S3 wheelspin

I just got alot of wheelspin today racing a challenger off a junction was actually slidding alot going around corners mind you i was at 80/100 on wee country roads

Was shocked that the s3 was quicker off the line but he had far more power 70+

Would've thought the 'challenger' had much more than 70+ bhp....:whistle2:

I'm back in the 4WD club again definitely a huge difference you can feel yourself being pushed in the back. No idea what happened or how long it's not been working for but if your front end lifts when pulling away or you have wheelspin then best get the car looked at.

Great news mate!..........Now go and get your motor dyno'd......
ps Can't wait for my pump to be replaced...Will be interesting to see if it's made any difference to wheel spin??

I still can't make my mind up if the 4 wheel drive is working or not, sometimes when I floor it the esp light flashes lots and it feels like the more is wheelspin, other times it's off like a rocket. I'll have to phone my local dealer and ask if they had to pull a fuse to do the MOT or if they might have done something when I had the haldex oil changed at the service a couple of months ago. I hadn't noticed any issues before that. Typical it has happened after the warranty has expired!

Get someone with vcds to give it a once over or take it to your dealers..Probably nothing but you never know...

Funny you should say that, I was only wondering over the weekend whether it would throw up any messages of there was an issue - what do you think?

Don't know anyone with vcds unfortunately.

Out of interest, does anyone know whether it's necessary to pull a fuse on the haldex to do the MOT? I used to have a Golf R32 and I'm sure on that forum I read that at some point. Or, could something have occurred when Audi changed the haldex oil at service?

It might all be my imagination, but the dealer where I had the work done is a PITA to get the car to when I'm working.

VCDS will definitely help identify the problem.

Fuse F44 in the engine bay is for the four wheel drive. I believe there may also be some sort of 2 wheel drive dyno mode available in VCDS too.

Yes, it's s-tronic. I think all told I'd prefer to have all four wheels working! I had the opportunity tonight on a quiet road to nail it from standstill and got wheelspin through first and second gears - I stopped accelerating at that point. Something definitely seems amiss. Typical it's a month since the warranty expired, suspect it may lighten my pocket getting it sorted.

Sounds a bit like how mine was mate, anyone nearby able to do a VCDS scan on it ?

Edit: sorry asked that in an earlier post. Sounds like a trip to a garage, try an independent VAG specialist if out of warranty.

Same with my car mate...I didn't stop accelerating though and the traction control light flashed all the way thru to at least fourth gear...I can replicate this almost on any road surface so ruled out slippery conditions...I mentioned this to my dealer when it went in and they have booked my car in on the 11th to have the haldex pump replaced(newest revision) and oil replaced...
If I was you I would still get Audi to sort it out free of charge being just one month out of warranty shouldn't be an issue...As I have stated in another thread get Audi UK involved if your dealer doesn't play ball..:friends:

What is the ratio that the s3 quattro works? I ready 70% to the front then its altered for better traction after that is that true?

Ive had the rear end slide out in the wet a few times but no where near subbie levels especially with the ability to play with the centre diff

I'm getting wheel spin most of the times, and unsure if it was due to crud on the road!

But, its also started handling like crap, it feels very very vague and doesn't grip anywhere near as good as it used too / understeers a lot more too.

I have spoken with my dealer today and am going to take it in on Saturday to have a mechanic come out for a ride so I can show them the issue. Hopefully it will either confirm there is an issue or put my mind at rest.

As for it being out of warranty if there is an issue I will have to see what happens, but I wont hold out much hope. my first ln was to tell them it was OK before they had it in there, and after that it will be pushing the goodwill angle - my old man bought it from that dealer and it has always been serviced/maintained there.

With the warranty having expired I don't suppose they can keep giving repairs for free, but it is only a month out of warranty and it has only done 22k miles so it is far from high mileage.

Update......
Took it in this evening to get haldex pump fitted...I asked a couple of days ago if they could give me a TTS as a courtesy car?..........Well...............

alf.jpg

They weren't willing to tax a car for me to have for only a couple of days max....Very disappointed really..
They have given me a new Q5 S Line auto diesel...As way of an apology they are going to give my car a full interior and exterior valet....Not sure if that's an apology or a p*ss take to be honest...lol
Anyway will give details whether the new pump has solved the wheelspin issues?
@Rob2k68 I have asked for as much info on the pump rev. and anything else worth noting. Will let you know...
Your car behaving itself now? Surely it's due a dyno run by now...lol

You were right @Rob2k68 ...... ****** one hell of a difference!
I think my car was faulty for a long time...After picking it up last night I gave it a good 50 mile run...What a difference when pressing hard on the 'loud' pedal no sign at all of the traction control light flashing like mad...:yahoo:
I feel launch control coming on lol..:rockwoot:
I asked again on part number for the pump and for some reason they wouldn't (not allowed?) tell me..:wtf:
The car was given a full valet as promised and to be fair they have done a good job..
They even left a little gift inside which I thought was a nice touch..Peckham Springs water I think...lol
and a tin of sweets:yum:

Plus I had a loan of a Q5 for a couple of days which I thought was a nice car ...Very comfy compared to my S3?
DSC 0144 2

To all that is interested North Wales Audi have at the moment a TTRS which has come in for another Audi garage?? Not sure why?
Had a look around it but was pointless to take pics as it was in all it's wrapping. Can tell you it was in Era Blue (very nice colour ) .The salesman told me it was over £60k but for some reason the new owner didn't spec Carbon brakes which he thought was a mistake...Anyway some lucky ****** has one of the few which is coming to this country...:respekt:

This is interesting!

I took my to my local dealer for them to have a look a couple of weeks ago. They put it on a ramp and all 4 wheels were turning so their immediate reaction was that there is nothing wrong. After a bit of persistence the guy off the service desk came out with me and I showed him the issue, wheelspin and traction control light lit up like a Christmas tree in the dry. Guy says it's not right, book it in for a couple of days. No courtesy car as if I wanted one I'd have had to wait over a month - wtf!

I took it in on Thursday, took a technician out when I dropped it off and he said he thought it was right, it should wheelspin and traction control light should be on. They called just after lunch, day 1, it's ready for collection. Get there and apparently they have done the diagnostics and it's fine, no fault codes etc and they couldn't find anything wrong.

Ended up with an agreement that they would get a same spec in and I'll have to go back to have a go in that to see if it does the same thing. They were going to call on Friday to arrange me going over but surprise surprise no call.

I'm convinced mine isn't right, I've had loads of wheelspin today and not just from a standstill with my foot planted.

Not sure where to go from here!

Stick your heels in mate..Easily said I know but if you stand your ground and tell them that you are of the opinion there is a fault and if you don't do anything about it I will be in touch with Audi UK..
I am lucky that I have a good relationship with my local dealer but I could imagine there are a few dealerships who don't give a 'rat's ars* about their customers.. Good luck mate and don't give up till you are satisfied with your car..:friends:

Sounds a lot like what mine was doing - my rear wheels were turning (when on a 4WD dyno) so I was like you under the impression that all was well but wheelspinning and T/C light says otherwise. Now it's fixed with 30% wide open throttle away from the lights no w/s at all it just hooks up and goes and I'm stage 2 tuned.

Stick your heels in mate..Easily said I know but if you stand your ground and tell them that you are of the opinion there is a fault and if you don't do anything about it I will be in touch with Audi UK..

This test is meaningless. Of course the rear wheels will turn, the drag in the coupling will see to that. The test is how much load they're transmitting, and on the ramp with all four wheels in the air, they're transmitting zero load.

Haldex spitting out error codes on the dyno so may well go some way to explain my wheel spin issues.

Booked in tomorrow to have a Haldex repair kit fitted then hopefully another dyno run.
How much it the repair kit??

I haven't experienced any wheel spin at all when pulling away very quickly (and not using Launch Control).

When using Launch Control and it's damp outside but not too cold I have no obvious wheel spin. When it's very cold and wet and the roads have been gritted I have had 4 wheels spinning for a moment until it sorts itself out and then it takes off.

I'd try it on a dry, diesel free road with a decent surface and if your TC lights start blinking like mad there's definitely an issue.

Just got my s3 back from service, asked them to check 4 wheel drive as front was spinning at 70 if I floored it and would spin all way up gears .
Had it on computer and ran ecu test which showed no faults but mechanic ran haldex pump diagnostics and that came back with a fault saying new pump and oil needed.
Price to change was 391.07 fitted but mechanic said try changing filter and oil before getting pump as they don't do filter.
Filter ordered so ill keep you posted on the outcome .

This is what was fitted to mine :-

It was £183 + VAT + fitting and was done by an independent VAG garage.

Also worth enquiring about the 'new and improved' pump as fitted to the facelift cars @pburv just had one fitted to his S3.
