I wondered if anybody had moved from an 8P to an 8V S3 and continued their normal driving, to establish whether there was as significant a difference in the fuel consumption between the two models as the paper figures suggest.

Used to average about 28mpg on the 8P.
Now getting 30-31mpg on the 8V. I've done 4000 miles so far and it does seem to be improving very slowly.

EDIT: Should have mentioned 8P was a Manual, 8V is S-Tronic

Had the V6 8P mpg was 23 at best. If I drive carefully with the S3 I see 26-28mpg and 30+ on motorway runs.

When you use it's power though it drains fuel quicker than the V6, not a big surprise mind.

I averaged 27 on my 8P A3 (2.0T), getting 30 average on the S3. Economy on long runs seems even better, could just about crack 30 on the 8P, while I can easily get 35 on the motorway on the S3 and have seen over 40 when stuck in traffic at 50 for an hour.

I find the 8V much improved MPG over the 8P. My drive to work down country lanes - if I drive like a granny 30-40mph I have seen 42mpg - best I ever got in the 8P was about 30ish. Coming home from work I cane it up a bypass - can still get around 29/30 mpg whereas the 8P would be about 25ish. Definately an improvement - plus I hardly bother with the Economy mode - it doesnt seem to make much different on those journeys. Its a manual by the way.

I had 34mpg coming back from my parents tonight, thanks mainly to traffic.

Christ it was boring.

1st drive today in my new S3 from Nottingham back up to Dundee, Scotland. Sitting no less than 70 all the way, except for the damn roadworks, and got 37.9 mpg. 371 miles. Lifetime mpg over 10k miles is sitting at 35 odd. I am v impressed! Love driving again!!! ;')

I think there is actually quite a difference between Stronic and manual cars - just like there was on the Golf GTIs.

Although on paper they are less CO and supposed to be more economical, they just seem to be more thirsty in real life.

When we test drove an S3 (8V) for the first time it was a manual and we pottered about in it around the Lizard in Cornwall, and it did 41mpg!

That's interesting, and good to see that you can still get economy and performance.

I got an average of 26mpg with my old 3.2,and around 28mpg from the 8P when I bought it.

That then went up to 30mpg average after Stg1 and 2 remaps, and now settled again at 28.1mpg overall at Stg4.

If you guys are getting over 30mpg from an unmapped 8V,that's a decent improvement over the older model.
