Hi all, I've been browsing this forum for a while and as I've just placed an order for an A3 thought I'd sign up and say hi. Currently own a 3 year old Audi TT but fed up with the impracticality and dated tech so opted for the A3 this time. 1.4 CoD 150ps S-Line, S-Tronic in solid black with Comfort Pack and electric lumbar. Does anyone know if you can tweak the spec after submitting the order but before it's gone into production (starts end July for September delivery on the new 65 plate)? I am thinking I should have opted for something which really ought to be standard (particularly on S-Line) - the electric folding wing mirrors. My TT fits in the garage just fine but I think the A3 is slightly wider. Anyone have any problems fitting in a standard width (UK) garage with their A3 (minus folding mirrors)???

Hi and welcome along.

You will still have some time yet to make changes. Electric folding mirrors was a must for me but only because I get paranoid when parking that someone will hit them. For the relatively cheap cost (£150?) it's well worth it.

Folding mirrors are great and worth the spec. I have a standard size garage and there is bags of room. You may want to look at Audio options. Don't think it's too long before things get locked down, so don't hang around too long.

I may be too late then, I paid the deposit on 01/06. I wanted to keep costs down as well. I got a bit carried away with the options and was approaching £30k at one point so had to scale it back down to get it under £26,750. I never park on streets and folding mirrors in public car parks merely encourages the old rust bucket next to you to park even closer to the side of your car - the only place they'd be useful is if I need the extra room getting through the garage doors. I think it will fit without but finding it tricky to get the dimensions including mirrors, everyone seems to quote without.

Eeeeeexcellent, 9 inches to spare. Which is ironic, I'm sure I said that to the missus last night too.

I have a standard size garage (if there is such a thing). I could get my car in without folding, but would certainly have to concentrate. I think they are a good buy for the money. As well as the folding, you get auto dipping when in reverse and also heating. I think good value for £150.
But then - you really should spec high beam assist - great feature.
And - oh - adaptive cruise control is highly praised (it's the one I wish I had)
You've still time to change the spec - some on here would change the colour twice before it gets locked :yum:

I wanted high beam assist but it's not available with Xenon's WTF? So you only get it with crappy Halogens?

Adaptive Cruise is cool but considering my max budget was £25k and I wanted S-Line for the nicer looks (and Xenon's as standard) and S-Tronic, it didn't leave me much wiggle room for extras. Ideally I wanted Daytona Grey but not at £540!

Interior LED pack looks good but again, why is such a thing not standard on the top spec S-Line. I've seen similar stuff on base model Astras and Leon's. Audi are a bit stingy sometimes!

Re the mirrors, are the non-folding ones not heated then?

I agree so much with your comments about Audi being stingy. People will argue that it allows people to build their car to their needs. It annoys me when you see considerably cheaper cars with tons of spec thrown in.

In answer to your question non folding mirrors are heated, theres a dial you turn the mirror adjustment knob to

Right... When the folding mirrors says "includes heated..." I sort of assumed that without folding you don't get heated!!
Lots comment about the business model of self configuration. But it's a premium marque and the model obviously works. You could get a Skoda for less money and higher spec (I considered it) but in the end we go for the class of the Audi. There's a lot more Audi's than Skodas and Seats put together on the road.

Just out of curiosity how do you get the "team brilliant red" under your banner? :p thanks

The same way you got Audi A3 and Audi A1 under yours :p

My order is B/W 29 so July 13th and it's now locked down so I'd decide pretty quickly!

Thanks! Didn't spot it earlier, hiding at the bottom aha
We been adding options on to cover all the different things. It's not a 5 minute job lol :) x

I have ordered high beam assist with my s-line my dealer never told me that I would loose the xenons.....?

I didn't speak to the dealer, I did the config at home then just emailed it to him and said 'Make it so!'. But if you go on their online configuratior, select the A3 S-Line | Safety & Technology | Assistance Systems and tick Beam Assist it comes up with the following:

High-beam assist - 100.00 GBP
Only in combination with Auto-dimming rear view mirror or Comfort package. Not available in combination with Xenon light package or Adaptive headlights with Xenon Plus headlights.

Although, annoyingly it lets me tick it and doesn't downgrade the standard (on S-Line) Xeonons to Halogens so perhaps I could have had it. Arrgghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, the xenon light package is different because it comes with adaptive headlights,

I have ordered the s-line which comes with xenons just not the adaptive headlights. I prefer to have the high beam assist.

Buggeration. I've emailed the dealer to see if I can add it without delaying the order. Thanks for clarifying.

That's the way I read it in the brochure!
If I am wrong I will be running away from my car when it has been made...

I will email my dealer just incase... Putting doubts in my head! :0

I would never sacrifice xenons for it!

Me neither, it's one reason I'm getting rid of a TT I've only owned a year. I had Xenons on my previous car and going back to Halogens was like using candles.

I've contacted my dealer and beam assist has been added to my order (without causing any delays) and can confirm, it does work with Xenons so your interpretation of their vague wording was correct.

With S-Tronic, auto-wipers, auto-lights and beam assist I am not going to have much to do other than steer the wheel! I should imagine with adaptive cruise and park assist as well, it wouldn't be far off a self-driving car.

I hate to sound picky @Sandra but do you reckon you could tweak the Team Glacier spelling please?!

If you go back in to join user groups and leave group and then rejoin the spelling has been corrected. :) x

You could get side assist and lane assist and all that stuff as well - lots of technology!
What I don't think is documented (at least I missed it if it is) is that if you have auto wipers and auto lights active, then the lights come on when it rains (even in daylight) - cool!!

Given I'd already spent about £5k more than I originally intended (was looking at used to begin with) and then spent another £900 on options, I think I'll pass on adaptive cruise and lane assist otherwise I'll be approaching S3 money!
