8V VCDS Mods

This happened to my car when it went in to get the Nav activated. They did a software update that wiped my mods so I had to redo them when I got home.

But...when the car was in to get the headlight level adjusted my mods were untouched even though the car needed to be hooked up to their machine to calibrate.

Mines in for a service tomorrow. Seems a bit hit and miss as to whether it gets wiped or not. I've left all my VCDS mods on so be interesting what it comes back with.

If it's a routine Service (Oil or Inspection), I doubt it will get wiped, it's only if it gets hooked up to VAS/ODIS AND they have diagnostic fault finding work to do, will they reset that particular ECU.

What does this actually do? flaps in the exhaust or some cabin engine noises?

If it's just the exhaust, how and at what points does it change the noise? idle, at gear change or everything?

This is an exhaust mod which disables the "flap" control so that they remain open 100% of the time and affect all "noises". Cabin noise is a different thing as the S3 has a sound actuator module and dedicated speaker. Not 100% sure if much change be adjusted on this bar disabling it.

Yes, you can vary the % on the Soundaktor, Module A9 Struct. Borne SoundAdaptation 10
Set percentage 0 to 100 % (it's on 100% by default)

Having just disabled stop/start using VCDS it still shows up on the DIS as if it's active. Obviously it doesn't stop/start any more, but I was wondering if there was a way of getting rid of this?

I've done the same but the symbol I get on the DIS has a line through it showing that stop/start is unavailable - is that what you get? Either way don't thank it's possible to get rid of it.

Mine is the same. Start/Stop disabled through VCDS and it shows on the DIS as not being available.

I have a mod in mind that i havent seen anywhere and was just wondering if it is possible.
I use the coming/leaving home function where both the LED DRL and fog lights switch on for a while. Is it possible to disable the fog lights for that function? I dont like the yellow light output from the fog lights and would prefer if it was just the LED's.
Yup and this was is in fact the default behaviour of my coming home / leaving home lights. Myself I changed my fog bulbs to white light :) Give me a few mins and I will edit this post in order to add the coding you need to remove the fog lights from the CH/LH function.

Edit - This is the Adaptation you need to change in order to remove Fog Lights from the CH/LH Function:
  • 09 - Cent Elect > Adaptations > (4)-Comfort illumination-Coming Home Leuchten
Yours should be set to "Fog Light" or "Nebellicht". I cannot remember the wording for the exact options available but here you can set the following functionality:
  • DLR Only
  • Fog Lights Only
  • DRL and Fog Lights
Hope this helps!

On my Leon I changed my CH/LH lights to be the DRLs instead of the dogs - it looked much meaner and didn't light the whole street to disturb the houses across the road. Not sure if this can be done on the 8V.

Edit: ah just read Alex's post above - job done !

Thanks a lot, you are the best. I tried changing fog light bulbs to whiter ones but had trouble removing the plastic grill, so not wanting to cause any damage i decided to disable the fog lights for ch/lh.
Παρακαλώ :)

I had the same feeling when doing my fogs. They need more force that you might imagine in order to get them off but they are made of strong plastic and can take it.

Lol, your learning skills go far beyond VCDS coding
Edit: remembered some posts where you said you were in Greece, so ignore the "learning" comment.:grinning:
lol I clocked your user name and signature.

I spend a lot of time in Greece and lived there for a few years. I more or less drive past the shop in your signature link on the way to Lamia :)

I'm trying to add the visual parking aid to the MMI through VCDS for the rear parking system on my car, but it won't let me communicate with the module. I have added other options already, eg tilting passenger mirror, with no problems. The module doesn't appear on the gateway installation list. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Can you post up an auto scan so we can see whats going on? Also, do you have factory fitted rear sensors?

The rear sensors are factory fitted. Here is a screenshot of the autoscan and what it shows when I try to communicate with the relevant module. Thanks for your help

Is here anywhere in Leeds where I can just pay to have a couple of mods done via VCDS, or is it worth it in the long run to get a cable? And no doubt a Windows laptop as I'm just Mac only.

I'm only after dipping passenger mirror, rear DRL, visual parking aid I think that's about it.

Always planned to make a couple of changes on my a4 but didn't get around to it, so figured I'd definitely have to make some changes this time around!

If you go for a Windows machine, I just got a Chuwi Windows10 Vi8 Plus and Bluetooth keyboard/case. It's ~£60 on GearBest and works a treat! I was dubious for the price but it's a good bit of kit.
You can run Windows in a VM on your Mac too, I used to do that.

I should think they'd look after any ASN member.......

Just mentioning ASN should be enough to be 'looked after'

Have a look on the VCDS User Map to see if there is anyone near who could help out and drop them a PM, but it's well worth buying a cable if you can as it's a great tool. I have been running VCDS (and other related software) via Parallels with no issues :)

Ah I'll take a look at the map when I get home, failed to spot that while browsing on mobile.

Thanks for that.

One thing I found with parallels was that sometimes I struggled to get it to have exclusive access to the USB port and I was paranoid about Mac OS / Windows battling over it while in the process of flashing my car

I use VirtualBox, and create a rule to always attach the RossTech cable to the Win7 VM - never had an issue. Never used Parallels as you have to pay for it ;)

Good to know. Have used Parallels since it's release so just stuck with it but was wondering about VB.

One of the things i think should be tweaked in the A3 is the Drive Select feature. From personal experience and searching though the forum threads, i found out that the faster engine response in "dynamic" mode isnt retained after turning off the engine and back on again. Instead we should cycle through the driving modes and reselect "dynamic" to get it to work properly. Is there any way to get this fixed with VCDS?

Nope - ALL Audi's seem to do this. I've experienced it on RS3, RS4, S1, SQ5.... It's quite annoying. I've set the * button on the steering wheel to ADS Mode so I can press it easily 5 times every time I start the car.

There is a chance to coding the drive select on a3 8v with vcds? I found on motor-talk.de that it lacks a file on gateway in order to be activated. This file is probably written during the official activation process.

This is a project I am working on at the moment and have been for some time. Although on-going, for the moment it would seem that VCDS is not going to be able to activate / code everything needed in order for the function to work. ADS is basically SWaP and the related control modules need parameterisation. For this VCP or ODIS-E is needed along with the firmware file.

I posted this over in the Puddle Lights Retrofit thread but thought to post here also:

Rear Door Modules Accessed :)

ODIS can access these modules without any recoding but following some testing today this process works via VCDS:
  • 19 - CAN Gatway
  • Select Gateway installation List
  • Scroll down and activate Modules "BB - Door Rear Drv Side" and "BC - Door Rear Pass Side"
  • Save Coding
Notes:
  • Doing this will give you access to Adaptations and Long Coding for the modules but they are not labeled as yet. Completing this Gateway list reconfiguration is going to throw up some CAN Gateway and Rear Door Module related DTC's which cannot be resolved or cleared while the modules are "active".
  • Removing the modules from the gateway list after you have made your coding / adaptation changes resolves the DTC's.
I have no door lights to test / play with so would be interested in seeing any results )

Edit 1: Works for VCP also.

Edit 2: Further information:

*Ignore my 5F Malfunction, this is because I have VIM activated and Audi's SVM does not understand why / how :)

Nice write up!

Am actually still working on this as it bugs me that the sunroof does not close. Have made a little headway offline but cannot test as my car is with Audi until tomorrow.

Hi DJAlix, any news on this? The sunroom thing bugs me too. :grinning: Thanks for all your work here!!

Anyone know how to increase the number of times that the windscreen washers can be used before the headlamp washers come on?

Mine wash the headlamps way too often. Id like it to wash the headlamps maybe every 20 screen washes....it seems to do it around every fifth time just now!

just did a scan for another user on here.....noticed 2 faults that weren't there a week or two ago! any ideas??

  1. select STG 09 (vehicle power)
  2. STG Access Permission -> Function 16
  3. Enter access code 31347
  4. STG adjustment -> function 10
  5. Channel (1) - Select Front wipers Front Number of operations per wash SRA activation
