What's the crack?

Just been to look at a 2.0 t fsi..... absolutely mint car, but a couple things don't add up......
He has bought the car for his wife. Flown the length of the UK to pick it up,driven it back down and she doesn't like it so after 3 weeks he's selling it. He says he bought it froma garage, and they didn't make him sign the log book, so it is still registered in the previous owners name? ???how has he taxed the car etc. Has he bought it from auction?
Checked myhid and it is insured so that would cut out a traders policy?
Any ideas welcome! !!!????? Don't want to spend 7k on a car that stinks.

Also looking over the engine I focused on the oil pump area,sounds like the chain has a very slight tick. Equal around 4 times a second. Is this standard and just the noise of the chain going round or is this a sign of the dreaded oil pump drive chain tensioner on its way out? Cost of replacement along with pick up pipe roughly? Car is fwd so no sub frame an I right.

If you really want this car, but are concerned about the truth of the seller's story, why not insist on seeing the invoice he received from the garage he bought it from? You can then make your own enquiries from the garage.
 
Actually, if he got it from a garage and has nothing to hide he won't mind passing on their details for you to call them and do a bit of detective work...

I've got the number from said garage and have tried ringing, obviously out of hours so haven't yet explored that avenue.

I know a guy that works with the seller and the story adds up about the wife. (Unless he's telling everyone that)

Car is literally MINT condition all the extras leccy seats heated leather. After a good few months of searching I haven't seen one of this spec. 95k....
So I just can't work it out!

Yeah I will do. Just wondered if it was a textbook situation you guys might have seen before.

What about the tick? Does the chain make a very slight ticking as standard? Get out and open yer bonnets!
 
I doubt you will hear anything from the oil pump

nut the 2.0 tfsi is a diesel like sounding engine how many miles on the car

as for the V5 iv bought from garages before and took the v5 away with me was prob not going through his books etc.
 
Cars done 95k. Ticking coming from oil pump area,possibly injectors? Maybe just worrying too much,just a big spend for me.
That's a good point about the v5. What about the transition between the previous owner and garage? Do you usually hand over log book?

I think when you sell to a trader he gives you the yellow part and keeps V5

ticking could be injectors cam chain noise travels on them but thy really are well known for the ticks and diesel noise
 
and the 2.0Tfsi hasn't got the same oil pump problems as the diesel B7 they have the sludge in the pick up pipe problem sometimes but don't think its anything like the diesel
 
Ok that's promising then.
Have read a lot about oil pump chains going or shafts shearing but if you look for problems you will find them on forums etc.

Perhaps I Need to find a 2.0tfsi to compare.
 
I have two 2.0tfsi a Avant and saloon
Avant has 153k miles saloon with 184k

Both are loud the saloon has got a timing chain tensioner knock apart from that both cars going strong.

I've actually taken a deposit on the Avant will be picked up on Friday.
 
It has or hasn't got a knock? This is more a tick. Coming from top to back of engine. Thanks for the input, glad to see they're going strong
 
Sorry has got a knocking sound. The knocking sound on my car comes from the driver side back and top I also get the chain rattle on start up.
Will be getting this done soon as it cost around £5-600 parts and labour.
They are lovely cars to drive.

Is that by an independent garage? Doesn't seem to bad. Have you had the oil pick up done? How many clutches have been in either?
Just wondering as this one hasn't had anything like that yet.the car looks, and feels in top condition
 
Oil pick up being done this weekend.

I've had the car for 4 years since it had 100k
Same clutch since new

Just recently replaced the diverter valve and serviced it every 6-8k
Also replaced the front and rear disks and pads.
Cam follower done today.

£5-600 for tensioner and chain is from a vw specialist. But I managed to get a FAL chain and tensioner kit for my car for £60 on eBay just need to find a good garage to replace it. If not Craig on this forum is who I'll be calling :)
 
Where is the cam follower? Is just had a cam belt water pump etc would that have been done too? Good clutch then!good to hear of one that is doing so well.
What were the general costs of the preventative works each? Just for a bit of sales leverage? Cheers for your help
 
Cam follower is in the hpfp 30-60min job part cost £35 from dealer.
No it's not part of a cambelt change.

Parts are cheap for Audi a diverter valve I paid £40 or so.
Small easy stuff I do myself just the big jobs I leave to the pros.
 
Offer the guy £6k for the car see what happens you never know its a buyers market as Christmas is around the corner.
 
Spoken to the garage and adds up that the car has had the work he says it has. Also spoken to the trader he bought it off.all adds up apart from the log book.

We've come to a price, I've said that I want the oil pick up doing and that's 150 off. 6850. The lowest he will go is 6700 as he will be 'losing' money. I'd offered 6500. So I'm at 6600 what you think?
Just hpi'd the car properly and all is clear. Chap had offered For me to sign log book and only pay when I get it in my name so all sounds fair. How can he sign it though?
 
You can have mine for 7k. It has less than 2k miles on the new engine, 125k on chassis.

In fact no, I'd want 9k for it with the above price for a 90k rattler.
 
Full top spec mint condition inside and out.i weren't sure it was such a bad price. Searched all the used car sites abs this price seemed in keeping?

Depends how desperate you are for a car. Id wait a few weeks he will drop on price as to be honest these cars don't sell like hot cakes.
 
Why is that? I don't see many of them about when looking. Loads and loads of diesels but not as many petrol.
What do you think price wise then?
I literally is mint condition top spec, all the toys as I say 95k. I've ironed out all the mysteries and matey won't move from 67
 
I've been looking at these cars for the last 3-6 weeks as I was putting Avant up for sale and the same cars on autotrader and ebay are still for sale. Hence why I say there not quick sellers.

There is a special edition on gumtree with 100k for £5200 been advertised for 3weeks now.

26 days it's saying been advertised and it's been reduced to £5k
 
Bose too! Good find, wouldn't mind that for myself if I didn't drive all over the country and had more than a couple quid to my name.
