Is it possible to have custom made / buy a free-flowing exhaust system what isn't loud?

My S3 currently has a Pipewerx 3" DP and De-Cat on it, mated upto the standard Audi system. Its pretty quiet apart from a drone at around 3KRPM that disappears either side of it.

Next year I'm wanting to go the hybrid turbo route from Bill, and I know I'll need to get the exhaust sorted.

Thing is, I absolutely cannot stand loud / chavvy exhausts.

What are my options?

Isn't the popular route a non resinating miltek, how can 350+bhp from 4 cylinders ever be quiet when you are enjoying it?

I have the Miltek 2,75" resonated on my S3 with a franken ko4 hybrid (f23), doing around 300hp now, even got a 3" downpipe with 200cell cat.

And I can tell you it is silent! Of course it has a bit more aggressive tone than a standard car, but it is nothing close to droning, when I have windows closed and just cruising on highways etc there is no irritation from exhaust, just pure silence.

So if you want your S3 not to make annoying noise or get a lot attention from people/cops/authorities I can recommend that. For me its too silent, my s3 is a sports car and I want it to be loud as **** to be honest, my Astra g 1,6l 100hp with 2,25" Simons catback and manifold makes more sound... But again, super chill when Im just doing a "normal" ride in my S3 and I dont feel like I need earplugs while driving.

Don't discount a custom made exhaust in stainless steel.

Consider these guys here.

Just had a custom free flow done for my S7, less than half the cost of a Milltek.

For what price? My experience is that anything that is custom..comes with a big price.
Not sure what prices are in other countries but a Miltek is around 700-800 gbp in Norway.
To give a taste of custom made around here, I had a little leak in my dailys exhaust and had it to a exhaust shop, 45 min work and around 200 gbp, and that was no pipe parts just some welding and maybe an exhaust clamp.

miltek are only a tiny bit cheaper than that price here in UK at EURO CAR PARTS
528 non-resonated - louder
568 resonated - quieter

I got my spelling and names around the wrong way. so for £40 you get a quieter exhaust - is it an extra baffle in the centre section?

Well for my S7, which is a long car, so lots of stainless steel, the total cost including fabrication and fitting was under £1000. I did add some custom carbon tips which cost extra. The Milltek is £1800 with black tips (resonated)

I figured the S3 being a lot smaller, would also be a lot cheaper.

That sounds like a winner.

Obviously I am aware that I can never have OEM levels of sound from an aftermarket system, but I certainly don't want loud either.

Are all millteks 2.75"?

The pipewerx de-cat tapers down to 2.5", I'll have to look into a way of making them fit.

Yup, Milteks are 2,75".

My 3" DP also goes down to 2,5" but i reckon it fitted right into the 2,75" with exhaust paste and a clamp over :)

But if you have a welder best would be to cut of the stupid 2,5" pipe part from the DP and weld on a 2,75" pipe instead. If im not all wrong the start on the miltek is a bit larger so a 2,75" pipe will fit right into it.

Thats good to know.

However I'd probably go down the route of getting the pipewerx end flared or modified to accept the milltek system without needing to leave a 2.5" piece in the exhaust.

Just to wrap this thread up I have just got back home after being at Pipewerx today.

I ended up going for the full custom 3" exhaust with extra centre silencer. So I now have a full 3" pipewerx system from the turbo back (with de-cat).

I'm very happy with the result. At idle the car sounds pretty much stock. Its has more of a growl under acceleration but nothing hideous. The drone from 2.5 - 3KRPM has gotten slightly more pronounced, but at 80MPH+ with cruise control on its pretty much silent inside the car. I had 120 miles of motorway driving to experiment with different speeds on the way home.

My **** of the seat dyno is also saying good things, it seems much more eager/happier when under hard load, such as 6th gear full throttle 70 to xxx mph motorway work.

Quality of the work is superb, he showed me many of the different stages of the build and was happy to answer questions.

Cat-back system took around 7.5hours and was £500. The 3"DP and de-cat which I fitted a while ago was £300. So a full 3" system for £800.

I would recommend.
