Ordered... S4 Avant

Panel Shop for me as well today. Quite useful being the second group on here behind the early-gang as means we can guess at when things will happen now. Predicting Paint shop tomorrow...just sayin :) Just got to navigate QC - hopefully like Brasso and not some of those that have been in for a fortnight!

Its all quite interesting watching this. The dealer had ordered me a second car as they were not sure if the first would be able to be changed. It went through at the same time as my proper build but is still stuck in qc.

When i check the detail, the order status is still 20 so its not actually been built yet!

That's awesome. What port? How long from leaving factory to U.K. port?
Now I have received an email from Audi UK to say...............................
It's on the ship! :blahblah1:

Well. My status of left the factory on the train was two days ago. Just got the email saying that this morning though. Probably just a bit behind is all.

Oh I'll be taking the original. Toy cars are supposed to be exactly the same spec. Well assuming it's been built right.

It's still at Grimsby waiting for a Car Transporter.

But paperwork at the dealers tomorrow.

I had the same thought about the RS3 Sportback earlier this year, then they stopped making them not realising the limited production run and so I waited for something a bit less bonkers to come up. The S4 Avant is much more classy, I think.

I couldn't agree more. I was watching the bonkers RS3 thread on here for months. But the interior is miles off the S4. And the S4 is just more useable. That 5 pot though...wow!

Paint shop this morning!!

Me, too. They are rubbing them down with Emu feathers as we speak...

I got a call from the dealer, who had finally taken delivery of their first showroom S4, and popped across to take a look at it. Not on the road yet, so just got to check out the Carbon Inlays (very nice), leather interior (very nice) and Virtual Cockpit (very nice)! My daughter really liked the blue interior lighting, even in the daytime! The subtle lighting around the door pulls looks cool.

They did offer it to me, but I prefer to wait for my personalized spec, so if anyone is desperate for a Navarra blue S4 Avant it is for sale!

I think the code is something like AKZRDDYX

Audi S4 Avant, Navarra Blue, metallic, Black interior
Quattro with sports diff
Rear view camera
Red brake calipers
19x8.5J 5-Vspoke titanium alloys
Electric fr seats, driver mem
Hill hold assist
Privacy glass side&rear window
Light & Vision Pack
Dynamic steering
3-spk mf-sw flat-bottom
Panoramic glass sunroof
Inlays, Carbon Atlas
Ext mirr, elec/fold/heat/memory
Audi Virtual Cockpit
Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound System
Audi Phone box/wireless charge

I think they will register it as a demo if it doesn't sell this month, so may get a drive in a few weeks.

They also had an S5 Sportback which looked lovely, but the back seats looked claustrophobic so I don't regret going with the S4 Avant.

Great to know Geoff. Good report. The S5 has hugely grown on me. The sportback is stunning IMO but you're right, the S4 Avant...cannot wait. Might pop out this weekend and see who's got one!!

I had an update from my salesman today. It got into the port on Wednesday but does not have a transport order yet. He says he will know on Monday when it will be at the dealer.

Excellent news @Grubb you excited?? Fingers crossed for my delivery before Christmas. Seems plausible. It's at port in Germany now. Yours flew through the process. You pay a bigger deposit? Eh?! :tongueout:

Definitely ordering these in time. Look great with Daytona Grey I think. £250 for a pair. Not too bad. Think it's £375.00 from Audi?

Same here. Stage 5 unlocked yesterday. Definitely not waiting until March!

Hoping for about 3-4 days in QC this week and then out the door and on a boat

Ditto Assembly, ditto not waiting as it would be an awesome Christmas present :)

I got a bit carried away on the Marine Traffic website looking out for various 'Highway' named ships (How do you know which ship your car is on?). They are easy to spot as the route from Emden to Grimsby is pretty much directly westward and they have a pale green icon. There are a huge number of cars unloaded at the docks there you can them and the transports clear as day.

I'm scouring the site too. One due in at Sheerness tonight and I'm crossing everything!! Dealer said be lucky to get it for Christmas though. Hope eternal. Be great if Audi said which ship but stepping into security issues there I guess.

Mine started showing Status 30 on the same day as yours and my dealer told me that if I'm lucky I could have it this coming weekend!

Mine is going to Grimsby and tracker was showing status 39 on Saturday. The only vehicle carrier departing from Emden for Grimsby on Friday, African Highway, has now been unloaded at Grimsby and is about to return to Emden. I'm hoping that yourAudi will show status 40 when it updates again at 1:30(ish).

Dealer told me that there is a bit of a backlog at Grimsby at the moment so 7-9 days from transport order request to collection would be normal, but that sometimes they can fast track cars through the system, and that he'd try to do this for me (probably so that I stop pestering him...). If he succeeds I could collect the car on Saturday the 10th. If he does not, a week on Wednesday :)

Mine will be 7 days from arriving a Grimsby to getting to the dealers. I could have picked it up on Thursday this week but I opted for the weekend so I can take some time looking at it in daylight. Now booked in for a full detail on 19th.

You are quite patient, I would have been there on Thursday like a hawk :wink new:

Dealer's test S5 in Navarra blue arrived earlier this week so he sent me a couple of pictures and a presentation video and it looks stunning.

I'm thinking of getting the car detailed and getting Gtechniq CS Black protection because mine will sleep in the streets, so the paint will be exposed to the elements 24/7. Are you getting any form of protection?

Regarding picking up before Christmas, at New Year or start of March, I thought I'd try and get an idea of the true cost, i.e. the difference in the value of the car depending on when it is registered.

Of course, it depends on how long you keep it, certainly the sooner you sell it the larger the absolute value difference.

I looked up a quick valuation of a 5 year old S4 registered

2011 '61' - 16,000
2012 '61' - 16,300
2012 '12' - 16,650

and also a 4 year old S4 registered

2012 '62' - 16,950
2013 '62' - 17,400

I guess a 3 year old one would be a similar percentage, but slightly larger gross amount.

I should really refer to the values in January and March for the latter registrations, as the cars would then be the same age as the December cars are now.

But perhaps a good guess is around £500 to have it before March and another £500 before New Year if you keep 3-4 years?

Around 1% of the new price?

I wouldn't pay that to have it a few weeks before New Year, but maybe worth it for a couple of months if early January?

Of course, our current cars will not be free to run for another two months, they will continue to depreciate slightly.

Dealers are sometimes very keen to register cars before the end of December, may be able to negotiate a better PX if they are?

I've got a couple of long work drives this week so happy to put few more miles on my S3 before giving it back particularly with all the crud on the roads given it'll be unprotected until 19th.

It'll be having full protection inside and out. Going with CS Black, C5 Wheel armour, glass protection etc etc.

Car lives outside too. I've had good results with gtechniq in the past. I'd normally do it myself but this time of year the curing is a problem without somewhere to keep it warm overnight.

They might also not want to keep your car for another 2 months as they need somewhere to park it. If their 20 customers per week from mid-December onwards want their cars on the 1st of March they will need to find 100 parking spaces...
I have unfortunately written-off my Golf R in August and have been living with on/off hire cars since then. I would only consider waiting until March if the car arrived at the dealer in the second half of Feb.

If I was in your position, I would certainly not wait more than a week or two!

Since I have a decent car, I think I will wait until March, unless it is available very early January, when I might be tempted! :racer:

I see I see...

Grimsby deliveries seem more frequent, that's for sure. Maybe adding to that backlog. Some people, more than others, would want to wait to register (as you've been discussing here) so might open the door for fast tracking to Christmas?

I think my dealer is just giving me realistic time frames so I'm not disappointed. But certainly, on paper, 3 weeks is ample time to get from Emden to Poole. I'm clueless as to when the Christmas close down is though. That's the monkey wrench...

No car carriers due into Sheerness after tonight until the 10th onwards. If it's not on tonight's, it's very touch and go. I'm approaching an oil change in my B8.5. It 'needs' to hurry up! :joycat:

Protection wise, think I'm going to go Koch Chemie. Ease of application (cure time) and durability is very decent. The gloss is insane. Think the Wheel armour might be the way to go for the Alloys though. I live in the north but buying from Poole (far better deal) so that first caking of grime is gonna be a pain! Oh. Btw, are you guys comfortable with your dealers' preperation and presentation wash? I've seen some howlers paint wise on collection. Unacceptable. I'm tempted to leave my delivery vinyls on until handover. Accept it 'as is' then safe wash when I get up North.

Thoughts?
