Got this message today and Google Maps wouldn't turn on. Anyone else had this...?

No, it'll just be you. It's definitely broken*... ;-)

* or the myaudi server was down, which is bound to happen occasionally.

You mean the service level agreement doesn't state 99.99% uptime? ;)

I've had that pop up a couple of times. I assumed the inbuilt sim must have had no signal?

I think there was an issue with the Google Maps servers yesterday as mine did exactly the same and I had to use standard maps last night.

This morning it was the same, but it has now logged in fine and I have Google Maps...

Which leads me to my next question:

What date is the expiry for people's Google Maps? Mine seem to run out at the end of 2016 and I setup a myAudi account thinking this will update the end date but it is the same. I read somewhere that the maps are free use for three years and all you need to do is to provide a data-Sim. Does the licence date auto-renew at the end of the year?

It's happened a few times to me. The old switch it off then on again has usually fixed the issue

Actually happened today but I didn't have a chance to stop so I just had to deal with the normal maps

Having read this I thought I would try and switch on my google maps on the VC.

I was asked on the pop up screen to accept the data terms and conditions. I accepted then was told there was no SIM card inserted. Strange coz I've used google maps in the past. I've tried a number of times and get the same message.

My car does have a SIM card but I can't get anything to work now.

If you look at my pic above, it show the signal strength for the embedded sim, which was pretty strong. It just seemed to be that myAudi server was not accepting the connection.

Do you get any signal strength on the display?

Did it again on the way home so guess they are doing something with the servers as it was fine at lunchtime.

Lets see whst tomorrow brings....

Mine done the same yesterday evening , I think the countryside gobbles up the signal

Fine this morning.

It has to be the servers as even with full signal mine was not connecting correctly.

Have asked Audi about the licence for Google Maps as mine runs out in December and I am not interested in all the connect services and have read that you just need a data sim to use the service.

Will see what they say.

I was driving today and could see any signal strength. I opened up connect. It asked me to accept the data T&C's. It then said no SIM was entered and to insert one. Got a bit pi$$ed off. Pulled in. Switched car off and on again. Tried connect again and this time same again but just as I clicked accept the 3G signal kicked in. Only then would google maps load on VC. Up until that point google was selected but would display. Does the SIM not connect automatically? Because I can't be pulling in everything to reboot the System and SIM.

When mine did it I also went into the Connection Manager and tried changing settings there, but made no difference. Sometimes Google maps show quickly when you start up and drive off, other times there can be a delay, but only had this issue of no Google Maps once.

It did it again this evening so I guess it is the servers as it was fine all of last week.

Will contact Audi if this goes on much longer.

That's interesting. I was out tonight but was heading back home about 7pm. For about 2 minutes after getting in the car and driving off, it showed the normal maps before flashing over to Google images.

I've had a similar problem a few times in the past couple of years but when I checked, my SIM had ejected itself slightly in the glovebox. Couldn't have been me now could it ..... Anyway once I'd pushed it back in all was OK.
