Prawn and BigAls A3 Track Car

I'm also planning to remake my centre panel in a single sheet of ali that runs full height from the dash top down to the tunnel once the radio and stock heater controls are gone.
I've been planning to do this for ages too, one of the many...

That's the problem isn't it Alex?

My 'to do list' is pages and pages long. None of it hugely expensive to do, but every job hugely labour intensive!

I've got a massive pile of bits waiting to go on with the emerald, but the car isn't ready for it right now, I want it to be perfect before making the swap, and there are a few jobs that need sorting first :)

Jesus Christ you 2 think you have problems.

So what's on this massive list?

Not a lot really;

Check every nut and bolt and mounts.
Renew all of the rubber hoses in the engine bay and replace with silicone.
Front wings modified for air extraction.
Tyre well modified in height to allow better airflow under.
Full flat underside and side skirts.
Rear diffuser.
Strip out all unnecessary items to decrease weight.
Body work and respraying to rusted areas including carbon bonnet.
Roof vent.
Emerald K6 installation and mapping.
New lightweight heater.

AND next week I am sure there will be other things.

I've also been looking at heater options for when I go down the weight saving route this winter.

This caught my eye as particularly suitable:

http://www.t7design.co.uk/index.php/heating/heaters/3-5kw-lightweight-heater-side-vents-12v.html

Mounted on top of the tunnel, with a single outlet on the top feeding the screen demist, and a closable side vent for when my feet get cold!

I take it you've seen the way I've done my de-mister? Not perfect but it will be quite effective. I plan to fit some higher CFM fans, and fins to angle the airflow towards the driver's portion of the windscreen, but honestly it's not far off the airflow/pattern you get from the factory system. Some powerful fans and I reckon it will be better than. And it could be done for £30. I already had the bits laying about, so it made sense.

****** Sootpig with all these good ideas

That's quite a good idea, I'll strip mine all down over winter and take a look at what can be created :)

Had a bit of a result on ebay this week, and scored a new alloy radiator for a good price. I suspect mine is leaking slightly as I've got whitness marks of coolant on the splitter, and I can see steam in my headlight beams at night, despite there being no visible coolant loss.

Also, in other exciting news, this arrived yesterday:

It'll be a fully enclosed space at last! The neigbours (/Tori) will never know what you really get up to in there at night.

I'm really looking forward to it Luke, going to be great. Installing the door tomorrow

New rad turned up yesterday, absolutely identical to my current one, which is good news. Will be fitting Sunday hopefully :)

Ive took my rad off, had the same issue with steam in the headlights. Found cracks in the welds :( Ive had it welded up but im just going to sell it, I cant be doing with parts that are going to fail as I have a Nurburgring trip planned 7-12 April :)

What radiator did you go with this time?

Direnza kindly emailed me to let me know they had the radiator back in stock at £220.....

Direnza again, I've been very happy with it performance wise. This minor coolant loss issue may or may not be a manufacturing fault, but for the price of this replacement in prepared to try another certainly.

Did you have issues with your factory radiator then? I'm yet to have any issues with mine but the only time i've driven the car it was under-powered factory K03 spec, so pretty ****** slow, and only 15mins per session.

I also know a certain someone with a TIG welder and the desire to fix things if you want a home for the old one ;)

I found that the car was getting pretty hot on extended sessions, on full power only though.
At low power it would run all day regardless of the weather. But on really hot days, even with a 16 row oil cooler and brand new OE rad the water temps would creep up to 110+ on a long session (20mins or so)

I'll get the old rad off on Sunday and see how it looks. I'll give you a shout dependant on what I find :)

I have my ECU set to switch the low speed fans on at 85°c, and the high speed will be switched on by either a secondary output on the ECU at 100°C or by the thermostatic switch in the rad (not sure what temperature that switches at, though.

overheating is how my head gasket went. fans weren't working. would it be possible to somehow have an led warning if the fans don't come on?
potential problem save?

also I know you have a lot on but are you any nearer to poly windows. or plastic panels if anyone makes them.
I want to get serious with my car weight. gonna start grinding **** off soon. anything not needed is out. hoping to save another 50 kg somehow

No closer to plastic Windows yet no, I think @StaceyS3 and @Nick_sheep were looking into them from Greece or somewhere?

Should've had the headlights on for dramatic effect; would've been Oscars-material

As above dramatic music and flashing lights in the garage would have jazzed it up. At least the garage is now sealed up so a little more secure and warmer.

Top 5 in 8L :)

You need to take on board the feedback from everyone here and create a theatrical remake. Throw a director's commentary over the top and you could sell the DVD at next year's ADI.

Erm, excuse me, have you not SEEN my window motor video? PER-lease.

That 'least interesting video of 2015 award' is mine.

Hmmmm, good point Adrian.

I'd argue that toe central locking boot release video is perhaps even more dull though
