What S3 offers have people had?

Hopefully. I'm in no rush to change so happy to wait for the right offer to come along. Once thing I did just notice was that the optional final payment on the Audi finance calculator is much more generous than what the dealer had on the finance quote. Differed by around £2k, and the dealer quote had the options on! Am I right to assume that the dealer GFV will be more accurate that what's published on the Audi website?

Indeed. +£2K is probably a more accurate prediction of the trade in price, as they typically underestimate them to give you equity at the end for a new deal. Of course, rather than get £2k back at the end, you are just saving £2k over the course of the finance agreement. Swings and roundabouts...

Options on BMW's car do actually have a small effect on the GFV. Not with Audi though.

I'm learning all the time....Hopefully next time I go down the PCP route I will be a little more prepared as I'm sure knowing what I know now I would've 'wangled' a better deal...:readit:

ALWAYS....better deals when dealerships have current stock...anyone considering a face lift.....should wait...for a 17 plater.....factory builds just now will carry a low discount....direct from a dealers, personally l would'nt go anywhere near a car unless 9/10% discount was on the table......l would always buy a car from a showroom rather have it delivered on a truck from a vendor....for the sake of 1/2% better discount

Also keep my eye on the Audi deposit contribution on their finance calculator. I managed 16% on an A3, but only 12% on a S3 when I looked couple of months back. That was mainly because there was £2400 contribution on the A3, but just £600 (or something like that) on the S3. Now I see the S3 also has £2400 contribution :)

Indeedy mate...........which leads me to a question, slightly off topic but hopefully not completely irrelevant!

Do those who regularly check prices on other models reckon discounts are likely higher on more expensive models or pretty much standard across the board?

For example I got 10% off my local dealer after going in armed with 12% off Carwow from Coventry Audi. I could however have got 14% off an S5. Do ye all think that higher discounts are only likely off older models Audi are trying to shift or is say 15% doable on like an RS, if not FL maybe PFL??

I nearly did. Considering the contribution has gone up it should be closer to the A3 now...

I've decided not to go new for my next car though...it's a toss up between a used S3, a used M235i, or just buying my S5 outright.

I reckon it's just relative to the cost of the car..the bigger models always have much higher discounts. When did you get that quote for the S5 though? 20% off a stock S5 is about the going rate at the moment....(no longer doing factory orders).

The RS is tricky. The RS3 seems to be selling fine without any discount, but you can get silly money off an RS6...Audi contribution is like £10k...

It was last April when I was looking for mine. Maybe I could have got more I wasn't really looking for an S5 at the time although I do like them.

Oh OK. Nah that is about right. Ordered mine in Sept and got about 18%.

Finance wise, it was very similar money to an S3 SB. Saloon was a bit more (newer so less discount) and hatch was probably cheaper.

I could rekindle some of veeeight's magic and bang on about how it's got 'proper Torsen quattro' and a 'proper V6', but the S3 is very similar performance wise, possibly even quicker due to the weight difference, and much better running costs wise being 2lt. I would happily have either.

Of course I think the S5 looks the cats pyjamas, but thats such a subjective thing...

I used to work at the dealers. That 17% includes the £2500 contribution for the hatchback though. It was 12.5% without contributions.

Haha they wouldn't give me anything on the ttrs I don't think! It's worth an ask though!:whistle2:

What is confusing me (haven't signed finance docs as this is bugging me) is how the interest is calculated specifically on a PCP deal.

By reverse engineering the numbers i'm calculating i'm getting £5,537 on interest. Comparing to bank loans i'm obviously aware this is high, but I just don't understand how the interest is calculated on a PCP (although it looks flat rate anyway). Is the balloon calculated with one interest rate/method and the remainder a different way?

Is that a 4 year pcp? That's quite a lot of interest to be paying back. Pretty sure the interest is just calculated on the "balance to finance"...?

Yeah 4 year PCP mate.

Balance to finance is 32902 and with a 5.5% IR / 5.6% APR that just doesn't stack up. Hesitant to sign unless I actually know what's going on, even though it's probably nothing sinister

Would agree, probably nothing sinister, and interest amount is explained by your 4 year pcp. Are there any online pcp calculators where you can put in variables such as APR, agreement length, final payment and it works out the rest...?

Yeah I tried just that, comes out pretty much aligned with the finance docs with a very minor variance. How it gets to the same figures is beyond me, god knows what mathematical wizardry is being used haha - I don't find the finance docs very clear to be honest, especially when comparing to personal loans I used to fund previous cars.

Its because of the balloon payment. The GFV is £16700 on the S3 Saloon after 4yrs. You are effectively paying for a personal loan of (32902-16700= )£16202, but you are paying interest on the balloon payment as well. So while the monthly costs are lower, the amount of interest is much higher.

A personal loan on the whole amount is different as the amount owed will reduce each year on the full balance, whereas on the PCP, only half the balance will reduce over the same term. Therefore less interest on a personal loan. Most of your monthly payment on a PCP is interest...

Thanks for flagging that. Never doubted I would be paying interest on the balloon as its money being borrowed regardless. Forgot to factor in the balloon balance remains a constant so it's a consistent level on interest - different calculation to be factored in. Cheers!

Note that on S3 Sportback they moved from £1000 contrib with 6.8% APR to £900 contrib with 6.7% APR.

No problem :)

You can start to see why PCPs are popular with car manufacturers when you see how much interest they earn from them!

My first years payments over half of it was on interest alone, this year's won't be much better, after this March the amount of interest will diminish though

Based on the low monthly payment and format of the post I am going to hazard a guess that it is a 9+23 lease.

I am £990 initial payment, £330 a month over 2 years for a Daytona Grey S Tronic with privacy glass based on 8k per year.
