Hi,

Strange one this, I ordered an A3 a few months ago now and paid the £500 deposit with my credit card. This was done over the phone as the garage is about 40 miles away.

I'm told and expect a Sept 1st date to pick it up, now the strange thing is I haven't really heard much since. I'm going to call him later but wasn't sure what to ask for ?

I haven't really got an order number or final cost, last time i asked he said it was too early ? Is this true ?

Lastly, how do you guys pay for it, as from what I understand if you pay using a debit card the max is £10K per transaction, is that correct ???

Thanks,

I paid for my S3 on visa debit; they had to ring up for authorisation, but it was hassle free. Long gone are the days of the bankers draft!

Ah ok, as I thought it was £10k max per day otherwise the bank can / do charge some admin fee ?

How about the ordering section ? Should I ask for a final order number and price ?

Surely the price is one of the first things you should know before ordering??

Ring you bank/cc company first and tell them that a large transaction will be going through on X date, otherwise it could get blocked & you'll have to mess about on the phone to them in the dealership.

Paid mine via BACS.
Garage gave me the Sort Code / Account Code and transfer was made from the comfort of my house - about 2200 hours I think.

Received confirmation e-mail that the transfer had been successful and looked forward to meeting me again on 1 September 2014.

Nice, smooth and hassle-free.

I asked to pay the deposit on Amex as I get 1.25% cashback :p they said they can't do it :(

BACS is good as you say don't even have to leave the house :) A lot of places are also doing Paypal these days, did one the other day with Slims from this site.

Why do you not know the price of the car you're buying? That tends to be my first port of call. What the deal is! Otherwise I wouldn't be paying any deposit.

I paid a deposit of circa £2k on credit card and the remaining balance on collection day on visa debit card. Didn't pre-warn my bank and the dealer just had to call up for transaction authorisation when I was there.

I paid the £500 deposit over the phone on my credit card as I was at Center Parcs when they confirmed the deal I wanted and I was keen to get things underway. They emailed me a PDF of the order and gave me an invoice for the £500 when I popped in a few weeks later. Paid the £27k or so balance (after trade in) on my debit card. Was referred as a large transaction so the Bank needed to talk to me but all very straight forward.

Thanks, and I knew the exact price when I initially agreed with the discount I got. But since then I've added and removed a few options so don't know the exact price anymore :p

I paid almost all by BACS (leaving a small residue to pay on the day) but if you are going to pay by debit card then the advice above is well worth it

Bristol, didn't get a chance to call, will try tomorrow.

Same for me. I called the bank the day before, just to be on the safe side, but they said there was no need really.
All went through smoothly.
I would think you should have an order number and a BW by now. But you do sometimes have to ask. My dealer was good, but not very proactive.

Surely the dealership should have issued a revised order form? Mine did when I changed my order (at least twice!) to reflect exactly what I was / was not purchasing and the price I would pay. Also I had to sign it to confirm the order, so I'd def call your dealership to get that paperwork and check your order.

I was the same as Snow-Munki. Knew the original agreed price, but they didn't issue updates when I changed the spec. But all was perfectly OK.
I have read on here before that some dealers are surprisingly informal regarding the paperwork.

I'm using Bristol to, when I changed my order I had a new order form emailed to me. I would definitely query it

You SHOULD have had a new order form. But call them and get it sorted.

I know every order will have its differences and variations but I like to think the way mine went is pretty much the text book standard:

- Called dealer and booked test drive
- After test drive I sat down with the dealer and said yep I want one, they advised me to build one on the Audi website at home so I could take as much time as I wanted with choosing options etc etc and to take note of the Audi number when complete
- I emailed the dealer the Audi number
- the dealer then called me with the final price and emailed me the order form listing the full spec for me to check, also gave me account numbers etc to make a BACS payment online for the deposit which was £1000
- payed deposit with my online banking
- I then received a confirmation email that they had received the deposit and a separate email with the final order form with my order number/Audi reference
- dealer then called me about 3 hours later telling me that my car has been ordered
- about 2 weeks later the dealer emailed me my allocated Build week slot
-during the 5 month wait I made several BACS payments online whenever I had a bit extra money (each time I then got confirmation emails to use as receipts)
- one month before I collected the car the dealer called me and told me the chassis number and booked me in for a 40 minute appointment for handover/collection of the new car.
- one week before I collected they called again and told me my new registration number and asked how I plan to pay the rest of the balance - I decided to finance the last £8k so popped in to the dealer and signed a few forms, also gave them a copy of my insurance certificate that I sorted out that morning down at the brokers.

The whole process was very pleasant and easy, although I never really got any updates such as when the order was locked or when the car was in production, built, in transit, arrived at dock or dealers etc etc... I ended up finding out them bits of info my self by calling Audi UK CS.

Bit of a long winded post post but just wanted to show you that if the order was done correctly you should at least have an order form that lists your full spec and final price and any deposit payed. It should also have an order number/reference.

I think £10k is the normal maximum amount per transaction but if you inform your bank before hand it can be anything u like, otherwise they might decline the payment or call u to authorise it.

I'd ask them for a copy of the order they've placed with Audi, the wait sounds very long even for an A3. That will also allow you to confirm the specification is correct.

On payment I put the deposit on my credit card and the remainder via bank transfer. Putting even the deposit on your credit card has the added advantage that it gives you protection under the Consumer Credit Act if you have problems with the car and the dealer are is not helpful in resolving them. With regard to the final payment something to bear in mind is my bank (NatWest) have a limit on the value of transfer you can do via the online system which was too low. I therefore had to go into a branch and arrange a CHAPS transfer, which carried a small fee.

in the unlikely scenario of the dealer going into administration with your money, would you be able to get it back??

I really don't know to be honest, but then I'd be shocked if a dealership from a giant corporation like Audi were to go into administration, if it did happen I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect Audi UK to step in and pass me over to another Audi dealership. I see what u are getting at but let's be honest this is Audi we're talking about, not some Del Boy running his own private business ;)

finally got my order through the post as proof, however noticed one extra which I never asked for or know what it is ??

Autoglym Protection Pack ( includes semi rigid boot liner ) - £332.50 ( + VAT )

Bit cheeky adding that without me knowing !! I'll call him tomorrow and ask what it is.

The thing that is puzzling is - why did you pay most of the cost up front. Interest is low at the moment, but why give it to the dealer rather than putting it in your own bank account, or buying some premium bonds.

It's body paint protection. Lot's of folks on here will tell you not to have it. (You can get a good boot liner for under 50 quid.)

Well I never thought about buying more premium bonds to be honest. As for holding it in my own bank, I can't see that I would of made much in the way of interest for each of the 4-5 months I was saving money for the car, but then I didn't really think about doing that either. My goal was to save up for a new car in 6 months and that was that, I simply paid the majority of my car off bit by bit before I got it and I've always been an impulse spender so the way I saw it was it was better paying it to the dealer than me spending it elsewhere. Yes interest is quite low at the minute hence the reason I ended up deciding to finance the last £8k which means I get to have 2 holidays this year instead of 1. But hey My money managing choices can't be that bad if I managed to save enough in less than 6months to only owe 8 grand on the £38k car sat on my drive, I expect to pay that off by the end of the year if all goes to plan. Life is good ;)
