Had my first real sustained country road blast today in the S4 and I must say it is mighty impressive.

I have only ever had FWD hot hatches so finding the sweet spot for putting the power down is proving quite difficult to master. I did have a sideways moment that required a change of shorts, but the grip astounded me and has left me unsure as to wether I should have applied power earlier.
Does the back end tend to step out under power when chucking it into a corner or will it keep pointing in the same direction?

I do have the ADS and I do realise its kind of a hard question to answer but I thought I'd ask before stuffing my new motor whilst running out of talent.

On another note, I don't think I've ever seen 7th gear yet no matter how easy I drive. I normally cruise in auto

The change made initially in the B7 RS4 to a 60:40 rear torque split instead of the 50:50 is supposed to improve the handling and makes the driving dynamic more like a rear wheel drive car. Turn in should be better with less understeer and the possibility of getting the tail hanging out. So don't drive it like a FWD car and use the power to try and drag the back end round it won't work.
Having decent rubber all around and the same tyres is a good idea.

Really?! My MY2014 heads for 7th as quick as it can! Must be the efficiency targets. In Dynamic it's a different story.

It will go there at about 45+ mph. I've only ever been gunning it or doing 30. All is well....very well. Can't wait for this stage 2!!

In dynamic I've never seen 7th as it holds the gears for longer. It will normally be on motorways I'll see it as I often stick it back into comfort as well
That is so weird. In Auto mine is probably in 7th by 40mph.

I'll check again tomorrow
Wondering if it's a model year difference. Will try and watch on the way to work tomorrow.

I've made this boring haven't I? Tail out action anyone? :)

It won't use 7th in dynamic as it's an overdrive gear for efficiency, max speed it had in 6th. Mine stayed in 6th to 156, then I chickened out.

My car (09 B8) had the updated mechatronics before my ownership and the owner said it changed the efficiency for the better. In manual, it goes into 7th at 42 and drops down to 6th at about 36-34 (depending on road conditions - incline etc). In manual, it goes into 7th at the same time, but drops down to 6th at about 28mph.

Yes, my daily commute is dull, but in my defence, I have one of them 034 transmission mounts and sometimes can't tell it's changed gear!

Tell me more about the mount!!
Mine feels snatchy at low speeds

So in Auto, car changes up to 7th between 45-50mph and then hangs on to it until slightly sub 40mph on the way back down. And I'm not saying anymore about it as everyone feel asleep. :)

So much for keeping it standard.
Ordered forge charge cooler, rs4 grille, wind deflectors, 034 tranny mount and booked in for mrc stage 2.

Ah well...remap gives better fuel economy, and the charge cooler box is "part of the service kit" that I bought cheap..the grille is a little luxury for the new car!!
I managed to get my Mazda to 510bhp on the quiet, she believed I bought new alloys because the tyres were cheaper for those and they would pay for themselves...
I'm a bad man

I tend to bring up these discussions after a nice meal and several bottles of wine.

Meant to say as well as testing 7th I had a swift drive home from work yesterday. As my car's just crossed 1500 miles I've been taking it easy. But yesterday I gave it a few beans and it is good. Grip is impressive.
