Ordered... S4 Avant

No car carriers due into Sheerness after tonight until the 10th onwards. If it's not on tonight's, it's very touch and go. I'm approaching an oil change in my B8.5. It 'needs' to hurry up! :joycat:

If my understanding is correct, this changes all the time according to how many cars for Sheerness are waiting at Emden. I would expect at least one ship per day, depending on the size of the ship, so this would not worry me :)

"Oh. Btw, are you guys comfortable with your dealers' preperation and presentation wash? I've seen some howlers paint wise on collection. Unacceptable. I'm tempted to leave my delivery vinyls on until handover. Accept it 'as is' then safe wash when I get up North. Thoughts?

I have asked my dealer not to perform any "contact wash" on request from my detailer. Dealer was a bit reluctant as they want the car to look as shiny as possible for handover but eventually agreed to only use some TFR and give it jet wash.

Protection wise, think I'm going to go Koch Chemie. Ease of application (cure time) and durability is very decent. The gloss is insane. Think the Wheel armour might be the way to go for the Alloys though. I live in the north but buying from Poole (far better deal) so that first caking of grime is gonna be a pain! Oh. I'm doing similar to you - I live in London and am collecting from Cornwall. At least they'll be pretty much run in just from the journey home!

I've asked the dealer to do the minimum prep possible and then I've got a guy doing a new car detail (Liquid Elements Shield) at the dealership before I collect. I won't want to lose it for two days once I've got it home if I have it done after.

Apologies. Dense moment but 'TFR'?

Glad to hear that others are requesting the same. Don't get me wrong, I totally see why they don't want a dirty car on handover. It's not professional. But, just through experience, I've seen some shockers!

God I'm excited haha.

Heard great things about that LES. Look forward to photos of that! And touché...the drive in period will be bye bye very soon! Haha.

I'm on experiment 2 with my B8.5 S4. First coating was CQuartz Finest. Estimated 2 year life. Got 2 years easily, recommended. Sadly picked up various work car park miscellaneous damage. No coating will save that. So now on Kamikaze ISM Coat after correction of defects. I'll see how it goes.

In my opinion the coating can be be epic but you'll still pick up wear and tear that will need fixing so I'm going for a 2-3 year coating.

YMMV. :)

@Thundercliffe81 I asked the dealer to do the minimum prep necessary to assure the warranty. They took me seriously and only jetwashed it to confirm no major paint defects.

@Bristle Hound went further than me and got delivered with wrappings (see his thread).

Dealer knows how picky I am. They have alway prepped my cars well in the past, and have been warned again this time. If it was the summer I'd have the bare minimum done to it and then detail myself but picking up in December and a 4 month old at home it's just not an option.

Thanks @scotty76 much appreciated. If it was summer, I think I'd be very comfortable just asking for delivery stickers to be removed before I turned up. But in transit in the weather Germany and U.K. Has had, it's gonna be pretty sad looking. Think jetwash on collection day might be way to go this time.

I had to look it up too when the dealer mentioned it to me!
Stands for Traffic Film Remover. It is a fairly strong foam cleaner used to get rid of residues accumulated on the paint. You spray it on the paint, leave it for a bit and then rinse it, no wiping required, so no risk of swirls.

With a bit more reading I have found reports that TFR can cause a fish skin effect on paint if not diluted sufficiently or left on for too long. Makes me wonder whether I should insist that he does not to do this either and ask him to only take the stickers off...

Thanks for clearing that up. Just s pre-cleanser then but yes it does need diluting sufficiently. A ph neutral solution should be used too. However, you're right...I think safest bet is to remove stickers and high pressure clean with hot water. Let it run off. Regardless of water spots.

If it's to be detailed within the next few days it's not an issue. That's what I'm doing. Cheers for lending your thoughts on this. Time to sit back patiently and wait now.

In QC now...

Me too, build date today and in fact it seems to have been built and in quality control!

FWIW if anyone is using Cambridge Audi, they did an excellent job of prepping my new A4 Sline Avant. No problems whatsoever (and I checked. A lot.)

Also moved to QC this morning. Here's to seeing a status 30 in the near future!

Dealer made a hot mess of my S3 last time - despite being warned that the car would be detailed straight from pick-up. Got overexcited at handover and didn't challenge at the time and then was rather peeved to put it mildly when I got it to the detailers and could see swirl marks on pretty much every major panel.

Same dealer for the S4 (they were great service-wise, just a let down on prep) so will be giving a very specific stickers off and jet wash only brief, as it will be off for some love with the detailer once again. Probably with a GTechniq CS Black or Crystal Serum coat to help fend off London street living. Dealer has actually changed owners since last time but simply isn't worth the hassle (and disappointment) if someone gets overzealous with the polisher and it looks like it's been attacked with a sander...

Looks like the end of next week for me. No transport order raised to get it to the dealer yet but saying it will be there in 7 working days.

Yeah been stuck there a while buddy. Yourself? Ship got into Sheerness lastnite but no update. Two more due into Emden today and Wednesday. Awaiting their destinations.

Same stage as you - mine left QC on Saturday. I was looking at the African Highway which is about to dock at Emden, then bound for Sheerness. Just wondering what hope we've got of being on that one?

I've think I've read somewhere that dealers can ask for some kind of priority thing that gets it off the boat or onto a transporter quicker - when is the right time to ask for that? Is it once it's on the boat?

Can you see the transport orders online somewhere or do you have to ask the dealer?

Mine still in Emden @Grubb

Just tracking the VAG ships, they are more frequent for northern ports presently. Your dealer still saying there is a backlog?

Yes a backlog. Actually suits me for end of next week. My son will have finished school and I can take him for the pick up. He doesn't know and I'm just going to say we need to pop into Audi. I'll let him do the unveiling. Anything to keep a 11 year old off his xbox for a couple of hours.

Ahhhhhh. Didn't realise AH was Sheerness bound. Then, every possibility of ours getting on that one. Fingers crossed.

Priority/rush wise, I said yesterday on here that, it will very much depend upon customer order queue 'and' their registration preferences. The dealers will probably do everything they can to get whoever 'wants' theirs ASAP at the showroom for Christmas handover, as it all plays into repeat business/customer satisfaction.

So, even if there are 10 cars going to your dealership on the next ship and say, 6, are ahead of yours in the queue...if 4 of them customers want their car registering Jan 1st 2017, it opens up earlier deliveries further down the queue. Just my opinion. Could be wrong. I'm rationalising (can you tell??) haha.

That's good though, found another guy on here at same point of order and delivery port.

Have to ask the dealer - I believe they can raise a priority transport order but not a clue if it makes much difference.

Got it - I haven't pestered the dealer for a while now so I might see if he can prioritise mine, can't hurt I suppose.

Keeping everything crossed for an overnight status update!!

On another note, my dealer has said my B8.5 S4 has to be returned with tyres having no less than 4mm tread. Given that I'm already going to lose some trade in on alloy refurb, I think it's a bit harsh this.

Fair wear and tear surely covers tyres haha.

That is mean!

But I can see they they ask for that, if I was buying a second hand car with less than 4mm thread I would probably ask for a discount :)

Cost offset and all that. I'm getting a great discount on the new one. But it's money out and less money for deposit etc. Grrrr. First world problems. Haha. @pierreluigi88 AH has docked. How do you know it's SH bound?

Did they set that out on any of the paperwork you signed when you ordered/ agreed the trade in?

I not had that with my S3 and it'll be lucky to have 4mm on the tyres.
