ok guys took my car to a local garage this morn as every now and then i would get smoke coming from engine as it was burning off oil so took it there as prev a garage said that a pipe was old and split so was thinking this had gone :( anyway the other garage has said that the turbo internals had gone as they could move the turbo abit by pushing a pipe ? is this normal ? or are they haveing me on as the car boosts fine no smoke from exhaust or anything if it is the case where would people recommend getting a new turbo unit from ?

cheers guys

The only way i know of testing turbo internals is to physically get hold of the shaft and check for any movement, most 90k + turbo will have a little but nothing to worry about. I would love to know which pipe they are pushing PMSL:lmfao:

It was One at the bottom of the Turbo that is a metal lshape pipe buddy and I did think it was strange

Well just Got bk in and its smoking again :( it coming from below the Turbo somewhere

The turbo has an oil feed to it to lubricate the bearing, this might be leaking & running onto the hot turbo causing smoke! Or oil dripping down from the EGR & burning!

Just been told by a friend to say that when the guy at the garage pushed the oil return pipe under the car the turbo moved like it was on a pivet and moved is this right ? Should it move at all

If the turbo was starved of oil due to a loose feed pipe it could be stuffed.......depends on how long I guess, before damage sets in

Is there a lot of oil splatter in the area and have you checked your engine oil level?

Reading it again, it sounds like the oil return pipe was loose......difficult without seeing it.

I would still check the engin oil level.

chris said last night that the top of the turbo was clean he sent me pics and its spotless but he couldn't get under it to take pics says he was going to try today/tomora :)

Some photos his just sent me

Looks like just an oil leak, that turbo looks very clean for the age, I'd even go as far to say it's not the original but from photos it's very hard to tell, tbh someone needs to look at it that can be trusted, if it's just a loose connection it could take 5 minutes to fix, it also looks like the turbo feed is sealed so I'd be very surprised if it's suffered oil starvation, I'm not familiar with the setup on this turbo so can't help any further.

I can say though if turbo was goosed it'd wistle loudly or you'd have the siren noise of it skimming the compressor housing, or plumes of blue smoke out the exhaust if the seals had gone.

If your that unsure where it's coming from you need some heavy duty degreaser, clean everywhere up, take it for a drive for say 30 minutes then have another look to see where it's started leaking from, this should pinpoint the leak then you can go from there.

Ok well cheers for all your help guys dropped it to a friends Garage and turns out the Turbo is stuffed its Got a crack inlet side and outlet side a knacered houseing That could Not be tightend and the blades had pushed against the houseing and worn but to Top it off One of
