Probably the first of several posts as I spend a few hours working through the manuals, whilst sitting in the car, setting things up!

I'm trying out voice commands to navigate with.

My android phone is linked to the car and all contacts have been pulled in OK. When I use the voice command to "navigate to" any contact I'm told there is no address linked to that contact.

There is an address in the address field but the system insists I enter the address manually, and even then it does not store it against the contact in a way that suits it.

I thought that commas or enter/new lines might be a problem but however I format the addresses the system displays them but refuses to use them.

Suspect I'm missing something obvious so hoping someone will put me right.

Strangely the only contact the voice system would acknowledge being attached to an address was my sister in the USA, which it suggested a UK address for. Her address had no commas and was on a single line - cracked it, I thought.

Changing one of my UK contact entries to this format still got the voice maintaining there was no linked address but the address on screen, when highlighted, came up with the destination. OK, so better than nothing I thought.
Tried the same on another contact and it will not come up with a destination, even though the address is there in the same format that, sort of, worked with the last one.

Running out of permutations & ideas for something that should be basic to the voice activation system.

Could do with some help here. Am I the only person who thinks the voice recognition system should work?

One clue - obvious when you think of it but not ultimately a credit to Audi:-

Most contact details will have a house number for the road in the address. Only if the Audi Sat Nav has a house number option for the road in your contact (and often is doesn't) will highlighting the address result in a destination being offered up. Means that either you have to remove the house number from your contacts (a pain), or create a house-numberless alternative address for your contact (a pain).

Agree with both posts before, it really does seem totally random to which addresses it does and doesn't recognise.

I've noticed some address just lump you to the town centre or just the wrong place.

All my addresses are sync'd via capsule CRM, then to phone via Google Applications For Work.

Personal ones are on iCloud

When I had my handover from the dealer, she said "that button is four voice commands. It's crap, I wouldn't bother with it if I were you"

So I haven't!!!

I get the town centre thing for addresses where there's a house name instead of a number. It's as if it thinks the house name must be the street name, can't find that street, so goes for the centre of the relevant town.

I've worked around that by adding a second address in my contacts for everyone with a house name, and that second address just has the street name with no house name or number. If I choose that address in the car, it navigates to the street correctly rather than doing the town centre thing.

I think I also found that setting a "local area" in addresses (in between street name and town name) confused it. It's happiest with just house number, street name, town/city name, postcode.

Yep I've found that, annoying that it's not clever enough to reload but I've started adding in 2nd addresses now.

I know it's not perfect - but to save entering 2 addresses....

When it announces that no address can be found, you can just turn the MMI knob to the displayed address, and press to click, and it will start route guidance to the stored/displayed address.

For me, the house name rather than number thing causes it to navigate to the town centre even if I select the address from the MMI. Hence adding a second version of the address.

I do that as well, still gets the format wrong and takes you elsewhere
