TQS track car project - extremely slow progress

I am. That was supposed to be my second set for semi slicks. Will see how much it would cost me to have it welded.

No wonder it is rubbing. It goes down quite a bit on the front in corners.
Think I will need to raise it a bit.

Nice pics and that track looks great. I would get some genuine Audi wheels or keep an eye for some team dynamics pro race wheels. They sometimes come up and are pretty cheap. Most people I know that have had reps have had cracks or buckles. You can always then sell them on after you're finished with them too.

The ones that are on the car are genuine B6 S4 Avus 18's.
The ones cracked are reps.
Problem I have is finding a wheel with an offset that will be lower than my current ET48 with 12mm spacer,
but that will also clear 18Z calipers. TD Pro1.2 are mostly ET40+ so will still need a spacer.
Ultraleggeras are common with 35, but not sure about the clearance.

Added a sunvisor replacement today. Might be an mot failure if tester is an ***. Will have to wait and see.

Arent they 18" A8 avus wheels B6 are more concaved with bulkier spokes and are ET45 ??

As for wheels id just get reps if there going to be used on track as i doubt you will be hitting any massive potholes lol

Shouldnt fail as they changed it to obscuring the drivers view of the road your only taking some view of the sky away if the road is clearly visible should pass, i would pass it !

I need to double check the ET. I'm pretty sure when I was buying these, it said it is from S4.

That's good to know about the sunstrip. I think it used to be that wipers can't go over it, but it would be pretty much impossible to have one in that case. Do you do MOTs? What's your take on removed airbags and the whole wiring with completely stripped out car?

I've discovered something today. While stripping the interior, I have disconnected the headlight auto levelling module. Wooops! Need to plug it in and reset with vcds.

Your track wheels look like early D2 S8 wheels to me:

I've got front uprights with front calipers removed from my b5. Also, front bumper bar. Really dont have space to keep them. Anyone fancy before I go to skip?

You guys were right. Wheels are off S8. ET 48.

Which means that with 12mm spacer, I am running currently ET36, not 33 like I thought. So, with 18x 8" wheel, I have two choices. I need to either get smaller spacer, but not smaller than 10mm to clear calipers and raise the car OR 10mm spacer with ET50 and probably still raise the car. If I got wheels ET45, I would have to run spacer lower than 8mm, and these are non hubcentric.Does anyone have an arch rolling tool I could borrow, or know of anyone around Sheffield who could do it?

drop to 10mm spacers and roll the arches and you should be good. Car probably needs to come up a little regardless.

I think it does. Tyres don't rub on straights, just in high degree corners in a dip/down the hill, so not sure if 2mm different ET will help. I might try to DIY roll them myself, but would be easier with the rolling tool.
This, one day #inlove

Been waiting for this for 3 months and finally arrived. :)

Ok. So I had a look at tyreleader for ns2r, and there is a difference of £20 between medium and soft. Soft is also cheaper than anywhere else. Am I missing something?

Over the last couple of weeks I've been working on something that some of you might say is pointless on a track car. But, I do like to have good looking cars and this cost me mostly the paint and some clips. Took me ages because of rubbish weather and not enough time after work.

I started sanding the blue S4 bumper down

Used a bit of filler and put 3 coats of primer filler. Later gave it a coat of sealer. Skirts were already primed in grey, so just used white sealer on top.

And 3 coats of basecoat paint + 3 coats of 2k clear.

Fitted all over the last two days in rain.
Love the S4 bumper. Haven't decided what I will do about the door trim yet.

And once again, my awesome gearstick :D

What did you do about the metal brackets under the sills?

I've got mine all ready to go on, but two of the metal brackets are NLA (both on the same side too :( )

Be interested to see how you went about fitting them!

I've got a nice carbon trim for around the gearstick if your interested :p Or a black wrapped one.

Hmm. Not sure which brackets you mean. Do you have a pic? I don't know if I want anything to cover the gearstick :) Haven't made up my mind yet.

I have couple of issues with skirts. After opening and closing the door few times, door drops on hinges and catches on skirt. Second thing is the bumper that sticks out 5mm too much even with the metal mounts fully pushed in.

You mean this one?

Ahh now I know. I didn't use them at all. My skirts are secured by 3 bolts on each end, and underneath with 5 of these large rounds type of clips. I might fit one of the metal brackets if I manage to get them off the s4, but they are rusted as hell. I was told at audi that you can't order these.

Fair enough! I got the big round clips for underneath, and i've got the velcro thing that holds the top edge in place.

I ordered the metal strips from Audi, but the only had the one side left in stock, the drivers side ones are discontinued.

Yup. That's why I decided not to use them at all. I might use some kind of epoxy or something extra strong for back part of the skirt underneath the car. Other than that it holds well.

I just used some self tapers and silicone sealant, were the existing fixing points are and were the round clips are theres about 5 either side then used some heavy duty velcro (which isnt that heavy duty as the sticky side seems to be unstuck in places) not the best way to go but the brackets are about £100-150 maybe more so just did it the topgear way lol

I was thinking about using some kind of strong double sided tape because the velcro solution is rubbish. Just wouldn't want to have water sit on it all the time.

The top is held on with a plastic velcro thing from the factory is it not?

Cant you take the stock fittings off the S4?

They are glued and plastic. Can try but i doubt it will come off in one piece.

Might give it a go !

New shoes arrived today. Chuffed with the price I paid for them.

It's just one of ebay type fiberglass bumpers, slightly modified by myself. Still, work in progress. Final result will look slightly different. Just need to do other things first.

Like any other fiberglass bumper when you add extra fiberglass :) Guy that was spraying it cocked it up because didn't use filler primer. You can see high and low spots which is annoying. Anyway, might respray it myself after i finish with it.

Managed to remove these velcro bits without cracking them. They were riveted and glued!

Need to start removing engine from s4 but am really tight with time right now. And that stops me from sorting out rear suspension on TQS because have not enough space.

Finally had a day off today with nice weather. Started engine removal process from S4.
I'm surprised how everything is rusted on it compared to my A4. Every second bolt snaps.
I thought that removing prop will be difficult, but it wasnt the case. Then I moved on to front driveshafts and got stuck for hours. Bolts completely seized and had to move car up and down to rotate shafts. Then getting both driveshafts out was another story. Finally all out though.
