Hi guys im looking at getting a new s3 8v in about 5 months time and in the meantime doing my research but I have a few questions for previous 8p s3 owners please?

1. My s3 has its niggles, cheap plastic parts which rattle and creak. How does the s3 compare?
2. Any optional extras you regret not getting?
3. How turbo lag on the new motor? I know the 8p didn't have massive lag but its noticeable unless on stage2+ etc.
4.Is magnetic ride worth it?
5. Has anyone gone from manual to s tronic? I always said I would have a manual until I couldn't but with the way things are going auto looks like the way forward, has anyone done the switch?

thanks for all the input!

When you go and see one you will instantly appreciate the change of interior, you still get some rattles when driving like in the 8P (for example leaving a plastic bottle in the door side).

I found the adaptive cornering lights useless, much better on the 8P, rather have high beam assist.

Like with any turbo you get used to the lag, it's much less noticeable in the 8V but still there, with s-tronic you have to get used to it's behaviour then you will know how to drive it. For example my 8P V6 I could just gently press at a round about and off it goes, in the 8V S tronic you know it's taking up to a second to kick in, nothing of a big issue though.

No!

No! Test drive one :)

thanks for the reply, I have driven a mk2 tt 3.2 v6 s tronic before many times but that was going back a few years (not long after I had a mk5 r32 in manual form) one other question that im curious about is if the s tronic has advanced since then? have you noticed a difference between the box in you 8p and 8v? faster pick up? I see you put it takes up to a second to kick in but does it feel more instant than your 8p?

thanks

The two engines are different one an N/A and one a turbo, this is what I meant, not necessarily because its an s tronic.

If you've had a mk5 r32 you may like to try the Golf R, it's a bit better than the S3 in performance "feel" like the R32 was against the A3 3.2.

Test drive!!!!

Hi guys im looking at getting a new s3 8v in about 5 months time and in the meantime doing my research but I have a few questions for previous 8p s3 owners please?

1. My s3 has its niggles, cheap plastic parts which rattle and creak. How does the s3 compare? All the materials are of high quality and the only rattle I have is coming from the passenger door card I believe and it is easily resolved by Audi
2. Any optional extras you regret not getting? I went for a fairly top spec model and I have everything I would have wanted! I personally see the B&O system, Super Sport seats, interior lighting pack and Parking Plus extras as being essential if you're buying new. No point in buying new and having the bare minimal
3. How turbo lag on the new motor? I know the 8p didn't have massive lag but its noticeable unless on stage2+ etc. A little bit, yes, but it's nothing concerning IMO and nothing a map/box won't sort out
4.Is magnetic ride worth it? Can't comment as I didn't see the need for it so maybe that answers the question for you, lol. Seems to me that people are very 50/50 on the matter and I don't know of many people who chose to spec it
5. Has anyone gone from manual to s tronic? I always said I would have a manual until I couldn't but with the way things are going auto looks like the way forward, has anyone done the switch? Yup, I had a manual Golf GTI and I always said I wouldn't go for a semi-auto box until I drove the Stronic S3... simply put, there's no way I'd go back to a manual now :)

thanks for all the input!

See above - hope that answers everything for you :).

Cheers,

Connor

Thanks for the info I will try and arrange one in the next few weeks and see what they can do.

I owned my 8P for 4 years and recently went to a 8V so see below:

1. Very very good build quality and interior is top notch. Only thing that Keats it down is cheap door cards.
2. Maybe high beam assist.
3. A lot better although still there slightly under certain circumstances.
4. Test drove a TT with it on and it did nothing for me.
5. Went from manual to S-Tronic and OMG love it so much, won't go back now.

Any other questions let me know.

thanks for the great reply! I ordered one yesterday with s-tronic and left out the mag ride. i have a few questions though please
  1. One thing I left auto was auto lights and wipers, with my 8p I have to turn my lights on manually, I assume if I don't order this I will have to do the same?
  2. Did your insurance change at all in price?
  3. what tyres do the new s3's come with continental 5's?
  4. what oil does the s3 8v use, quantum long life 3?

thanks

1. Correct, I never actually touched my lights since I've had The Hulk - very good feature indeed.
2. Not really, sub £100 extra if that
3. Yes and despite reviews I'm quite impressed
4. Castrol I think and type depends on what service plan you choose.

.
4. Any oil that meets VW 504 00 507 00
It doesn't matter what brand it is on the label, as long as it meets that spec.

I switched my insurance from an A3 8P to an S3 8V and my insurance company gave me £35 back. They are not expensive to insure at all (or at least weren't last year).

Thank you very much for the replies guys they are appreciated.
They are trying to make me take a pcp plan which I would only have for 6 months before paying it off and they said I would only have to pay a doc fee of £125 and admin £60 for early settlement. Seems fishy and not signed/seen finance paper work yet. Anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

Document and admin fee are pretty standard.

Is it not just worth waiting 6 months if your going to but it outright anyways?

HP well may be a better option if that is the case.

Remember its not the dealer selling you finance its the finance company; what they say and what you see on paper aint always the same.

The first year has the heaviest interest burden so you would pay some form of interest usually unless theres some special agreement?

Legally speaking, you can take finance out and within 14 days of it starting you can cancel and have 30 days to pay off in full. This is handy if the dealer is giving a good deal only if you take finance, because they won't know you cancelled and paid off.

thanks guys for the advice i've decided to go down the cash route via a loan.
One last question I have is does the s3 have a USB as standard for music? I tried to download the brochure from Audis site but it wont let me scroll and I cant find anything on Audis website configurator?

Thanks

Yes. The AMI system has a AMI connector in the cubby box. You just need to obtain (free) the AMI to USB socket cable from your dealer.

Thanks for the reply ive ordered the sd card sat nav which comes with ami I should have delved deeper sorry. I assume this will come with the socket cable?
