Guess I should introduce myself as I'm new to the S3 world...

I have a couple of other Audis - A B7 Cab and a B5 RS4, but I recently bought an S3 8L as Christmas present for my Mrs. Its a pfl APY in Imola, decent history, sub 100k miles, on FKs (which I have no frame of reference), had all the exterior bits updated to FL, running Rotas, alcantara buckets and a few other bits and pieces.

I dropped it off to MRC to be health checked and it got a little bit torn apart. Dead MAF, N75 knackered, actuator isn't working, turbo has a little thrust play but no sideways movement, timing is out so new cam belt and a few other little treats which I was well pleased with considering I want it all up and running for delivery before Christmas and just to add to the panic, the car is away tomorrow to have five days of detailing done on it too. Awesome timing...

Anyway, I've decided that as the actuator needs doing and the turbo has 3mm of movement up and down, I may as well change the turbo. Was looking at Precision Turbo as they have one ready to go which is what I need! I ordered the V3 Badger5 TIP which is now on the car too. Cambelt, N75 and MAF are on order to be stockpiled while the car is being detailed ready for fitting once it's back.
I also ordered a new centre console, new ashtray and new door pocket cover thingy as that had gone walkabouts too.
Doug or Stu will be bolting all the relevant bits back on when the car gets back to them and then custom mapped on their rollers all nice and ready for when I get a minute to go and pick it up...!!!

Anyway, hello everyone, I"m Nick, I'm fat, rude and a bit of a ****, please don't take offence to anything I say, it's always just banter and I expect the same from you all.

P.S. If anyone on here knows me already, don't tell the Mrs as it's obviously a surprise!

Hi Nick, welcome to audi-sport.net. Hope you enjoy the forum. :)

Welcome buddy, I'm sure your better half will enjoy her present, lucky girl, I think you will be surprised how capable these little cars are with the right mods, might even give your rs4 a bit of a challenge. :)

Thanks Sandra, I'm sure I will :)

Thanks ayfreetee, I'm not going to get pulled into tuning this one much as it'll be driven by Miss Daisy most of the time...! I've got the usual standard "Stage 1" or whatever upgrades on it, Miltek, 3" DP, Badger5 TIP, induction kit etc but that'll probably be it for a fair amount of time. My RS4 is an MRC car and is running 545hp 560lbft so I've got no real need to chase numbers, already fell into that trap a few years ago lol!
The S3 is at MRC too. I know they don't normally look after them but they look after my B5 and B7 so they said they didn't mind doing the S3 for me too so it'll have a custom map on once the MAF, N75 and turbo have been change out for new units.
All that said, I'm looking to having the little beast hanging around fro when I fancy something small to thrash around in!

THQuattro, I would love to post some pics, however, the last paint job on the car was appalling and so it is currently on a five day detailing mission to bring it back to its former glory, before going back to MRC to have the work done and be mapped. Once I have it back in my possession just before Christmas, I'll gladly get some shots and whack them up fro everyone to see. It should be a minter once I get it back.

I have a Welly Cooler for it too but in two minds whether to fit it or not. The problem is that if I do get it fitted, I'll get all custom pipework made and it fitted properly as I hate having anything that looks shoddy in the engine bay. I know I can get a few bits and pieces and fit it myself, but I just don't like doing that unless its custom made furniture made mainly from timber, then, I'm the man lol!

Fmic really needs to be fitted before mapping, to get the best results.

I know this but my time is running out...! lol
It'll have to go backhand have a map tweak once the custom map is done without it.

Pain in the **** but I just am not going to be able to fit it all in in the time I have!!

Blimey MRC Stage 1 Generic Map is pricey isn't it? (and stage 1 predicted gains maybe a little optimistic?)

VAG Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3 Gains

VAG 1.8T K03/K04 £400 £500 +60ps/80nm

I did enjoy watching the video's of their B5 S4 destroying everything else though :)

Stages make no sense to me. My RS4 must be on about stage 5 by now! I just want a custom map that I know will run safe. Uploading a file to a car and then kicking it's head in without knowing what the map is actually doing makes no sense to me. The map is THE most important thing on any car. Admittedly on something this cheap and at this power, it may seem like a waste of money but they are my chosen tuner and that's who I trust with my Audis. I guess everyone has their own tuner? This car is already running 280hp, but on a Superchip. I wanted that removed and a proper map put on for the mods that are already on the car.

They have built most of the best Audis out there. They do an amazing job. Stuart has built me a weapon of an RS4.

I'm just a beginner at this so can really pass much comment on the various stages but from my perspective

stage 1 is just a map (245 ish BHP)
yours is basically the same as mine as I still have a FMIC missing but a stage 2 map (it is supposed to be 280-300) - but it is 265@6K at most based on WHP of 237, but I need an FMIC before weather gets mild. I don't drive it hard for more than a blip - its too flaky.

you might find MRC wont want to map it without an FMIC as the rest of your modifications will welcome the power - I was reading some other forums from 2009 the other day and they were poo-pooing the need for an FMIC on S3 8Ls, its weird though as my Stage 1 map was 20 PSI but the Stage 2 appears only be 21.5psi so how much extra heat is created? - but I think the evidence proves otherwise - especially if you drive slowly in traffic for a few minutes then want to put your foot down.

Hi, welcome, Looking forward to seeing some pics sounds like your mrs is getting a great gift for Christmas

I honestly think though as others has already pointed out those side mount coolers just aren't going to cut it, especially anywhere close to 280hp and will more than likely be the component to hold it back with your custom map (other than internals with that bigger turbo of course )
Would MRC not be willing to fit your Toyo cooler you have before they map it?

Steve

I love a car you can overtake Ferraris with taking an old washing machine in the boot.

Is that negative rear camber on the s3, very nice cars indeed.

Give me a second just need to wipe the drool off my desk quick! Damn

Yep, the S3 came from there, delivered a couple of weeks ago to MRC. It needs a **** load of work done on it to bring it up to my standard, but it should be a very nice car once I've had everything done to it.

The RS4 is running 545/760 on standard KO4 turbos, so it spools very quickly. It has just about every engine mod on it without any head work or taking the bottom end apart. It has just had new KO4's put on and Loba cams which lifted the hp another 10hp on what it was running before. The cams were done because of wear and the turbos were done because I made the mistake of using the Turbo Unit to build me some RS6 hybrids which were insanely crap, so I went back standard to get the day to day drive ability back.
I did a subtle rear bumper mod and had an RS6 rear valence grafted on and twin exit RS6 style exhaust custom built which I really like, but some don't lol!

That's the thing with these cars if not maintained correctly you end up replacing a lot and can become costly but funny enough it's so worth it.. already it doesn't look to bad keen to see progress on this car

RS4 looks so neat really wish we got them in South Africa personally that rs6 style rear looks pretty damn good!

S3 Hilife, sorry, not sure how I missed your post!

MRC can fit it for me although I have a time constraint on getting it back home for Christmas and they don't have the time before the 24th to do it.

I'm not chasing numbers and my Mrs is not a racer so I'm sure the cooling won't be an issue considering the temperature outside for the next couple of months!

Ash, the RS4 is really tidy. I have done a few subtle mods like new wheels (10 x 19" Roti INDs) and the rear bumper but other than the outside is standard (other than decent stoppers!). Lol.
I have changed the interior a couple of times as I bought the B7 RS4 interior but my fat *** struggles to get comfy, so I searched for a long time to find a rare interior called Hi Tec. It's a weird fabric but may he style carbon fibre trim.
I also did an iPad install myself -
If you like a build thread, click the link and enjoy a few minutes reading, it's pic heavy too for those wanting to skim lol!

Tomjol, I love the plate too :)

i love that iPad install!!!

how is it actually hooked up to the rest of the system? did you just hide the OEM stereo?

280bhp on mrc dyno?

IanPG, the build thread has all the connections, but in a nutshell, I have a non-mech head unit mounted mounted in the glovebox which is connected to the iPad via USB. I also (at the time) installed two iPhone 4 docks in the lower centre console which were also connected into the power allowing them to charge whilst driving. The iPad was hardwired so used as an iPod, it was also connected to the internet (wifi only iPad) via a Hotspot on one of the phones. The Phones were also connected via bluetooth to the stereo and I installed a Parrot microphone into the roof light to have handsfree use of the phones.
I extended all of the cables from the switches in the dash centre console and relocated all the switches to the lower centre console. I rebuilt that to incorporate a cupholder under the armrest too.

Tuffty, indeed he is. Rescuing a ****** paint job...!

It certainly is, the man is a wizard around a car. I live the other side of the country but only one person was getting it to put it all right!

So here it is, fresh from Urban Details after a week of TLC.

It is now back at MRC, ready for anew KO4, new MAF. and new N75, then a custom map.
Hopefully go and pick it up as early as possible next week!

That silly tow rope thing will be coming off too, as will the yellow rings on the grill.
New headlights will be fitted tomorrow too.

why do people add those? to pretend they are always on the way home from track days or something.

your car does look immaculate by the way.

how's your posh S3 doing? was it all done in time for Christmas?

Posh S3 lol!

Kind of. I'm not happy at all with the paintwork it's total dogshit.
I got the turbo, n75, B5 TIP, new induction kit, MAF and a map done at MRC, so it's all running well.
Since then, I've bought door rubbers, door cards, centre console, ashtray, door strikers, boot rubber, boot hinge plastics, boot to bumper plastics, rear lights, headlights, engine covers, new tyres, new front Audi rings, b-pillar cover, aerial, sill covers, floor mats, boot struts, front speakers, and just had both door shuts and boot shut painted.

So far it's been a good cheap buy... ******* poxy thing lol!

TBH, it now only needs external paint as everything that had overspray on has been replaced. The door shuts were ***** as they were never painted just rough with overspray, so they've been sorted now.
The FK suspension will be binned off too.

The main thing is the Mrs loves it, and that's why I bought it.

Once I've forgotten about what I've spent on the ******* thing in a year or so, I'll have it stripped and properly painted, then it will be a proper car again.

blimey - lets hope you keep it a while.

so it had been re-sprayed Imola? these 15 year old cars are not expected to be immaculate, but it looked good in the photos. I expect it will be like new in the end and is mechanically sound.

It was always an Imola car. Just had the worst respray ever! Painted by a retarded monkey.

And yeah, it's in the keeper section so it won't be going anywhere. No point selling it as it owes me about six grand so far, and I still need to sort he paint out lol!

Officially my worst buy ever.
