A4 2.5 TDI Injector 3 (Needle Lift)

That looks to be pretty well in spec. Time to put the doors back I and see how she drives. Is the vibration bad?

Really ?!?!?! The yellow line moves up and down constantly, and occasionally jumps right up (see the two little yellow dots).

Obviously the graph means nothing to me, just need to find the time research and understand VCDS & TDI Timming.

She is just as lumpy and shaky as she was before :-(

Didn't even see those dots. By and large it's in spec, if a touch retarded. I think there should be a "cloud" option that gives the last 20odd points as a burst on the graph and should be fairly close.

The points wildly out are bizarre. Has the car had a timing belt done recently? If you take the timing belt cover off and start it is the timing belt bouncing around or does it run dead true?

Other than that I can only think the next step would be to start logging live data to see how the rest of the system is behaving. That's not something I've done yet.

Frank

If the third injector is still faulty timing will bounce around everywhere.

Would imagine the needle lift sensor would be back in the fault codes if that was the case wouldn't it Darran?

Hi Frank,

The timing belt has not been done recently, but I have changed the front end of the car!!

If the third injector is still faulty timing will bounce around everywhere.

Hi Darran,

Do you think I should have changed the nozzle over?
There are no errors on the VCDS scan :-(

Sorry guys, thank you again for all your help!

Maybe I should just give in and take it to a garage, I was just hoping to avoid the expense, and learn some stuff :-(

It measures the pulses from what i remember through the injector , so yes i would of thought it would throw a fault.

Problem is sometimes we rely on computers too much, i had a headlight fault on my A4 and vcds told me everything bar the truth which was a semiconductor gone in the CEM.

I think we have to use the old fashioned approach aswell as technology.

Are you getting any smoke out the exhaust when it runs rough , if so what colour ?

Id buy it. Very nice.
Cheers Darran, its getting there.

Just wish I hadn't started the engine before getting the bodywork done!!!

Started her this morning, and she ran very smooth, started her at lunch and she was rough and shaking until I reved her hard a few times.

She is quite smokey, but its a light grey colour.

What do you think of the fresh scan ... obviously ignore most of the electrical errors asd it was missing doors, boot, hood cover etc.

Got a flat battery Sat, tried to jump start it Sun morn and it had enough power, was turning over but wouldn't start.
Charged battery all day and it took about 10-15 attempts to start, and when it started loads of smoke and blackish water came out the exhaust.
Its in the spray shop at the moment, but I'm still stressing that i've f**ked something up :-(

Sorry to be a pain guys, and taking up so much of your time.

Ahaaa the last number is the nozzle ,( the first number is the main injector body bosch number) so it looks like the replacement one has a different nozzle to the original.

Thanks Frank it was your post that pointed me to the nozzle difference.

Good evening Darran, guess what .... i changed to nozzles over today, and touch would she's purring like a kitten :)

The nozzle will unscrew from the injector, beware - the needle valve is under pressure from a spring in the body of the injector - something like this...
View attachment 53989

You'll have to make sure all the bits from the original injector get transferred to the new one - it is the internals including the needle valve that determine the characteristics of the nozzle.

I've never opened mine but there was several threads in one of the diesel forum posts talking about the nozzles and adjusting needles for more power etc.

Frank

Evening Frank, changed the nozzle over on the injector, and touch wood she purring like a kitten :)

That's good news mate. Now just to stick her all back together and get the CC sorted and you'll be motoring!

She's nearly there, just waiting for a towbar before putting the rear end back together.
Can't get my head around the cc.

Thank you so much for ALL your help :)

Seems Darran knew more than bosch expert ? lol
