B9 A4/S4 - Little Surprises

If I had a foot that light up green when I was reversing I'd be worried ;-)

Can you explain that remark please. I can't tell if it's meant seriously or just messing about.
The "all weather lights" will light up when you put the car in reverse(well they do on mine), it reminded me of the Seat Leon where the fog lights/cornering lights would come on when selecting reverse.

In the UK the Android app is called Audi MMI connect. It provides an Android watch face with a red sweeping second hand that leaves a fading trail behind it.
Thank you. I got the app on my phone here (USA) but it seems I have to go to the dealership and verify my details for it to work (inputting my vin no and details is just not enough apparently). The nearest dealer is an hour away. The app doesn't look like it's worth enough for me at the moment.

Noticed on mine today they the vanity light only turns on if the sun visor is orientated so you can see the mirror.

You're quite right! Put mine in reverse a couple of nights ago on the driveway and I could see the additional width that the all weather lights add to the headlight beam. Now why is that? It's not as though you look forward when reversing!

If the boot is up and you kick under the car (obvs if you have the option to kick to open), the car beeps similar to a reversing van, the boot closes and the car locks.

Our Avant doesn't have the Convenience Key option but have tested out and can confirm what someone mentioned, that when in P with ignition on if you open the boot from the switch in the drivers door, you can then use the same switch but hold it for a few seconds, it then emits a few warning beeps and then the boot closes - have found it really useful when dropping people off in a rush at train station and I'm not actually getting out of the car.

Really? This is perfect. One pet peeve on the B8.5 was people leabing the parcel tray up and closing my boot! Haha. Glad Audi automated that.

Yep works a treat - wish I'd have known earlier about it, and agree totally about the parcel tray / cover on B8.5 Avant, a good friend has one as his company driver (and will have for another 2yrs yet) it's his pet hate and he's gutted that on our B9 its automated :sunglasses:

Seeing the new S4's coming thro' I've noticed that the B9 seats 'only have the 'S' on as opposed to the 'S4' on the B8.5's
Pic of my B8.5 S4 standard alcantara/leather seat back

However, the new B9 S4 standard seats are, WOW ! :hubbahubba:

Exact same seats as my old S4 Lot of chat about this on the reviews. For me, it's not so much the 'S' or just 'RS'.

I can see the marketing/money saving in that. It's more the S Line having the same 'S' on various parts of them. Should have said S Line. But it 'is' nitpicking. The S Sports seats being standard are just an absolute gift.

I'd totally agree with that. The seats are superb.

But if Audi soon aren't offering them across the range as an option they are missing a trick IMO

I've noticed that all the internal logos, seats, steering wheel badge etc are now just 'S' and not 'S4'
Does look like a cost saving not making them model specific, bet the seats are the same for S5!
Not really a problem as long as the seats are good. But does look a little like the stand at S line logo.

Have the paddle shifters gone back to the smaller size?
I much prefer the B8.5 larger ones.
Haven't seen them on any photos yet

Black and quite small yeah. It's all Branding bud. Lending the exclusivity to RS models. New Audi Sport CEO talks about it a bit in interviews. The RS4 is going to be a weapon. But I'm loving my new S4 Avant. Big improvement on last gen.

I took a first look at my new S4 today, and took a few quick snaps with the phone.

I ordered the heated steering wheel and noticed on the photos that the button for the heating replaces the multi-function (star) button, which I thought I had read elsewhere and is a shame, as I had planned to put the drive select on the programmable button. I'll look in the manual to see if it really is the case that you lose the programmable button if you have the heated wheel.

That's a weird trade off I've got Drive select assigned to my 'special button' (that's what she said...) hopefully you get a workaround.

I guess they can't put more buttons where buttons will not fit, plus it is probably more cost effective that way.

Little surprise but my own fault. Parked, got out of the car, took my laptop out of the boot and it started moving slowly backwards. Hadn't put the handbrake on. Managed to dive in and catch it fortunately.

Presumably you have a manual gearbox Col. S tronic automatically puts itself in Park when you switch off and that is the same as leaving a manual car in gear. With my manual cars I've always left them in gear as well as handbrake on. It was something my Dad insisted on when I drove his car and it kind of became a habit.

Yep, manual gearbox. Not something I've ever done before, but suppose I got used to it going on automatically after driving the wife's Golf for a couple of days.

Used to be that you'd go back to the car to check it was locked. Now its - did I remember to put the handbrake on! Doesn't help that the little red led is only on when the door is opened too.

I like the fact that the sound system remembers the previous state when starting up. In previous Audis it always turned back on at startup. Now? Silence. Bliss :)

When in manual mode on the tiptronic box and you press park, it moves the gear selector back over automatically.

My a3 manual used to put on the handbrake as soon as you opened the door, but you had the be wearing the selt belt. At least that's how I remember it but I am sure owners of the a4 have posted up the same..

The USB sockets in compartment under the arm rest are illuminated, which looks cool in the dark!

I have the manual A4 and mine applies the handbrake when I switch the car off.

One I take for granted but the way when you select reverse the car automatically wipes the rear window for you :sunglasses:

How with Matrix LEDs automatically disable the main beam when approaching an area with street lighting. Clever that. Though it might be a feature all light systems have now?

Yep the main beam assist does that on the LED lights too

I think it can be dependent upon three things as well, speed, the sat nav and road lighting...

After driving 8700 miles with Drive Select in "Auto" mode, I've switched to "Dynamic". MPG hasn't changed on my regular 25 mile commute (50ish mpg), but the car is much more responsive to drive.

Petrol or Diesel?

Ok just an update because I have been working with this. My loan car has a manual gearbox but it doesn't put on the handbrake automatically at all under any circumstances. I think the common denominator might be hill hold assist as my A3 also had that. Of course I could be wrong through..
