that would depend on 3 things:
1 how new your car is - mine had the highline steering module and repair wire to the engine bay already fitted;
2 how good you are this requires a bit of know how and confidence;
3 whether you have VCDS as you need to code 3 modules if I remember right.

I tried the mod on my 54 plate V6 and never got it to work.

The install on this car was pretty straight forward but I had done it once before.

Cheers, its a 2010 so hopefully relatively straight forward then :)

Climate control update

T8 driver turned up so swapped backs of units over

Changed the hottest seat temp to 55 in Adaption Ch26 see how I get on.

Checked the module and cos its from Germany thinks its in a left hand drive so when you sync the temps it syncs to the passenger side!

The lbl file says the coding of the module can only be changed using basic settings and this is done automatically from other modules but it doesn't say which ones...... next challenge accepted.

I think if you have the MFSW it should be straightforward as long as the coding goes ok

cheers all fitted now, any ideas how to do the coding via vcds?

So if you get a German module heres how to change the module settings for right hand drive (Thanks to Oswald for the advice)

So module info before here

After install go to 08 HVAC module - 04 Basic Settings, then click on/off and wait for a minute or so until it says adaptation OK then the module is coded for the UK, result

Now all the temp control is synced to the drivers side...

Superpro Performance Control Arms update

had these Whiteline ALKs hanging around the garage for about a year and tried to fit twice but had to give up cos I couldn't replace the bushes

so I went and got a pair of these shiny bad boys

The product is well made and a great finish, especially love the stainless tips that fit into the ALK bush, good design that prevents the bush from twisting like the OEM arm and Whiteline versions, should increase life of bushings.

Yeah I know its a bit lazy but saves me a whole lot of hassle.....

The ALKs and bushes alone would be around 200 the whole kit just under 400.

There are loads of threads on the improvement of the front end response, mostly on the golf forums but they translate to the S3. No weight savings I know off but better quality alloy than OEM.

Increased castor angle, more direct steering response tighter feel over standard.

Less wear on bushes to name but a few.

You can just buy the ALKs and bushes if you want the cheaper route

I reckon a garage would charge 2 or 3 hours labour for this which must be 100 quid plus, so for me it works out OK.

Will be selling the Whiteline ALKS, super pro front bushes and S3 arms to compensate so I reckon it's a fair deal

The Superpro kit is excellent quality gear.

Had that on mine for some years now.

So here they are mmmmm....

Bit of a ****** to line up the holes on the rear mount but got there in the end.

First impressions are
the front end feels stiffer and the steering slightly heavier but probably should have been this way from the factory as it always felt a little light.
understeer, what understeer the front is planted and loves corners, grin.
slight bit of extra feel to from the road also bumps and holes more pronounced.

Overall love em. Love mods that you can make a positive difference.

Another 20 miles with the superpro front end and all I can say is DO IT!!! they are awesome. Only problem is my AWD haldex pump has given up the ghost and needs replacing so no AWD

great thread here explains all you need to know by Matt who knows his stuff

http://www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=1496866&p=7875178&hilit=haldex+gen+4#p7875178

Ordered new pump, oil and filter to sort the problem out!

Then we can see how it really handles.

That will be an epic upgrade! I was tempted too, but decided to pause with upgrades for a bit

Wish i could sunday night beer buy hahaha.

Sensible head came back and cancelled controller, save that for another day

The selfish part of me wanted you to get it and review, but fair enough - I'd imagine it's a marginal improvement at the extreme end rather than something you'd feel every time you get in the car :)

just been out on the twisty bits and the superpros with the AWD working are amazing, only when I pushed it really hard round a roundabout did the car understeer a bit, but on the normal bends it was on rails - love it. I also thought the haldex controller could only be removed with the oil out but thats not true, the control valve stays in the haldex body.
