Ajs Avant

Fired the wheel and a matching RS4 perforated handbrake cover on today, both feel great but flat bottom felt a bit weird to begin with.

Also managed to get a bit done with the boot build. I finally decided on tank location, not the prettiest but it'll never be a show car. It still keeps the majority of the boot usable and It shouldn't be in too much of the way when the seats are folded down plus I still have my spare wheel. Just need to try and locate some similar carpet for when it's eventually boxed in.

Also split the Speedlines and dropped off for a slight colour change.

Steering wheel looks good, was waiting to see it :thumbs up:

I think you've made right decision with position of the tank too. Suprised you haven't thought about covering it in carbon? That would look nice, but thinking about it no one would see it so not worth the effort I suppose.

Just trying to sew the seed ;)

Planted that seed last week and has already started to sprout;-)

Still trying to get as much done with the air ride as possible before I have to take the car off the road to swap the struts etc.

Made a start running the air lines today until the weather stopped play so moved into the garage to finish the tank cover, really pleased with it.

Also got a couple of pics of the Speedlines from my powder coater. I asked for a slightly lighter shade of anthracite than I have on my 9 spokes, looks like he's delivered:)

Air tank was given the carbon treatment today, not my best work but it'll do for you can actually see of it.
Used a carbon cloth with red polyester weave through it, I was thinking of doing my interior trims in it but rethinking that now as it's a total bitch to use.

For me airing the car was all based on practical reasons without loosing any practicality of the car. That's why I thought long and hard about where to site things so I can keep my spare wheel, fit a bike in. As much as I like a lowered car I hate scraping my way up farm tracks when I go MTBing or kayaking. I like my coilovers but assuming the comfort comes from them being quite softly sprung and fixed dampening which is great until you load the car up and you loose some height and clearance. That's the main reason I went for E-level, what ever preset height I choose to drive at it will continually adjust to maintain it no matter how much I carry whilst remaining a decent level of comfort.

Not quite fifty shades of grey but getting there, might need to source more carpet and do the lot so it matches.

Looking good Ajax... been a long time looking through your progress.....

After rocking coilovers for all of 3 months, i too have seen the light...air is on the cards next for me! (although likely next car, not this one!)

Coilovers will always always always be a compromise in terms of ride height. Air makes sense in so many ways :)

Liking the red carbon though mate - nice touch!

Progress at last!!

Finally got the finger out over the last couple of days and got the air in and working manually, if the weathers decent and my knees can take another day of driveway mechanics I'll hopefully crack on with the E-level sensors and get this finished up. Pretty pleased so far, no nasty noises and it works braw, set it at halfway so I just hope it holds air overnight!!

Good work, Sir!

What are the wheels? I'm liking those!

Yes yes yes !!

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Wheels are 20" x 8.5j 9 spokes from an A8

Fitted the E-level sensors today, all went well or at least I thought it did. I'd been dreading doing them as there's no specific instructions for the positioning on an A4 and it's easy to go wrong and destroy the sensor. So after spending all day carefully checking everything cleared and operated well, even the drilling and tapping went to plan I went out and found myself a nice level place to calibrate it. Tried and failed 3 times but it kept showing up as front sensor fault, I was gutted but not because it wasn't working but because it would be a fourth day in a row crawling about on the drive!!!! Anyway trundled home disappointed and worried that I've broken a sensor or two, had my tea and went over the instructions again. Turns out when mounting them I tried to be cute and flip the sensor 180 degrees to save me some space but forgot to re-clock the sensor to the arm so the car thinks it's going up when it's actually going down. Kind of glad it's hopefully going to be quick fix as I'm not sure my knees can take another full day working on the car.

Sorted the sensors out this morning and all calibrated well, set my presets and now a happy chappy:)

Treated it to a wash and started fitting some of the carbon bits

Set at my lowest driving height,

Glad the air is all set up ok now for you, and you've done a stellar job on the he carbon bits mate.

Absolutely fantastic that man, maximum marks for all that work.:icon thumright::cool:
But whats next on the list to do.;)

You must be well chuffed so far, must be one if not the best subtle modded avants around.

Thanks guys!!

I think I'm almost done, looking forward to going back to washing and polishing it instead of tearing it to bits.

Got an interior mod in the pipeline, DTM front still to go on and thinking of selling on the Speedlines for something different but other than that I'm done;-)

It would be a crime to fit a number plate to that.

Looks really good mate.

Wow, thanks guys, certainly makes all the hard work, injuries and stress worth it:thumbs up:

I've got to say a massive thanks to Erik(ESD1711) for all his advice and always answering my many questions, top bloke!!!

Had been trying to sell the 20" Speedlines but sort of rethinking that now,

My safe, normal drive height at which it actually rides excellent, far better than I thought it would!!
