Doogies Phantom Black S3.......progress thread.

Yeah, diff is on the cards as well as the rs3/ttrs brake upgrade. Will chip away at it progressively through the summer.

Going to focus on enjoying it. Still got plans for it and theres stil plenty to do to it.

I would do Quaife diff before Haldex, would make more difference to corner exit and all but eliminate power on understeer.. especially with a touch of front camber

Another vote for that.

I've got pretty much all of the suspension and traction mods on mine, and I went for the Haldex controller before the diff became available, and couldn't say it makes a huge difference.

A Quaife diff however really DOES help, but it will fight with the TC if you leave that on.

I've got 2.5degrees negative camber on mine, back and front, which makes it a bit less forgiving at times, but that, plus the diff make traction out of corners way better than before.

Whats your tyre wear like with that camber alex? Mines approx neg 1.7 which is the max you can get with balljoint and no top mounts.

And doogie I have the diff and TTRS brakes going on very shortly I'll let you know how they perform. Interested to see how your car fairs on the rollers after the tune. I was saying to Simon if its a huge area of torque it may convince me to not go big turbo.

It's OK....you can see a difference between inner and outer tread areas, but it's not severe.

How good are ball joints. I've read that the bolts migh give up arround the track. That's the only thing stopping me from buying them. I've walk kit and it adds a bit of camber (0.5 i think) but i would like more.

sorry for OT.

Well i haven't tracked the car (yet) and I haven't heard about the bolt issue. The are essentially the same as the ball joints on the Superpro alloy arms. I drive the car hard on the road, its held its geometry so far. Do you have a source for a failure of these bolts interested to see if there is a solution.

With a 25mm drop WALK and the balljoints camber at the front max's out at about -1.7deg both sides depending on how central your subframe is!

thanks. i've read it on some vw forum. but i think it was due to reusing old bolts (not sure if you get new ones with ball joints), or maybe they weren't tightened as required. i don't doubt their quality. just wanted to hear and opinion from someone who has them. i don't do track driving (i would like to but...), but as you, i like some spiritual driving on country roads.
thanks for input. i might get them in a few months.

They did indeed come with new bolts. :)

Right so.............................. Results..

Car was booked in 9-5 for the custom map for the hardware but I had it back by 12pm..

Heres the before run where it had no Hybrid turbo fitted and was running the stage 2+ APR file.

Made 375 HP and 386 FT LBS... Not a bad figure.

And heres the after with the turbo with no WMI.

Did around 6 runs to log the data... UNMAPPED it made 427 HP and 445 FT LBS on the APR stage 2+ map.

Turns out, the APR map adapted for it and has made figures beyond our expectations.

It ran consistent figures at 27-28 PSI, bang on what it is meant to and accurate A/F ratios too.

So all I got charged was £60 Dyno time instead of the £500 mapping time I was quoted as it simply didn't need mapped.

So if you do go down the TTE-420 route, APR's software by default, makes this turbo run to its full potential..

The car is a total animal now.. Honestly, if you are thinking of getting one..... Do it!! Worth the money by a long way.

Well pleased for you :applaus:top stuff!

You did say it felt comparable to the rs3 yesterday.........

Very very interesting... A very good final figure and surprising the APR map was suitable as well.

Am I right in thinking that you won't gain a great deal from the water meth unless its mapped specifically for it and you advance the timing a touch?

Yeah Simon, think i'll give a few of the other stage 2+ RS3 guys around here a good run for their money...

Absolute beauty of a result... and who would have thought APR software would have supported it eh...

Potentially at some point... think i'm going to play it safe on the WMI side of things and run it unmapped as to aid IAT's and to prevent Carbon build up in the head.

Will also reduce EGT which is a good thing :thumbs up:

Still can't get my head around those figures, pretty good result you must be chuffed! Hows about a cheeky video? ;)

We're happy to see the result! There are a lot of people who think custom remapping is a requirement for every hardware change, but the reality of the situation as I've explained it for years is that our cars are extremely complex. If you map them correctly, they will be able to account for hardware changes to a certain extent and this situation is no exception :)

Happy for you!

Absolutely. chuffed that no mapping was required and the APR map fit the bill perfectly.. Big thumbs up to APR and TTE.

Match made in heaven.

wow...really impressed!!! 420+ bhp and 440+torque without wmi!!!!!
better start saving....

Absolutely, first combo of APR and the TTE-420 if i'm not mistaken. Proven to be quite the perfect match.

I bet everyone who pulled out of the group buy is kicking themselves a little bit now....:keule:

Yeah is first APR combo I know of.

The WMi will be nice to aid cooling summer time, could just run water/screen wash. It's what I'm doing (not mapped in)

Yeah, I have around 40-50 litres pre-mixed Methanol and de-ionised water in a 40% meth 60% water mix..

Going to run that and see how it does.

just one question. how can you run 27-28 psi of boost? i thought that s3 ecu can get up to 21-22 psi without boost controller?
