OK my 8P is five years old in Dec and comes to the end of the 5 year warranty. Looking at a S3 SB and thinking about my options financially.
My 8p has only done 31K at the moment and guess 36k in Dec. I actually love the way it drives so might even just keep it longer and take the risk of any issues . Suspect we get DPF issues , as it is used for a number of short journeys , though I do try to give it a few journeys on dual carriageways for 20mins plus at 60-70 MPH around every fortnight.

Am at an age where the insurance for S3 is really cheap so very tempted to go for it. Looking around would seem to be between 10 and 11% discount (would use Car wow or drive the deal) , but what to do with mine?

Clearly a private sale will give the best deal , and looking at classifieds would be circa £11k + . I guess if I sell with say still 6 months Audi warranty that would be better.
Though how much do you guys thinks the difference would be on PX , I am assuming a fair chunk of the 11% would go back on the PX ( EG maybe around £8k , if I get the discount ).
Never used webuyanycar , but assume they would offer a lower price than selling private , but how much lower? Any experience ? TBH if WBAC is say £1K worse I might go that route over Private as I don't want the hassle dealing with private buyers...

In my current situation i p/x'd my 10 month m235i and got alot better then we buy any car quoted. Private could get an extra 1-2k but as on finance would put people off and also not many people have the 30k cash privately so px was my only way to do it

Hi mate, what made you ditch the 235i? I had the m135i before the Evoque (collect s3 on thurs!) and ditched it as I wasnt a big fan of the rwd...

The birth of my son means no more 2 door for me. As my other half is selling her mini we will share the s3. Good car but wouldnt want her driving rwd either

I have been offered around £1600 more by "we buy any car" than px from the dealer for my 2.0TDI and could get between £500 - £1000 more than "we buy any car" if i sell privately

I did get 12% discount though but is not dependent on the px so will try to sell privately and if not successful will go to "we buy any car". I expect the final figure well be around £1000 above dealer px because a black cat walked in front of the car last Wednesday or because there is a 2mm circle of bird poo on the rear windscreen

My dealer was happy to complete the paperwork based on px but said if I wanted to pursue a private sell they would just amend the balance accordingly.

In my case it would only make at best £500-£1000 difference so I can't really be ***** with the hassle but at least it gives you options and enables you to place the order :)

Never even considered WBAC to be honest as I'd assumed (wrongly from above comment) their offers would be cr*p!!

WBAC could still end up cr*p due to the bird poo effect :)

When I went through my local Audi dealer they just looked up Webuyanycar and quoted me that figure as a trade-in, so you could do that yourself online in all honesty. The other thing with WBAC that I noted was the declaration, that it is free from dents etc, so essentially you could "agree" the price online get to their depot and then find local WBAC bloke go over with a fine toothcomb and drop the price down (the way it reads is that they expect near to an "as new" finish on a used car else they can "vary the price". The problem of course is that if you choose to go the WBAC route you won't find that out until just before you take delivery of your new wheels.

If you can go private I would, or maybe consider selling and just hiring a car for when you absolutely need it for a few weeks (say from someone like Europcar Car Rental - if you only need a car at weekends, just hire one at weekends).

Either way you have to consider the dealer giving you a decent trade-in against any discount and determine for yourself if that's a good deal. Personally I'd see what I could get by trading in and driving a good discount, as you may take a little less on the trade-in deal, but save on any discount. Plus there is no hassle of having to sell, or go without wheels for a few days.

In Oct 13 when I sold my 5 year old 8P S3 with 35k on the clock to WBAC for just under £1500 more than the PX. I was knocked down just over £300 by WBAC as they offered ~£1800 better than PX online. This was on the saturday and I picked up the 8V S3 on the Monday.
Interesting thing was they sent the car to Aberdeen and the garage there asked £4k more for it than I got; it was sold within 2 weeks!!!
I was happy with the deal as at the time I didn't want the hassle of trying to sell privately.

I px'd my 4 yr old 8P with 22,500 miles on the clock for £9,400, negotiated up from dealer's initial offer of £9,000 (after getting up to walk away). WBAC had offered £8,800 online and would no doubt have revised that figure downwards on actually seeing the car, but they weren't given the chance. The car needed minor bodywork repairs and the dealer said that he thought it would probably end up at the local auction. A week later it was on the dealer's website at £11,800 and a week after that it was no longer on the stocklist. Local auction my @rse!!

This was in July 2014 and the model was a 1.4t 122 PS sport. Very good car, actually, but the attraction of the 8V was just too much!

Have you thought about approaching local garages to see if they want to buy it for their stock?

I got a p/x quote from audi and a quote from WBAC, I'm selling it to a local car dealer instead for £500 more than WBAC.

If you research WBAC on-line you will find that they almost never give you what they quote initially. Always find something to reduce the price.
If considering px I think it is a good idea to do the deal first and then bring in px, so you really do know what they are giving you.
My old car did have some dings and minor dents. Dealer offered my £500 less that WBAC initial quote. But the dealer held the offer until the car was delivered (32 weeks!!!). So a no brainer.

I sold my car privately on Autotrader and gained an xtra 900£ compared to the part x Audi offered me

No regrets then?

I collect my S3 tomorrow and am looking forward to the build quality and performance, but Im not expecting it to be as quick as my m135i was....

Too many horror stories and too much hassle for private sale IMO. I have only ever sold two cars privately, one to a friend which was easy and the other via motoring press and the guy that eventually bought it was a real pain in the backside. And we had both obviously read guidelines on buying and selling so the process of exchanging the cash/car were like switching the bag of sand for the relic in Indiana Jones!!

Yes, p/ex loses you a bit of cash but for a valuable car i think it is worth it for reduced risk and certainty. Once you agree a price with the dealer - and i have agreed a September p/ex price based on current valuation and depreciation assuming normal wear and tear and mileage in the interim - then it's a "known". My Audi dealer got straight on the phone to their sister BMW dealership who annoyingly offered Audi £1k less than they offered me! I challenged Audi to bridge this gap if they wanted to do a deal and they phoned around to reduce that gap to £200. My advice is always to tell the dealer if they're keen to try and work harder to pre-sell your part-ex so you can get a better value rather than just accept an initial book price. WBAC offered me a terrible price so dismissed that immediately.

WBAC don't always offer a terrible price though so they are worth checking out. My Dad is looking at changing his car and two dealers offered £3,200 and £3,600. We tried WBAC who offered £4,250. Occasionally it has been known for WBAC to email back a few days later with an increased offer.

In a straight line the M135i will be quicker but booting your S3 out of a bend with the Quattro kicking in I am sure you will leave a M135i for dead. Straight line speed is one thing and a bit boring after a while. Whereas the thrill of the pace out of a corner/bend in any car is always good:)

I was in the same position a couple of months ago. My S3 8P was 6 years old but absolutely mint. I was initially offered £10k by the dealer for PX so got a quote from WBAC. They offered £12.5k (£2.5k more than audi) so I was considering going with them. Privately I think I could've got £14-£15k but the trade off was the hassle of selling privately. I hate waiting for the person to turn up for them to call and say they are running late or worse not turn up at all. I also hate people turning up who have no intention of buying the car or they do but only for a stupid price e.g. £3k below asking!!!

I decided to hold out and was actually considering keeping the car, but then I got a call from the Audi dealer that I was buying from asking if I had sold it yet. They said they had their valuers coming in the next day and asked if I still wanted to px. I asked them to give me an offer and surprisingly it was actually £200 more than WBAC so I went with it to save the hassle of the private sale.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

WBAC send all the vehicles straight to auction, so they will almost always offer lower prices than you get elsewhere. If you're unsure on selling privately then try something like BCA Sure Sell. This way you can set the reserve, know the selling fees up front and have total security & peace of mind. It will sell pretty much straight away as well.

Thats not quite true.....more and more trade buyers are using WBAC as a source for specific cars.....according to my local WBAC staff anyway....

I used the carbuyingservice.co.uk when selling the X5. They offered me more than dealer PX and WBAC. I didnt have the time to sell it privately but got a good deal. Worth a go.

You really think WBAC are going to tell you how/where they sell your car for more money........

Trade buyers are generally found at auction, so they have the audience/market and then the chance to make money on the car plus their buying fees.

'We Want Any Car' offered me £100 more than the Audi trade in but I went with the trade in for convenience. From memory it was also a significantly better offer than WBAC.

I personally think that WBAC aren't the best for what they offer. I would probably push you to do a private sale if you are still looking or at least try one of the others to compare prices, I think thecarbuyingservice.co.uk are pretty fair with what they offer and they have make specific pages so have a page devoted to if you are selling an Audi.

Give them a shot and a maybe try a few others to compare.

I went on WBAC last weekend for a valuation, it was purely out of interest as I have no plans to sell my car for a while, a friend of mine did his as he's selling up so I said here put my car in. Now bearing in mind it's a 4 month old S3 that cost the best part of £40k, WBAC came up with £75 to offer me lol clearly something wrong there haha
