Thundercliffe Daytona/Magma B9 S4 Avant Thread

Range update. After the latest fill up (BP Ultimate) it showed 430 miles :)

It creeps up a little bit each time.
If I get that from my S4 then it will be an improvement on the 400 I get off my oil burner 2015 Q5!! :hubbahubba:

Hmm I get 300 miles (actual) if I'm lucky from my current S4, and that's on the good stuff!

Seriously? That's 100 miles more than my last one. Haha. But today was my first work run (to) and I achieved a healthy 34mpg. Very impressed. So the computer registers the short memory stats and then applies that at each subsequent fill up?

B8.5 I got 430 on my last year of fill ups and a steady 385 actual. Really surprised me.

Well, with a 58 litre tank, that's an overall average of 33mpg. Since my commute to work is a steady 50mph on A roads (even though I really wish I could do it at 90mph) that does pump the range up a bit. I do then look at this as credit to spend being a hooligan on occasion :)

I never go by the display or trip computer as it lies! I've been using the Road trip App since day one, my long term average is 24 mpg over 23.5k miles - but there again we wouldn't be buying 'S' cars if we were overly concerned with economy

Indeed. I had a very uneconomical blast down some B-Roads yesterday. Brilliant fun, it doesn't half shift when encouraged to do so :)

Guys. C'mon...obviously it's not my primary concern haha. It's just been such a contrast today, driving like a gentleman. 82mile round trip and 70miles used. On way back, Spotify to full effect, massage to wave +3 and matrix lights just flooding the roads ahead. I could get very used to this on my commute.

Spotify is playing up a little bit mind you. Have to shut the app down on the phone and restart at times. Must be a signal issue. Says 4g on the MMI screen but nothing loads up. Tiny issue though...

The massage seat will take a bit of getting use to, I must admit, the +3 kneed setting freaked me out a little on my test drive!

Haha! Same. First time I tried +3 it made me jump. But it's died down a bit since. I do like a rough massage though (different forum ).

Hmmmm.

So, car still sounding epic. B&O has bedded in now too.

Few issues I'm noticing.

1. Steering wheel special button not working intermittently. Have to go to drive select car options to reassign.

2. Start up, foot on brake, disengage handbrake, select drive...when I lift off the brake pedal, the car jolts forward quite violently. In a tight space, this could be an issue. Only doing it past week I've noticed. Never happened on B8.5. Thoughts?

3. Grip. Could be the tyres (probably the tyres). Couple of times, chronic understeer has occurred. Nothing to suggest it's a characteristic of the car as, I've caned it on some very demanding roads and the sports diff worked great.

Now, it's been in the wet, I admit. On a roundabout on way to work. The B8.5 catapulted me around this thing. But past two days, with less throttle I might add, it's chucked my alarmingly close to the curb. Had to countersteer. And no...I'm not driving like a lout before anybody suggests.

Anyway, just some observations. It is a very very different car from the B8.5 S4.

Totally agree sound is awesome. My stereo is now almost redundant.

Yes I've had this happen once, don't know why but it didn't reoccur once I'd used the drive select button on the dash. And hasn't happened again since.

Yes this happens to me setting off in a morning. I'm presuming it's due to the higher engine idle when cold start. In my driveway it's been a bit unnerving a couple of times as I'd hit a fence if I haven't got my eye on the ball.

Driving like a lout, now I'd never suggest that

I'm with you on the tyres, I'll not be putting more hankook's on. They have less grip than the contis I previously had on my s3 particularly on greasy roads. They seem good in the dry though.

I think it'll be a set of michelin's or goodyear's when it's time for a change.

Spot on there @Brasso. Greasy is the word I should have used actually for the roads. Not wet. Pilot sports maxx (are they?)were very good last time.

High idle, of course. This is during the day though too. Not just cold start. But, I think I'm going to leave it an extra 15-20 secs and see what happens. Very good point.

So, when the steering wheel button fails, just go to dash buttons instead and that rectifies it? The steering wheel button resumes function?

On 2, is there the same issue if you don't use the handbrake at all - i.e. Just put it in Park.? Sure, there is a bit of potential movement, but I wonder if that is what is wound up in the handbrake when you start, and because you've only released the foot brake after you've released the handbrake is causing the jolt? It will be interesting to see if I see this as I have essentially the same transmission in by current BMW 5 series and our LR discovery and we never use the handbrake in either.

I've not noticed the pull away issue during the day but where I've been parking at work is on a slight upward slope so it probably counteracts it a bit.

The dash buttons seemed to fix it for me. I'll keep an eye on it coming back though.

I'd be looking as the Michelin super sport or Goodyear eagle f1.

I've not driven the car much, back at work, but the wife has commented on the same thing, I thought it was just her not being used to a powerful car. I'll have a play when I get home and see if it's the same!

That's certainly another option. Usually rushing in the morning so, unlike usual, I don't wait until the idle settles down. I did this morning and the jolt wasn't there. So going to repeat that for rest of day and see.

No adverse effects from not using handbrake? Might try that tonight...

I've also had this (mine's not an S4). I found I had to hold down the special button, which brings up the assignment menu. I then had to re-assign it to something else, and then back to drive select.

I know it's still early days, but this is slightly worrying as I had high hopes for the Hankooks!
Maybe the lack of grip is down to the 10mm less width than the B8.5 tyres lol

Yeah true. Could be to make it a little more playful but I doubt it. It was fairly greasy to be fair and having thrashed it in the Lakes in the dry 'and' full on rain, they performed well. Think I'll try something else down the line but the sports diff, chassis and handling are very well put together. Was s minor gripe...

Good evening all.

Searching for the 'parts' section/thread that I seen some guys speaking about a while back. Where can I find it please?

I'm looking at exterior parts for S4 Avant B9 obviously. Things like rear diffuser, front splitter etc...tasteful, subtle mods. I think BMW and Mercedes are leading this in the class.

I'm not talking full on ABT or anything as that's just too pricey for what it is. If you guys know of anywhere, let me know please. I have seen carbon wing mirrors from Raywell design that are very good value and look legit

Cheers.

Do you mean the parts request or parts under classified?
I though parts request was for OEM parts.
Agree, the carbon mirrors look good
