Hi everyone, I've recently become the owner of a 62 plate black edition S3, so I thought I'd finally introduce myself on here after signing up a few weeks back. Here's a few pics of her after a good clean.

Haven't got many plans for it yet, as I'm just getting use to it coming from a 75hp polo haha! Although I'm wondering what lowering springs people use? What's best and how low? Also are shirt shifters worth it?

Thanks, Luke

Welcome....

The 2 main sets of lowering springs are Eibach pro and the H&R.. The Eibach pro are only the front 2 and are basically used for levelling the arch gap.. The H&R are a full 25mm all round..

Personal experience of the H&R springs.. Do a job, not the greatest however! I ditched mine and went coilovers all round as I felt with the springs being on the standard dampers the car was awful bouncey and I hated the ride personally..

As a stop gap tho, I would recommend them, but not for overall performance and ride comfort..

Short shifter.. Meh.. Not unless your running a race car, its pointless in my own opinion.. More a fad mod otherwise..

I'd always recommend a stage 1 remap as a good place to start when beginning modding.. Turns the car into what it really should have left the factory like.. Easy 300+bhp from no hardware changes at all..

Coming from a 75hp Polo however you may want to get used to the standard power, because even a stage 1 map turns it into a completely different animal..

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I had a feeling the springs wouldn't feel the best. Coming from a car on coilovers I was used to the tough ride haha! Ahh okay, so stage 1 wouldn't require any further mods to be done? Yeah I'm just getting the feel for the car right now before I begin tinkering!

Bang on..

Stage 1 is just an ecu flash.. Doesn't require any supporting mods.

Stage 2: Cold air intake, 3" downpipe..

Stage 2+: as above with a high pressure fuel pump added..

More supporting mods are usually added to 2+ but not essential..

Rs4 fuel valve, stage 2 intercooler.

Be wary about going above stage 1 if your manual.. The clutch won't handle the torque load.. So be prepared for a £1k+ bill to replace the clutch and flywheel for an uprated one if you fancy going down that route.. :)

Thanks for that! Any reccomended places, revo? Apr? I am indeed manual haha, I'll bear that in mind aswell. Cheers!

I'm APR personally.. But wherever really is local enough and your own personal preference.. Always best getting them mapped on a RR at least that way you can monitor the car a whole lot better and see what its done..

Well reading the above i'm sure your ready to sell lol!! A bit depressing reading that but I like to add some positives Stage 2 + is mental a 175mph beast that in the real world is very much untouchable and reliable to boot :)

You go chase that rainbow it's well worth it my friend :) Welcome to the best forum in the world

I think apr would be my preferred choice to be honest and yeah I agree with the RR. Gonna ring around for some prices in the near future.
Haha the power is tempting I won't lie! Gonna have a chat with Apr and get some prices done. I think I've been reading through your thread on here it's been inspiration for me haha. Is it the sprint blue on bbs wheels? If so it's stunning. Thanks for the welcome people!

Always been a big fan of H&R over other makes and run plenty of cars on them however I'd have to agree with the comments above .
As a short term fix, yeah there great but after 10 months on my S3, they settled and gave me issues with speed bumps where I was having to slow to almost embarrassing speeds.
I have KW coilovers now an never looked back!
I'm APR'd too!

Another one for APR here too, they seem to be more advanced than revo as many people on here will back up.

Lovely!

How did you remove fog surrounds? Just pull them off?

Thanks! Got a panel removing tool down the side (side closest to the fog itself) and prized it out. Needed to change the bulbs so thought I'd leave them off while I washed it haha.

Don't waist your money on lowering springs get some v1 coil overs set the height you want and get a massive improvement in handling at the sane time. Win.win

Hello again, looking to get my s3 mapped soon, I'm wondering is there anything worth doing at the same time? Such as fuel pump and valve? Only going to a stage 1 so I'm assuming the clutch will be okay?

Thanks ,Luke

It's the torque that kills the clutch, on a '62 plate car you should be ok pending average mileage. I guess it's still on its original. There's no way of saying it's going to be ok though, it'll slip when it slips.

Mines '09 with nearly 60k and I am going to give stage 1 a miss as I had it on my Edition 30 and that killed the clutch after a few k.

Pump isn't needed for stage 1, so pointless. No harm in getting HPFP follower changed though.

Yeah it's on its original clutch, it's on 31k miles. Ahh thanks for that! Change the follower for a genuine one?

Thanks

You can use a pump with stage 1 on a apr map it's stage 1+ and gives a lot better torque though out

Thing is though if you're spending the money on an uprated HPFP,the step to Stg2+ represents a lot more bang for your buck so to speak, for not a huge amount more.

It's worth the OP considering what they want, and how much they want to spend.
If they only really want 310bhp,then the extra money for a pump(and it has to be said that APR's version is very costly),there may be less point in their Stg1+ option.

Yeah I'm only after around 310hp. So you reckon the hpfp isn't worth doing for stage 1? Is there anything you suggest doing along with the map itself?
