Finally got around to comparing - iPhone with cable is much better than sd card which itself is a bit better than jukebox. Anyone know why? Sd was copied from iTunes library on pc directly so no compression added? All song originally purchased from iTunes on the iPhone

Yes because the answers were techie babble and didn't answer the question clearly!

To be more specific
I buy tunes on the iPhone
I sync them to my laptop
I copy the tunes from my laptop to an sd card
I copy the sd card to the jukebox
Why is there a loss in quality?

Hope that helps?

Have you checked the individual output settings on the car system itself? (Bass, trebble, etc)
Radio, SD, Bluetooth, AUX I think each has it's own settings?

^ Good point, I wonder if everyone knows treble/bass/sub can be set differently in each of the sources?

Not to hijack the thread, bit does anyone elses stereo mute itself when it hears sirens? Or am i imagining things.

Thanks for the tip on the different sound settings per input.

Is the answer to the difference in the sound quality to do with the quality of the DAC? If you are playing the music from the iphone then perhaps it is using the DAC in the iphone whilst from the jukebox or the SD card it is using the DAC in the car audio. This might be completely wrong if the signal from the iphone is digital (is it?) and I agree it does not account for differences between the SD card and the juke box. I assume the differences are very subtle and audio tests by ear tend to be very subjective (i.e. did you know what you were listening to when you decided one source sounded better than the other or did you do it blind with someone else switching the sources?)
