Adaptive Cruise Fails to Brake to a Stop - Nearly Hits Car!

We'll be seeing driverless cars on the roads soon. HMG seem confident that it all works.

But I'm still wondering about the sense in sending your car off to Tesco on its own? But perhaps the kind folks at Tesco will fill the boot with your shopping and then send it back?

I bet jealous owners will be checking mileage to make sure it's not cheating on you with another owner.
Or meeting up with other autonomous cars in field gateways.

I use ACC every day for 15 or so miles up an A road. It has never failed me once - until today. I had to stand on the brakes so hard as the car in front came to a gradual stop for traffic lights that the ABS came on.

Just a FYI... :)

I wonder if the matt black bangers that drive about cause issues for the radar on the ACC? Seems to work for stealth bombers

They are still metal underneath... doubt paint makes a difference.

I haven't used my ACC yet while I get used to the car, but I'd be using it as I would normal cruise control with me in control and ready to slow down and brake. If the ACC slows down for me it's just an additional safety mechanism. I really wouldn't be relying on it at all.

One of the reasons why I'm not unhappy to not be having that city-safe thing. It's not going to work all the time and it's something I'd be very wary about working consistently.

To add to this one.
Ive never had an issue with ACC slowing me down with cars in front.
Regarding the pre-sense, I had it work twice over the past few days without really trying.
First was when the car in front was turning off. I moved over to the right a little to pass it as it turned off, speed down to around 30mph & it decided I was too close (one car length). It flashed up on the dash & gave a couple of sharp jabs on the brakes.
I'm not sure if it was the ABS kicking in, or it is only meant to "wake me up" with the jabs. Either way, I was already moving over to pass, so not sure if it would have brought me to a complete halt if I'd been going straight on.

Second time was more or less the same thing, but i only got a flash & beep warning.
