Hi Guys

As the title suggests. It looks as if only one exhaust tip is working on my S3.
It's the OEM exhaust thats on this.

My main question is.
What do you think is causing the problem?
Will it be causing any harm or deduction in performance l how it is currently ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers :thumbs up:

doen't the other tip open on boost? it has a valve.

I know there is an aftermarket exhaust with a vac operated valve to bypass the rear silencer, but i doubt the OEM version has any valve that opens up one tail pipe

To test it at idle, hold a peice of tissue paper infront of the tail pipe. you should see it vibrate.

I have seen this myself on Aftermarket systems.
I have baisically done this test with my hand and im certain theres nothing coming out of one pipe.

Going back to my question. Does anyone think this will cause any harm?

If its the backbox i'm thinking of (1 pipe in, 2 pipes out) and 1 is blocked, then there will be increased back pressure. Likely not enough to cause damage though.

Seen cars with blocked back boxes before. noticeable at tick over, but at 3000rpm all is normal.

The oem system has a valve that opens and closes the other tilpipe when needed.
You can see the pipe and valve if you get down and have a look up by the back of the rear silencer

Same as R32 Golf. On my R32 I put ball bearing in the hose to keep both open all the time. Sound was great.
On my S3 I tried it 2 weeks ago..... tooo much drone ..so I put it back to standard. You can hear it open when you put your foot down.

You can push the valve open with your finger on idle, should open the other tip. I'd suggest doing it on cold start so you don't burn your fingers

The BCS Powervalve is the only aftermarket one that uses a valve. Sounds a million times better than the standard one too.
