So when the 8v finally arrives I will be throwing some toys into this one that never got round too in the 8p...

I'm looking for parts now so can just put them all on as soon as it's ready so I'm looking at brake kits!!

After weeks research I've found out that the rs3 370mm disc won't fit unless I change the hub etc...so I have ben told that the rsq5 365 disc to go with 8 pot callipers will...will rs6 callipers fit?

Any more advice will be greatly appreciated in advance people

I was basically just hoping that 8v rs3 kit would fit so could just do a straight switch but apparently not

Don't Ye think you should see what the brakes are like before you change them, if anything just get a set of good pads and discs

Quite. Unless you're one of the guys wringing mental amounts of power out of the engine, the brakes are probably just fine, and some driver training would be money better spent.

There's another recent thread on the subject of difficulties in retaining proper brake bias etc. that would be worth a read;

Perhaps something like this would be a decent upgrade? Not having driven the TTRS i couldnt tell you how it would compare to the S3 - I agree with the above though, perhaps a decent disc/pad upgrade would be more cost effective unless youre planning some major performance enhancements. Of course, I dont supposeit would be 'too difficult' to have some brakets fabricated to fit some crazy calipers, RS6 would be amazing but i doubt youd get the clearance around the rims - plus the disc/caliper/pad combo would likely prove cost inefficient?

Good luck,

Very happy with my ECS discs, stainless lines and Castrol React performance dot 4 fluid :-

I want a big (er) break kit than my rear drums. How much would it cost roughtly? I've seen some RS3 break kits can cost anything up to £800.

Some misplaced terminology that's confusing here.

1/Brake, not break. Two very different things ;-)

2/ Drums? Really? I thought all A3 had 4 wheel discs?

Answer to everyone is YES I am planning some big enhancements to the engine...one thing being a hybrid...so that is why I asked the Q...thank you for all answers tho.

Regarding rear brakes I will be just upgrading disc and pads as there isn't much more I can do to the rears :(

Well, you may throw out the braking bias by having huuuuge brakes up front and the standards on the rear, I certainly did on my previous car - made for a few interesting moments! Slightly off topic but do you have a peak power figure in mind? If so, worth having a look at some of the project cars on here and seeing what they've done as a baseline.

Good luck with the project though!

Touching 500bhp with plans...I know what parts will be getting for performance and power...in sorced a set of tarot discs and ferodo pads for the rear as after talking to another member on here has recommend them.

Cheers tho mate will get a build post sorted when I have everything...

I have to say, the standard brakes in my A3 are very good. A huge improvement from my Honda Civics.

How much did these set you back @Rob2k68

A fair bit mate £1,100 including lines but much better bite, modulation and pedal feel - and that's front and rear to be fair. Actually a fair bit cheaper than some BBKs out there, doesn't effect front/rear brake bias, no dodgy clearance to the wheel (can still get in there with a washmitt LoL), uses existing disc backing plates and a 2.4kg weight save at each front corner (1.6kg rear if I remember correctly) so the suspension has better small bump compliance due to the reduction in unsprung mass.
