Just thought I would start a thread to capture everyone's first thoughts after a test drive, or after collecting your new car. These can be good or bad everyone has their own opinion.

Today I took out the demonstrator from Dundee Audi (first to drive it, sales man took it off the showroom floor floor for me)

Spec was:
Mythos black
Super sports seats
Titanium rotors with optional 255 up front
Comfort and sound pack
Tech pack & Audi connect
Mag ride
Alloy roof rails
Alu pack
Mono pur
Folding heated mirrors
Audi phone box.

Speed:
I currently drive an S3 8v with DTUK Tunning box so I'm comparing it to that.
In S mode it feels good, you get more of that "push in the back feeling", turbo lag seems to be reduced as well. In D mode it feels pretty much the same as the S3, even when you put your foot down it doesn't feel as quick as what it does in S. In the S3 once your foot is down and its dropped a few gears D and S feel the same, maybe that's just me.
In Manual, this also feels the same as the S3. I tried the kick down switch in 6th gear but nothing happened, think it might be broken as it should of dropped a few gears and put me into the seat.

Sound:
This car never had the Dynamic exhaust which was quite disappointing. When the sales man started it in the show room I could have eaten a banana side ways my smile was that big, but out on the open road it was quite tame. Some nice crackles and pops when coming down from 3rd to 2nd in S mode. The DSG farts on the up shift are a lot quieter than the S3. For me the Dynamic pack is a must.

Drive:
This was the best bit for me, the handling was far superior to the S3, I'm not sure if it was the mag ride or 255's up front, probably a combination of both but it felt great. Gave me a lot more confidence on the corners.

Styling:
I was surprised how much better it looks in the flesh rather than in photos. Black was nice but the Alu pack was horrible, just looked like cheap plastic add on's.
I wasn't a fan of the rotors either but they actually look nice. The rear of the car looks lovely with the oval pipes. I think they could of made them a little deeper as you can quite easily see the the 2 pipes in the middle.

Interior:
Really nice place to be, not much different than the S3 though, except the super sports seats and track pack which I don't have just now.

All in all I think it was pretty much what I was expecting. Did it make me laugh and smile? Yes it did. And for that reason..... IM IN.

Here's some pics.

Tried it a few times. The video above is a launch from 0.

Yes, definitely a vote for the dynamic pack.

Ah yeah of course I can see that now.

How do you engage the lauch ?

Am I right in thinking it is:

traction control off
Gears sport mode
foot brake left foot
apply revs
let go brake

Have I missed anything ?

Got my go in the RS3 this weekend.

Thats it :rockwoot:
If the car has Hold assist then turn that off also. Brake pedal needs to be pushed in firmly as well or the revs wont build up.

Thinking of moving from the tt bud?

Yeah thinking about it mate. I do love my TT but i'm missing S-tronic and practicality a little bit. It's funny though. When i had my S-tronic Stage 2+ S3 i missed manual. I can't win. I need one of each :)

Had to let go of mine as I needed back seats, miss it every day

Mine was a manual which I loved, hoping I get on with the s tronic!

cool thanks - I am trying that for sure :sunglasses:

Is that launch control vid downhill?! It's obviously difficult to time exactly, but it's about 3.5 seconds to 60mph!!

No, it was the flattest bit of road i could find. I was going to record the time with VCDS but i only had a 30 min test drive so didn't want to waste time going home for my laptop.

There's a chap on the a45 forum that had one for test drive, he v boxed it at 3.5 secs to 60 and 9.5 to 100. Think he also got 12.3 for quarter mile

I'm sure you will they are great gearboxes. When does your RS3 arrive? :)

Do all A3/S3s look pretty much the same inside? Apart from the seats and steering wheel my A3 Sport looks identical. However, and it is a big however, it definitely doesn't go like that or sound like that.
I now get what everyone's been saying about the exhaust. Learn something new on this forum everyday!
Great write up by the way.

One thing I noticed when I walked into the showroom was that I was immediately drawn to an S3 in Sepang Blue over the white RS3. For some reason I just assumed that this must be the sportier model, until I looked at the showroom license plate. Wolf in sheep's clothing indeed :)

Good review, for me it's backed up my thinking that it's too similar to my current S3, and I'm happy I've gone for an S4.

Apart from the RS badging the interior is identical to the S3, and I prefer the subtle exterior lines. You don't really notice the wheel arch extensions, maybe Mythos isn't the best colour to show these off. I do not like the aluminium trim on the front end. The back end looks very purposeful though.

If I kept a hold of my TT, and been looking at the S3/RS3 then yes, totally RS3 .. I think it's worth the extra purely for the 5 pot, but I would need the dynamic pack.

I think it needed to be visually, exterior and interior, more removed from the S3. Wider arches, better wheels (those new rotors designs do nothing for me), maybe bonnet vents .. interior should have had special buckets, leather/alcantara dash or something.

Each to their own though, new cars = all good hehe ..

Almost, but not quite - alcantara on the steering wheel and different door hands on the inside. slightly different dash layout - but thats a MY16 thing not a RS thing.

Actually, stepping from an S3 into an RS3, I felt immediately at home. I managed to find the same seating position I have in my S3.

I prefer the 8V cabin, over almost every other car I have had, and that includes some big jags. For me, it strikes the right balance of practicality without being overly fussy; the air vents are brill!

But, you are right, it could have been made a little more visually aggressive - but I also like the wolf in sheeps clothing appeal. I appreciated that last night when some tw*t in a 530D decided to drive in my slipstream. Didn't stay there for long, athough it had a turn of speed. The RS3 would have seen a bigger and quicker gap!! Anyway.... back on topic!!

The car won't kick down in Manual mode. Only in D or S.

What I found interesting when I drove the RS3 was it does not change up a gear automatically when you are in Manual mode. You can happily bounce it off the limiter unlike the S3 which automatically changes up a gear when you hit the limiter.

Yep manual really is manual.

In my S3 the kick down switch only works M. In D or S the car automatically drops you a few gears with just pressing the pedal (not hitting the kick down switch)
