Can't get a quote under £1,400 for love nor money. I'm 25 years young, live in Birmingham B42, drive a modest economical 2001 1.9TDI A4 which had a full 4-5 years no claims until a couple of minor incidents (yet to be resolved in terms of liability).

Called Adrian Flux and they put me on to another company which wanted a ridiculous amount, tried Sky but they didn't want me due to claims, comparing meerkats came in at £1,450, even classic policies with limited mileage came in around £1500 (but not many companies class this age as classic and to be fair it's not).

So I'm stuck off the road until I can get this under £1,400.

Suggestions?

Please don't forget to try our car club insurance scheme at renewal time ;)

Will do tomorrow, cheers.

Still can't believe the prices I've been quoted, I probably look a bit of a liability but can't justify paying more than my first year of insurance 5 years ago.

You've not given much info about recent claims but it does seem steep. My soon to be 20 y/o Son got his renewal through at £ 1900 on a 2004 Mazda MX5, he rang them & changed ( increased ) the excess & removed myself & his Mum as named drivers ( apparently this was costing more even though last year it was cheaper with us on it ? ) this is for TS postcode, parked on road & for commuting ( 12000 miles ) He did look at changing it for a diesel & was quoted £ 750 for a 58 plate 1.9 TDi Astra. Both with 3 years NCD.
Strangely he was also quoted more for 3rd PFT than fully comp ??
Also try picking a different choice for your profession, I don't mean lie but if I put down plumbing & heating engineer it's always more than if I put domestic gas fitter for my van insurance.
It's also worth changing were you park it, my mate always stated his Golf was parked in his locked garage but when they got another car his Golf was left in the road so he told his insurance at renewal & the price was cheaper than the renewal figure they'd sent him when they thought it was parked in his garage, no other details were changed. I'm sure a lot of the time they make it up ?
I do feel for you, I was paying £ 300 - £400 for insurance when I was 18 in 1984/85 & although that was a lot of money to me then I was running a MK2 RS2000 ! young people now are paying the equivalent of that to insure a normal boring family car.
I won't tell you what a now 48 y/o pays on a 2013 A4 Avant Black Edition 177ps or a Lotus Esprit S4s for that matter, all I'll say is my A4, Lotus & van insurance combined come to a damn site less than what you've been quoted for your A4 ;-)
Hope you get it sorted.

Had a guy hit me in 2013 which I was found not at fault for and received full compensation, then a couple hits last year which are unresolved and I didn't claim for but the third party did (one could go either way but the other will more than likely go against me). Despite living in a nice area when looking on a couple databases they class mine with some not so good places which is baffling. Luckily I'm a web developer so I would imagine the risk of my profession is fairly low although as you say I may still try see how this can be worded best. Makes sense that people jiggle it around a bit with things like garages and on the road parking effecting it, with the way it's going I'd be suprised if anyone in my position even has anywhere near a legitimate policy.

Nice cars by the way, bet the Lotus is a blast.

It certainly doesn't help when doing it online & you have to pick an option for your profession from a drop down menu, I am a plumbing & heating engineer by trade but I do very little plumbing now, most of my work is inspecting, servicing & fault finding on gas appliances but nothing really covers it from the list you're given. I just found by changing it to gas fitter it was slightly cheaper. As you've said there are probably millions of people driving around on policies that come claim time will or could cause problems. I'd double check you haven't put 'getaway driver' as your occupation !!

Its still 3 accidents in 2 years,as far as insurance is concerned you're a bad risk.
